  1. Lovely bass, Great colour. Yes it is the early 9v Kubicki preamp, I've got the same bass in a natural Ash body with rosewood neck. Very versatile bass, wide range of tones and with the advantage of an active/passive switch if the battery ever dies on you. GLWTS
  2. As I live in sunny West Wales I'm sure a quick 40 mile drag down the M4 junction 49 thro 30 will create a much more aggessive ( rocklike) Road Worn finish. Welsh TARMAC adds so much more vibe! It's the coal dust effect. GLWTS
  3. These are very versatile basses. I have a maple neck American Deluxe P bass and the range of tones on tap are enormous. No issues with battery life as it uses the 9v preamp. GLWTS
  4. Hi Mike I'm really pleased that you discovered the same gratification I enjoyed pairing my Mesa Subway D800 with the Barefaced Super Compact. I tend to cut the high Mids at 11:00 and add some Bass at 1:00 or 2:00. I use one SC for pubs and two SCs for bigger gigs. Absolute massive sound with huge flexibility with the voicing control knob anywhere from 8:00 to 3:00. Enjoy!
  5. Wow, that sounds bad. Business must be tough if they are closing manufacturing plants. Perhaps they see the future as simply 'branding' products shipped from lower cost manufacturing centres. Really sad if we lose the Gibson brand and heritage :-(
  6. Hi All, Saw on Facebook this morning something about Gibson USA in financial trouble. Has anybody got any REAL information?
  7. Great amp, very flexible, provides a huge range of sounds. Great price consideing that current imported price. GLWTS
  8. +1 for the Barefaced Super Compact 1x12 great cab and will produce any sound you want, very neutral. I use a Mesa Subway D800 as my main amp but before acquiring the Mesa I used a Fender Rumble 500 head, both good amps but the Mesa D800 has real H**t ( oops). Two Super Compacts sound HUGE.
  9. Hi Tom, It would be great if you did a 'Build thread' Really interested in the source of necks. Great looking basses. Well done!
  10. Stewmac .com sell pre cut wooden neck shims at a range of angles from 0.5 to 2.0 degrees. Here http://www.stewmac.com/SiteSearch/?search=neck shims for bass&facet=%7cBRAND%3aSTEWMAC
  11. That looks absolutely handsome! Mean, loud, gutsy, and oodles of heft! Well that's how it looks! Hope it sounds like that. ENJOY
  12. I would what the monitor mix is like!
  13. There is a very wide range of tones on offer with the D800/Super Compact setup. The gain allows you the freedom to have a very clean sound right thro to warm distortion. The voice control varies the type of amp sounds available coupled with the built-in HPF you can achieve your own tailored sweetspot.
  14. +1 for Mesa Subway D800 into a Barefaced Super Compact 3 gen. Huge sound with marvellous range of tones.
  15. But I bet your 're Hot on the ole 12 bar blues thingy!
  16. +1 Mesa Subway D800 into one or two Super Compacts produces a huge sound with a variety of tones that should satisfy most bassists playing a wide range of rock, blues, pop, funk or jazz. Absolutely a lovely combination!!!
  17. Hi Andy, For PUPs think about DiMazio Split P and a KiOgon loom with old stock Spragg cap. Really great range of tones with warm, lush lows. The DiMarzio Jazz PUP is really well matched as it is a split coil and removes some of the output loss associated with single coil Jazz PUPs in P/J configurations . Great project the bass looks handsome, Well Done!
  18. Hi Dood, What about the Behringer XR12? Great flexibility and all controlled from your IPad or Android tablet. If you want to go the extra mile then the Midas MR12 adds better preamps and full 12 channel USB out to your DAW software. Just saying!
  19. Just checked the weight and it is 2.6 Kgs. Thanks for looking.
  20. It doesn't look like ply to me. Tom 1946 can you help? I'll get it weighed tomorrow and post the details.
  21. +1 for the Mesa Subway D800. Lots of clean power and a huge variety of tones on tap with the character/ voice control. Also runs at 2 Ohms and has a very flexible DI output for FOH.
