I would say the L100 would be more Entwhistle as it has passive EQ, more like a Hiwatt. The B120 would have had active EQ but be potentially louder having 6 EL34s compared to 4 in the L100. IMO, the Sound City active EQ was horrible and impossible to get a good sound with. If I remember correctly, the early Hiwatts that The Who used were modified Sound Citys with only bass, treble and volume controls, no mid control.
thanks! I had similar thoughts, the B120 is valve though right? Its a tough call!
Just to confuse matters, Page seems to have used a pedal steel on the Zep III version of Tangerine. Any differences you know of? Again, predictably, what one is more Entwistle? I also realise his technique got a lot of his tone, but just wondering which ones more suited out of these two
It's a steal. Not perfec', mind, but a steal at £435. Great as a first synth, and great as an addition for the pros. Its competitors are either digital or a lot more expensive, so if its being analogue is important, then it's a steal. It is far from as deep as digital synths in the same price bracket though, so there's a trade-off here. Many people react negatively to the Korg slim keys. A Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard for example spawns a keybed of a different class, whilst Arturia and Novation do not. Unlike some other offerings on the marked, all four voices always have two oscillators available and all four voices have their own filter (the last part is a drawback for certain sounds, but generally a lot more lauded than criticised). It has the right amount of knobs and switches (29 and 14 IMS) to serve as a good introduction to subtractive synthesis, and also has some goodies under the hood that go beyond the first visual impression, as well as beyond bog standard subtractive synthesis. It has a sequencer built in.
More excellent info! I've been playing around with some synths today, the korg arp odyssey and the moog sub phatty, both interesting! I'm a long way off from creating Dark Side of the Moon but they were good fun! I'm gonns delay my decision for a while and focus on bass and guitar for now -

thank you all!!! Some great feedback. I tried the KARP and it was good fun, I think it would serve my needs. I will check out the others too! I do like a foldable suitcase type synth!

Here we are, i quickly took some pics on my phone. My shoddy photography skills don't do this bass justice! I sold a ricky and got this in cheaper, best bit of business this January window Big thanks to Alan for his patience, craftsmanship and dedication to making this, and for being a top bloke to real with! Also thanks to Mick for steering me in Alans direction and to those who commented on my ACG thread when I was still deliberating it. I'll stop the Oscara speech now!

hahaha, uploading in a bit!
A few months ago I downloaded a VST Odyssey emulator for free and it's pretty darned good. If you're making demos, that should do the job and it works fine in Reaper Edit : Here - http://www.synthscho...-ins/index.html
thanks!!! What application do I run this with? It says it might damage my computer
In my experience 90% of stuff for sale on Craigslist is a scam, and the 10% of genuine stuff is being sold by crazy bastards you don't want to get involved with.
Yep agreed! Ahh feels like an enternity since I made that last comment, I've now found out legit deals on: A minimoog voyager old school An EML 101 maplin ETI 4600 (has matrix patches like an EMS VCS3)

cheers guys! Researching into it a bit more, seems interesting! Any of you ever bought off craigslist? I've found some minimoogs and am a bit weary
That desktop one's called just "Waldorf". The one with keyboard is called "Waldorf Keyboard". IMS, both can be had in black as well. The Keyboard not only has keys, but also comes with readily usable wavetables and samples. If one wants those on the desktop, one has to lock them up (they are pre-installed, but locked), and a license for that costs roughly 100 Euros or so. Mind you, I only mentioned it as a very deep and very flexible synth. Its few knobs belie its capacities as well as its ease of use. But it is unashamedly digital and is not the first synth I'd think of as a 1:1 Odyssey replacement. It can be used as a virtual analogue synth, but many more dedicated VAs exist, like the Akai Miniak that was discussed earlier. Yes, here on BC. Some like VA, others hate it. I like it, and I particularly like the Miniak for its sound and depth. Hate the tiny display though. Yeah, I've seen the slating in the "Korg announce Odyssey"-thread on GS. Also there it was immediately picked up that the slating came from people who saw the value of their own Odysseys drop. No serious review of the KARP has not lauded it. Tiny differences with the original exist, especially in filter details, but then each and every Odyssey built back then sounded differently at any rate, amongst other things because of component tolerances in those days (and ARP also made a mess in their factory). Also, an old Odyssey will sound different now than it did when it was new, and after an expensive service it will sound different again. The only serious criticism against the KARP that I have seen is against its form factor with slimline keys, and its mediocre keybed. Personally, I expect to use an external keyboard for it. Not sure yet.
Thanks again!! Yeah i wasn't too keen om the minikeys, didn't think to plug in an external keypad, good thinking
Yup. That was their bread and butter machine. Very easy to learn on, but I personally didn't like it. Since the Teiscos/Kawais have been mentioned already, I liked their Synthesizer-100F a lot better than the Axxe, but then that one, also with one oscillator only, did have the routing switches that made it good for weird noises. Also its core sound to me was nicer, but that is taste. Personally, I'd rather have an Odyssey at £1,300 than an Axxe at £650. Then again, personally I'd rather have a KARP for that Axxe price than an old Odyssey for that same price. YMMV.
I thought the axxe would have been better! Goes to show what i know

https://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun08/articles/waldorfblofeld.htm This is the waldorf right? Does it coem with a keyboard? Looks nice! Ok thanks! I'm getting mixed reviewd eith the karp, some say yes, others slate it (i notice its vintage arp owners who slate it)
If you want a self-contained unit that will sequence filter and VCA process any instrument you feed through it, then IMO you can't go far wrong with a Linn Adrenalinn.
