JohnDaBass replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
Neither do I have time to print off a cool badge but it's not a problem as I am easily recognised I'll be the fat old guy with glasses, receding grey hair and a funny beard . Oops, just a thought there be be a few of us🙄 -

I plan to bring along my BC110 MiniMax combo and my house jam 1x6 BAM200 micro combo. Both available for the cab shootouts and measurement. -
Mike kindly sold me a pair of EV SX300 PA speakers, the communication was first class. Mike made a huge effort to source the best courier and provided detailed quotes from each shipper. The whole transaction was fantastic , Mike is a real gent to do business with. Thank you Mike

If you are going to the SW Bassbash I'm planning to bring my Fender IMP micro combo clone so you may wish to hear the BAM 200 to compare before you buy?

Was it any good?

Compact mixing desks - what are you using?
JohnDaBass replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
+1 for the Behringer XR12/18. Our XR12 is more than enough for our needs, good preamps and as said a very versatile mixer. I use an old Samsung 9ins Tablet for chord charts and mixing on the fly, it's very easy to toggle between each App. I still use the onboard router without any of the problems that others have experineced. But many have upgraded to outboard routers. -
Now if these had been short scale 30ins I would probably be interested in the black with tort pick guard.
-
*what pickup is on the Squier? Have you done a thread on the mods?

Fender reportedly lays off hundreds of California employees
JohnDaBass replied to MungoBass's topic in General Discussion
Totally agree. The value is in the brand and OEM & ODM Fender branded products will generate a sizable income for very low investments.!( sticking Fender badges on other people's products) Competition has caught up and in many cases surpassed that which were "Fender". Diversifying and exploiting the brand appears to be the way forward for Fender. As @karlfer suggests US components shipped over the border to Mexico for assembly then the completed instruments sold in the USA. Just like Levis jeans "assembled in Mexico from US materials ". By shipping the components (trees 🤣) to bonded facilities in Mexico means that Fender only pays import tax on the labour cost of the Mexican workforce. -
Zoom Fanboi declaration of interest. I found that the MS 60-B had a great small footprint and great sounds and effects but, it was just too fiddly to use live. Yes you can step through 4 presets but just not easy to make changes on the fly. The B1Four is so much more user friendly. It's a little wider and not in a metal alloy case but it is robust enough for gigging. I have two B1Fours and a B6.

NND- New Neck Day for by Custom P Bass Body
JohnDaBass replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
That is absolutely gorgeous. Fate is a wonderful thing, really pleased that the failure to sell the body resulted in such a fantastic outcome. You WILL fall in love with that very special J . Enjoy -
Looks a great solution. What strap are you using looks really comfortable.

Started as an errand boy at a local grocer shop when I started Grammar school, tasks included carrying 56lbs bags of potatoes from the outside store area to the front of the shop. (Aged 12yrs) Today some Wokey busybody would probably claim it was child exploitation .

I am really pleased with my 2 Super Compacts which I have owned for a number of years. At a smallish gig 2 years ago one of the SCs just went silent. I was using just the one SC with a Fender Rumble 500 head and just at the end of the first 45min set the cab just stopped working. Emailed BF the following morning and a new driver arrived the following day. Swapped the driver and hey presto all good again. Great after sales support and customer service. I owned a One10 which was great for home use but after building a 10ins combo using one of @stevie and @Phil Starr cab designs I moved the One10 on as the combo cab just sounded better to my 70 year old ears ears. Two SCs with a Mesa D800 head is just sublime.

Isn't Pino from Pontypridd? Just 15 mins from Caaardiff

I have a 90's MIA Fender Jazz Deluxe with Lace Sensor Pups and Kubicki active pre. The Pups were very quiet (noiseless) had a very clean tonal response but had very low gain. The Kubicki pre had a passive mode which demonstrated the need for the active pre power boost. I replaced the Lacs Pups and preamp with DiMarzio Pups and @KiOgonloom, which had V T & 4 position switch offering neck,or bridge solo and both in series or parallel. I'm a fan of DiMarzio Split P Pups, very versatile tonal range with lots of power.

This old Selmer is the most badass bass amp
JohnDaBass replied to GrowlyBassDude's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had a Selmer T&B 50 mk3 bought on HP from Bells catalogue. Initially used with a DIY 1x12 Goodmans cab then with a Selmer Goliath 1x18 100w cab, absolutely fantastic tone with a Hagstrong Futurama bass. Most bassists moved up to the Selmer PA 100 when they needed more power. There was something special about the frequency ranges chosen for the pre on the PA 100, somehow a very full and rounded tone . Fantastic amps and very versatile, congratulations on finding and refurbishing the PA 100, I've still got a Selmer T&B 50 mk2 in the basement pacticently waiting for me to rebuild it. Enjoy your PA100. -
I found that a single 10cm port worked best for me. Single hole to cut, easier to position on the the baffle and lots of vendor options.

I should have gone to SpecSavers 🤣🤣🤣

That looks fantastic, great amp with the addition of nearly ALL Ashdown cabs. I bet it would mate very nicely to a clean cab such as a Barefaced Super Compact. Please could someone enlighten me with regards to the 30w output from 4 x EL34? Back in the day Marshall, HiWatt, Selmer, Sound City, all produced 100w from 4 x EL34. Is it just the spec of the mains and output transformers that dictated the output power?

Great looking cab, well done @Pea Turgh. Did you use the same Fane speaker that @Phil Starr used?

Would my house jam micro combo qualify? It has a Faital rs140 6ins and has separate input.
