1. I know, hence why they're so expensive, just seeing what decent pickups are out there
2. Thanks! How much is his service?
3. Anything from the quadrophenia album!
4. Anybody got any pickups they recommend that are a cheaper version of an Alembics? Might install them on my old squire and rejuvenate the bass
5.
What if you don't manage to sell many tickets? You could end up having to let the bass go for a lot less than you want to.
Suppose you could register demand first until you then decide to raffle? Tbh i just saw this done with a charity the other day
6.
Isn't that what this is leading up to? Why would you bother otherwise??
I suggested it more of an idea to help other people struggling to sell
7.

you expecting me to produce a £1,000 bass for sale?
8.
I think you'd need a licence http://www.gamblingc...-a-licence.aspx EDIT: Several by the looks of it.
ahhh completely forgot about those
9. some top responses, quite a range!!! Always interesting to hear. I think I am gonna try and keep mine as minimal a possible, will try and keep a max of 2 basses
10. Just an idea that came into my head - for those of you who are having a hard time selling a bass, why not start a raffle? eg. bass is up for £1,000 sell 50 tickets for £20 each that way you get yer cash, and someone gets a great bass for only £20 there would be difficulties with trusting the owner, and how it would be monitored, and even if people want to stmp up £20 for a 1/50 chance of winning etc. but I'm sure someone respected on here could do it
11. some excellent replies! How quickly do your guitars wear from gigs?
12. if I don't have exams I will!
13. This thought came into my head, for those of you who gig, how many basses do you own? I suspect its more than one, do you have certain basses than you gig and others you don't? Any other reasons why you have more than one bass? This isn't a critique at those who do, in fact its quite the opposite! Would love to hear your thoughts on how you guys utilise multiple basses
14. yeah he seems a top bloke!! cheers for the feedback guys!
15.
I've got to agree with that. To my ear, the isolated Real Me is nearer to Casady but still not like Casady's rounded and warm but overdriven tone. Won't Get Fooled and Baba O'Riley are really very different. As I say, to my ear. Anyway, I recognize there's a subjective element in this and I admit I've been a Casady fan for nearly fifty years but never had much interest in Entwistle.
yeah agreed tbf, I had the Real Me in mind when comparing to Casady's not WGFA and Baba O'Riley
16.
I think it's a combination of things including the flatwounds and the overdriven Versatone but also including the Bisonic pickups. What strikes me about the tone is it has a lot of warmth which, to me, makes it quite unlike John Entwistle's tone, especially his later tone.
Interesting. It is warm but the low end still sounds like Johns, especially in The Real Me and Going Mobile isolated bass tracks which you can find on youtube. I would paste them but i can't copy using the mobile version
17. what do the Alembic electronics contribute to here? In simple terms
18.
Yes, indeed. I've owned an Alembic, as I'm sure you probably have if you're name is anything to go by and I think your right regarding the tone factor.
unfortunately I am just a big fan of The Ox, never owned an Alembic! Although there is a 1996 up for sale for £1,400 if anyone is interested what I do slightly have in common with John is that he had sell off a substantial amount of gear just to keep his multi million pound Quarwood mansion afloat for another year, I have to sell my stuff too, albeit to afford my £60 per week student accommodation
19. what would a mod like that cost on a starfire nowadays?
20.
It immediately reminded me of John Entwistle. Whether it's the Alembic in it or the playing style or a bit of both. I can't decide.
that's exactly what I thought - dead ringer for those isolated bass videos of him of Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. That's why I thought it was the Alembic part that caused the tone
21. You tried all the Facebook groups for selling gear Mick? Admittedly the average price of basses advertised on various Facebook pages are lower than on basschat, but you never know!
22. how is he getting this tone? Or is can this be summed up by the 'Alembic' part of the Guild? What makes Alembivs get this tone?
23. Excellent work, love guilds. Wonder what his workshops at the fur peace ranch are like
24. Ah i see, ok thanks! I'll pass for now but GLWTS!
