Have had a few instances, firstly a long time ago I was in The Guitar Workshop shop in St Michaels hill Bristol(sadly long gone). Was trying out a bass they had for sale, just doodling away in the corner when some bloke starting trying to join in – totally put me off and decided to stop. Wandered around and as I was about to leave the shop owner said ‘you do realise who that was? ’ turns out it was Mark Knopfler. Doh !

Initially I thought it was a joke, but this really exists
There's quite a lot of single string basses about. I used to own this Atlansia Solitaire: And there's at least one other Basschat member with a one string bass.
I think you will find you were playing a harpoon gun -
Black. No question
Oh for a maple neck, that looks perfect, nicely aged etc

Have to admit I do like the simplicity of black on black, and can see it works well with rosewood now

Black pearloid is a new one on me, also had not thought of matching the freatboard.... lots to ponder on :-)
Simplicity
With you on that one, still looking for one like this to match my ability
Also the nice Sterling SUB Ray I got recently.
Played one a bit like that in PMT Cardiff last Saturday, actually went to try a Rickenbacker as amazingly I had never played one. Actually disliked it (the Ric that was) ned was just weird and it all felt a bit cheap (which it was far from), so bloke handed me the Musicman, identical looking to yours. Was really impressed, I would go as far as to say it played as well as my Alembic and tonal range was amazing. On the down side pretty sure the pickguard wont fit a Precision :-)

Did wonder about tortoiseshel myself but ........think I will go with black. Will take some photos when it arrives

Wow, not seen the helium version before :-) Seriously, that does look great, but cant help wondering if its also because of that lovely maple neck?

Have an American Precision Bass in black (rosewood neck) at the moment it has the original white pick-guard fitted, have never been sure about it and am thinking of changing it for a black three ply one. I know Fender did / does that Roger Waters Mexican made version, though that also got black hardware and a maple neck but i have no intention in changing anything else, in fact pretty sure RW's bass was not totally black ! Any thought welcome

Just saw ColinB avatar and thought it was me for a second - anyhow, hello from Chepstow-ish

I really like the effort that has gone into matching the rear covers

DIP wrap - Ghost_Bass I honestly think wallpaper would be preferable (and that was a joke) - but thanks for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated

Quick update, spoke to Dave Dearnaley, he could not have been more helpful, but he only works in Nitro so while his estimate was reasonable (very in fact) he wanted the bass for 8 weeks at least, so for now that not viable, may simply sell it and buy one in a colour i actually want. But Dave would be my first choice based on his thoughtfull advice should anything change.

Thanks Marc, hes nt been suggested yet and Cardiff is no distance from me so will give him a call later, much appreciated as to be honest have decided not to go the DIY route and anyhow, Anaglypta is so 1970's

Currently leaning towards Anaglypta Wallpaper

Not 100% sure this will work (the attachment) but here goes..

Quite simply I can not see how the pickups are fitted, no back plate so assume wiring is though the wood, and on that basis I also assume i would have to desolder stuff. With stuff like Fender its a simple matter of removing front plate etc etc - i may will be wrong but the only way for me to find out is to undo everything and potentially mess it up !

Roger2611, spooky as I was thinking more of less the same, found out that the finish is a polyurethane finish, very hard but also hard to sand, however seems with a heat gun it simply peals off (loads of stuff on youtube). I have refinished quite a few (expensive) shotgun stocks using stain and oil, so was thinking that might work. As regards value, given replacement cost is in the region of £6k by the time its landed in the uk YET I have so far never seen one sell for over a third of that, I cant see how I could make it worse, in fact if I get it right I cant see myself wanting to sell it.
I'm hoping that you're kidding.
Of course, Halford's do a much cheaper range of paint
