I had a vintage modified Jazz. Nice bass, played decent enough - only thing it was seriously heavy and for a natural finish the 3 body sections were a horrible match

As long as the wire from the brass plate is connected to the other ground points on the pots/bridge/socket it'll work fine

If you make it passive, won't the clean channel act as a feedback loop?

As mentioned, you need the Shin Ei FY-2 Companion Fuzz. Mega money for an original, or pick up a good clone for around £40-50
