1.
With you all the way there. JE's voice on The Quiet One is, in my opinion, good enough to front just about any rock band you'd care to mention and PT's vocal on I'm One is really pure and haunting. For a group effort the performance on the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a pretty good example too. yeah thats a great performance! I really like John's vocals on Whiskey Man, I think its his best! He had to double track the vocals as he couldn't say his R's so said each word with an L and then with a W - so he recorded the word friend by recording fwend and flend together!

Daltrey had the best voice, but I think that the famous Beatle harmonies are just so recognisable and evocative of an era that it's impossible to ignore their quality and strength. I find McCartney and Lennons voices quite bland individually though. agreed on The Beatle's harmonies being the most recognizable - when you think of mid 60s bands in a suit, they almost all tried to copy The Beatle's singing

Two completely different types of bands.I'm a big fan of both. Blue yep, both so different, both so great!

I think John Lennon's vocals are excellent and we'll rounded, but for me, roger dawltry's raw power still hits me like a hammer.
I agree here - Roger wins it for me, but I do like John's singing - he harmonizes really well on Dandelion by The Rolling Stones - well worth checking out!
2. interesting! The Beatles were certainly world class harmonizers, and they have great voices on their own, but I think The Who have better voices and harmonize just as well in my opinion. Townshend for me has a serially underrated voice, as does John Entwistle, who has the best vocal range out of the whole band. Listen to his falsetto when they play See Me, Feel Me at Woodstock, then compare that two My Wife from Who's Next merely two years later. I even like Roger's vocals pre-Tommy even before he developed that trademark roar, but obviously Roger's voice Tommy and onwards is his best
3. excuse the unintended yet dreadful pun - who do you guys prefer and why? I personally prefer The Who. Not because I'm a massive Who fan, but I feel their voices can stand on their own better and they have more vocal range across the band - including Keith
4. haha I never meant for my Macca thread to go like that, got some great responses on it though! Could he actually play any bass? Or did someone really play all of the bass behind him?
5.
With all due respect I have to disagree with this. You've got the P bass - leave the tone wide open, without a doubt. You'll need the full beast coming through. It's a bit tricky to question the EQ setting without knowing what you are referring to - possibly the VT bass? I would start by saying the VT bass isn't going to get that Leeds sound - it will give you a nice aggressive valve sound but the Ampeg tone is very different to the Hiwatt tone. I'm going to sound like a broken record here but the Tech 21 Leeds is what you need. Use it as a preamp rather than a standard stomp box and with a P bass the tone is there. Don't take too much notice of the demos on Youtube as they go completely over the top - even the official Tech 21 demo. I have this pedal and use it all the time, and know from experience that with a P bass the sound is there. Of course a proper Slab would give you that extra push on top but it's certainly not vital. Definitley don't abandon the low end though!
agreed, the tech 21 Leeds is brilliant! I can even use an old 2nd hand Fender Squire and it sounds decent on it
6.
Yes continue. Pastorius is over the heads of most of us. We all get McCartney, well, except for the OP. Blue

Not trolling at all. If the OPs comments are for real, I really think he would be better off taking up a different musical instrument. It's only a suggestion something to consider. Blue

This is a special case for the OP only. Blue

That would work for most bass players. However, the OP states he doesn't feel anything when he listens to McCartney 's bass playing. And remember, the OP doesn't recognize McCartney as a bass player. Blue
just to remind you Blue, I am the OP, and have never said any of those things, I am a fan of Macca. Please check back to who you are referring to
7.
See, now, these are two of the most over-hyped guys around.. but hey, just my opinion. I would say, ...I can't stand either, but that is over stressing the fact that I don't care that much. Same as Geddy Lee, ..if people like them they like them, but it is not a crime to say you don't. Like many many bass players, you might give them a nod but none of them really touched me at all, tbh. Yep, who cares..!!
fair enough, all opinions at the end of the day
8. Some interesting comments on here! After studying his bass lines and technique a lot more these past few days i tend to agree with what people say on here, especially choice of notes and knowing when to reign it in etc. Very melodic, i can now say that confidently without just chucking in that buzzword thats often associated with his bass playing As a die hard Entwistle fan (hence the name) i must say Pauls playing has taught me a great deal of stuff, in fact I've made one of my best basslines so far from studying him (i am no serial player by any means)
9. thanks! I might change the bridge pickup to either a high gain or toaster pickup to get a more vintage tone and might change the HB1 Humbucker to single coil - or should I leave that part alone?
10. think I'll tag along cheers! Another stupid question, do people usually bring their own basses?
11. forgive my ignorance, but what usually goes on at these shows? Is it just walking round different stalls, seeing exhibitions going on etc? Sounds good!
12. excellent feedback guys, he is a maestro! Tasteful is how I'd describe him, every note seems to fit. Entwistle, Macca and Jack Casady are my favourites atm
13. What do you guys think he does well?
14. cool thanks mate!
15. haha fair enough! Ricks do look fantastic! any other pros the Cheyenne has over the Laredo and the 4003?
16. that cheyenne looks tasty!
17. Thanks Ben you've answered my real question without me actually posting it! Kudos. I am much more of a trebly player and I had a hunch the humbuckers would produce a darker sound. I'd probably prefer the single coils too, I'm just curious why the cheyenne is more! Would you have to use Rick pots or can you use any pots? I can imagine rick charging a fortune for parts
18. I think he did yeah! just explained in my other thread I was in the middle of rehearsals so couldnt get it, but there was literally last minute drama on that faker, two bids within the last 40 seconds, one coming 3 seconds before the auction ended
19. yeah I kinda agree with you! In terms of how they sound, would the 4004s be a lot warmer, compared to a more rock n roll 4003? yep gotta love a top notch Faker! I saw a great on on eBay the other day for sale at £250, it was due to expire at 9pm last night, I was in the middle of rehearsals so couldn't bid. But one guy bit at 8.59.27 £342 and then someone bid at 8:59:57 £354, was incredible stuff!
20. hi guys Sorry I keep yapping on about Ricks (if we're not even allowed to do that you can delete this thread haha) but what do you guys prefer out of the two? Taran
21. Same here, don't think my wallet does though! Hahaah You know much about the cheyenne?
22. also, any of you guys got any thoughts on the Cheyenne series? Are they superior to the 4000 series?
23. was great meeting you too I hope you enjoy it! Maybe you'll convert to actives let me know how you get on! cheers Taran
24. thanks! Sounds like its worth a punt, glad you mentioned the vintage push-pull option, as thats what I liked best about the Ricks whats the main differences between a 4001 and a 4003?
25. Thanks again! My main concern is whether I'll be able to get the range of tone that a real rick gets. Will it in essence be able to produce the same sounds? Also what does the single truss rod mean compared to the dual truss rod? Thanks!
