Hello from a Converted Guitarist... Please Be Gentle!
Rikki_Sixx replied to iain_psb's topic in Introductions
Welcome Iain! The Green Day tribute sounds awesome, Mike Dirnt is one of my biggest bass influences and one of the reasons I went for four fat strings instead of 6 skinny ones! Hope you're enjoying the forum. -
Not heard of these but love that shade of blue with the maple board. Matching headstock too, very nice!

I've always liked Schecter, though I don't know much about them (history, where they're built, etc). My mate has a Schecter guitar of some sort and the fit and finish is superb. Don't know anything about the electronics, tuner quality, etc but it sounded fantastic, was really playable and incredible value for money (I think it was around the £500 mark). Pretty versatile too, he uses it for everything from metal, rock and blues to pop and funk. I think I've played one of their basses in PMT and it was lovely, really well put together. I'd gone in specifically for a particular Jazz though, which is what I walked out with! I bet if you spoke to someone at a place like PMT or Dawsons then they'd bring one in from one of their other stores for you, if they have one.
I don't think Mrs Andyjr will be happy if you take a guitar shaped chunk out of her dining room table.....
Maybe Andy could do a very limited run of basses called 'The Missus', made from her table. Limited because she might get hold of Andy before he runs out of timber!

Gorgeous bass but not a fan of that green. As it's already had a refinish another one won't hurt so if you're already thinking about it I'd go for it! What original colour are you leaning toward? No point doing the sunburst for the sake of it unless it's your top choice. I'd ask about light relicing to get it "back up to speed", just to a similar state it's in now!

This looks great, nice to see an old Schecter getting some love! That body looks extra-offset, is it slightly more pronounced than a Fender-style J? Love the colour, I'd never have thought to put it with gold but it looks awesome!

A guitarist is auditioned and can't take a "no thanks"
Rikki_Sixx replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Met a guitarist years ago while forming a band with some friends. The guy was really talented and worked as a session-musician by day and even had similar taste to us. We were just a bunch of student dorks who wanted to have a bit of fun covering some of our favourite songs. We made it clear we just wanted to play together, not perform for anyone - guitarist was cool with this. Once we got into a rehearsal room, guitarist starts going on about potential gigs, acting like a big-shot and doing the whole rock star act. He would play over us while we tried to talk and work things out. All of this on our very first meeting with him. We headed to the nearest pub afterward - a rubbish Wetherspoons - where he starts offering cocaine around and proceeded to get incredibly drunk. So drunk that he didn't understand when we told him he wouldn't be a good fit. He continued to hound us for weeks for another shot, but we never saw him again thankfully. -
Is there a similar site where you can actually meet good musicians?
Given your username, I'd join your band I take it you're a fan of Gaslight Anthem? Good luck finding / forming something, I know from experience it can be tough to find folks with similar tastes and goals! Too many twerps out there thinking they're the next big thing.
£4.4K delivered.
Holy crap, I didn't check the price when I first saw these. They're pretty cool but definitely not £4,000 cool! If they knocked a zero off maybe!

Was just reading about this on No Treble, it looks great. Getting rid of some of the drawbacks of a "proper" Thunderbird should make the Lowlander a real winner!

Opinions please : Inlays for 2018 CHB-1 Basses
Rikki_Sixx replied to Chownybass's topic in Bass Guitars
I do tend to gravitate to block inlays but the shape of the CHB-1 really suits crown! -
That's a great find for £50, Pacificas seem great! Is it a 112? I picked up an 012 from eBay a few months ago and it's fantastic. I prefer it to my old Epi SG Special I used to own (like comparing apples and oranges, admittedly) and a friend who played it became an instant convert.

These look lovely, especially your black one. I love a Jazz and these have enough little tweaks and differences to seem like altogether different instruments. The necks look great on both, will have to keep an eye on these guys!
Yellow for me. Not sure about the tort pick guard with either though...
Exactly what I was thinking too. The yellow would be cool, but if I had either of those colours I'd go for a lighter pickguard. Let us know what specs you go with - and colour!

Electro-Harmonix Bass Clone Chorus pedal - Opinions?
Rikki_Sixx replied to Osiris's topic in Effects
Never used a Bass Clone but I picked up a used EHX Small Clone for about £20 on eBay. It's absolutely brilliant, I use it for everything from The Cure to Guns n' Roses. Plus you could drive a tank over it and it'll (probably) still work! -
That's one helluva bass. I've never played a Yamaha bass (I do have a Pacifica guitar - great quality!) but I've always thought they look awesome. There's something about the look of those pick-ups that always makes me want one!

I think I finally understand Radiohead
Rikki_Sixx replied to BassAgent's topic in General Discussion
I used to hate Radiohead. I remember buying OK Computer and the Verve's Urban Hymns on the same day and the whole lot sounded so depressing. I ended up putting both CD's away for a long time (the Verve ended up going to a charity shop, awful band). Years later the design agency I'd started working in played a lot of Radiohead. I was forever going "who's this? It's great. Oh, it's Radiohead, really?!". This was shortly after Kid A. I became a huge fan, and wanted to see them for sooo long. I finally got to see them on Tuesday in Manchester and was blown away. Every member of the band is so talented, and the bass sounded fantastic all night. Very inspiring to see. From hater to huge fan, I'll admit I was wrong back in the beginning! -
Still crazy how positive feedback is on even the absolute cheapest HBs! If I'm ever in the market for something in that price range I'd absolutely go for one. These both look great!
-
I had no idea Chowny made pedals! This is going to lead to a morning spent Googling their gear again, nice one guys!
-
Really love this! As much as Rickebacker have their "look", it's great that they're looking to mix things up a bit. The matte black hardware looks really modern and very cool. Not to everyone's taste but good to see new things coming out of there
-
Very nice! I love PRS guitars but haven't paid much attention to their bass range - clearly I'm a fool! Great colour combo, and those pickups look interesting.

I spotted this on Facebook last night, PMT Car Boot sales their Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham stores: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/blog/2017/04/27/car-boot-sale-2017/ It's something they've done before but I haven't heard much about them. Has anyone been before? Good deals had? I'll be popping to the Leeds one in the hopes of getting a cheapo Strat to learn on or something.

£12 inc. UK postage, same as I paid when I bought it from this very board. I'm selling an gorgeous red/yellow tortoiseshell pickguard, as I foolishly bought it without checking it would fit my own bass! It is 3-ply (black / white / tort) with lovely yellow-ish splashes in there. Unused, still with the original packaging and with the clear film still on the top. The packaging says this is a Squire Jazz pickguard but it should fit most 10-hole Jazz basses - it will not fit a VM Jazz without leaving a small gap near the control plate. Tried to show both the depth of colour and shape of the pickguard - particularly around the control plate - so no one makes the same mistake I did. Happy to take more photos if needed.
