1. The Gotoh 203 is also a good direct replacement whilst retaining the original look.
 2.
Ashdown are confusing me: the "high instrument input" is for passive basses and the "low instrument input" is for active basses? How counter-intuitive is that?
High input impedance is ~4megohms (4'000'000 ohms) Low input impedance is ~10 kilohms (10'000 ohms)
 3.
Hi there i just bought myself a 300w combo and 15 extention cab and i took it back after my first gig it judt didnt cut the mustard as far as i am conserned. i had it a whole two days the shop were good about it and i opted for the 600w head and a seperate 210 cab and kept my 15 cab. i would think that the 200w would sreiously struggle to be honest especially driving two 15 drivers it really does depend on how power hungry the two units are i guess. does the extention cab have a power rating on the back to give you an idea of what you would need to run them both? Markus
I have run a 300W head into just a single 15 before with no volume issues. 200W into a pair of 15's should be plenty loud for most gigs.
 4. Best: Soundslive and Stringbusters
 5. I saved up for months to buy an Ashdown MAG300 and built an MDF monster 210 cabinet. Served me well during the early "MouthBreather" days, later moved onto a MAG410+115 and then to the ABM300 head + ABM410. Currently using that head but had to sell the 410 as it wouldn't fit in my car, replaced with a schroeder 1210L.
 6. Ahh Alexanders, many an underage drunken band night was had there

 8.
The MXR-80+ (nominally 9V battery or supply) works off phantom power, so I assume there's some way of doing it. G.
As does the Sansamp BDDI
 9.
I was responding to... ... which seems to associate "output" with "transformer"... my mistake if that wasn't the intention... If the mains transformer has gone, it won't be quiet - it'll be silent... Alan (In fact I have a MAG 400 head here with a "popped" transformer - it's blowing mains fuses, although if it had failed open rather than short, the fuses would be ok, but it would be just as dead...)
Sorry for confusion. I had a similar problem to the OP with a MAG300 head which turned out to be a faulty mains transformer, everything worked just with a very low output.
 10. It's called 5 years of constant gigging, recording and practice... Not being cased under the bed and played once a fortnight
 11.
£13.30 a set..????????????
Yes.
 12.
I'd end everything if I had to play Elites.
I quite like the stadiums, but stainless steel strings seriously eat my frets.
 13.
... being a solid-state amp, there is *no* output transformer.
No one mentioned an *output* transformer.
 14. Switching back to Elites for a sensible £13.30, my usual La Bellas have gone up to £17.40 a set!! I do like the black silk wrapping though End communication.
 15.
Is there an output for an extension cab on the back? - My money's on a popped transformer.
+1
 16.
I always wondered what it would take to break one of those beasts
I know, I was just tuning up and ping... I was expecting something spectacular
 17.
Been playing 9 years, haven't broken a string yet!
The only (bass) string I've broken was a 130 B. That was at the tuner because it'd been put on and off too much though.
 18. Whenever I change strings (not very often ) I always clean/file the saddles. Could just be unlucky/duff strings though, I guess shipping from the states doesn't help them much with temperature changes on the way.
 19. Where on the string are they breaking? If it's at the bridge check the saddle for rough/sharp edges.
 20.
Well, that's right - we played through one of the Bose L1 systems when we were playing with another band a few weeks ago - that WAS stunning - simple to assemble, light and, - I believe, with a couple of bass speakers fitted you can run bass through them. One of those, plus, as you say, radio headset mics and radio links on the guitars - maybe £3.5K would see us right..... Seriously great piece of kit though - even sound distribution through the room. Very clear and a good tone. What a truly different/attitude changing experience after playing through columns, or their equivalent, for all this time. So what are the next six numbers for Wednesday night's Lotto draw then.... HMMMMMM...
4 8 15 16 23 42
 21.
I know the sort of mark up many businesses put on their cost, but I am not going down that line! I had noticed Promenade Music in Morecambe,50 miles away, had a bass I wanted desperately. On their web site I saw the price as £988, so off I trundles with £900 of folding stuff in my pocket. That's what you are gonna get boys, I will be resolute. Get's there after 1.5 hours (God bless the M6), plays it, wants to marry it. Speaks to Garry (great bloke), wanting deal. £900 in foldy stuff in my pocket. Ticket price in store is £969. Unfortunatelysays Garry, that is discounted (already £266 off) so can't go any lower. Bugger. Wish I had put another £70 in my pocket, and had read the web site properly. Too embarrased to do another 100 mile round trip and certainly won't order over internet. Shame mind. Wonder how many businesses would say no to £900 on a Saturday afternoon, handed over, no other labour /admin costs. Karl.
This is exactly why loads of music shops are going under. £900 cash in hand or £970 minus credit card charge, postage, packaging, labour time and shop floor space. No brainer IMO.
 22. Awesome stuff, it dries in 10 minutes. You can put 20 coats on in a day then gig it that night
