Looks decent, a couple of quid for new screws and sell the old ones as "reliced"
with what it would cost to do all that work.... what's the difference between that and selling this and getting a new one made?
AFAIK they don't sell them in white, and they cost £2.5k+

^ Like it ^ 'Christ Kicker' and 'Secret Teeth' were my favourites on our "EP", Secret Teeth turned out to be a bit of an epic at the very end https://soundcloud.c.../scary-monsters -
I recently bought an ashdown abm500 evo III. It quickly developed a fault and blew an ampeg 2x10 cab that I already owned. Where do I stand legally as the item i bought damaged something I already owned. Can I claim against ashdown? Cheers
Depends on the fault, though I doubt it.

Anyone heard anything?

I did one gig using just a Sansamp DI, never again

I too am awaiting a scratchplate, my PMs haven't been read though so maybe it's another issue with internet/builders?

Is this the first of the black boxes? If so, probably around £100 maybe a bit more depending on condition. Any pics? I just sold a later V8 in wooden box, mint condition for £90
Perhaps. That doesn't mean they don't cheap out on drivers, just that they're no worse than most other companies in that respect. And you're assuming that they design their own cabs. Most companies do not, farming that job out to independent speaker designers, like me. That gives me the unique opportunity to know exactly what manufacturers do to maintain the highest possible profit margins, and that seldom includes using the best drivers available.
Let's be honest, there's not a great deal of designing involved in making a rectangular box is there.
Hi there, I have a 5 string JJ version that I got second hand for £1000 around 2005, a bit too much maybe but I don't regret it. It belonged to my former teacher and for 5 years I longed for it. It comes in lovely CAR with rosewood fretboard, the neck and body are maple as usual. Very light, indeed, and the slimmest neck I've had. It's glossy finish and the slightly unusual profile makes it a bit slow for me, compared with my other basses, but it is not an issue. Mine doesn't have a head dive, in fact it is probably one of the best balanced basses I've seen. The neck is very stable and you can have a very low action so it is very comfortable. Regarding the sound, I think it is amazing, with the two Bartolini J-style pups and the two-band preamp. The downside is that it has very little output for an active bass and nowadays I feel a bit lost if I don't have a mid-freq pot to fiddle with. Mind you, every time I record something with it it comes incredibly clear and well-defined on the mix... I heard that now they come with an Aguilar preamp, I'm looking forward to try one... All things considered it is a great bass, perhaps "Jazz Bass on steroids" is a good definition for it. Outstandind build quality, 9/10 for me there. 7.5/10 for the sound. If I had the money, I'd get a soapbar version. Cheers. Pablo.
+1 I've never heard of or experienced neckdive with these basses YMMV but I don't think the Aguilar preamp would be suited to mine
Many loudspeaker cab manufacurers use the least expensive speakers that they can get away with whilst charging phenominaly high prices for the finished product. Some few short years ago two of the most popular cabs from a leading UK manufacturer retailed at £499 each, these being a 4x10 and a 1x15, the 10" & 15" speakers left the actual speaker manufacturer for approx £9.50 (10") & £32 (15") each which equated £461 £467 for the empty cabinets which were basic tuned cabinets, nothing complex.
All loudspeaker cabinet manufacturers do: Barefaced for example charge ~£525 for a compact. A £125 speaker, equating to £400 for a bit of plywood
Don't be so sure. As often as not drivers are chosen based on their price, not how well they function.
Not everyone can afford to buy cabs with the most expensive speakers in... Imagine Ashdown's entry range cabs costing the same as a barefaced, they'd never sell any By the way, their amps/cabs are present on almost every major festival stage in this country. By that standard I reckon they know exactly what they're doing
