Thank you. Yes. A good amp should give you a useable basic tone without having to crank the sh!t out of all the EQ knobs, sliders, buttons, whatever. Especially when you don't have the brain power to figure out a mix of sliders and rotary controls, apparently.
Joke. Chill out.
Splendid - is that a bit Elephanty? Do you find your windows rattle? Your interior wiring is a lot neater than mine! I got some craft spray in a rattle can from B&Q. It's a bit soft but once fully dried the clear acrylic lacquer gives it a harder finish. Next time I want to try some of those more doody halfords metal-effect rattle cans.
A little bit Tried out a few different transistors in Q2, MPSA13 and 3904 give pretty much the same result - Swapped for a 2222 atm. I've tried car spray paint on primer before which dried OK but a bit on the soft side. Don't have any baking facilities unfortunately.

A little something I put together a few weeks ago (the PCB circuit you sent is built up but still needs some debugging Al) Just need to find time to finish the box, what paint did you use?
I wonder how much of the 'woolly Ashdown' moans are related to specific speaker cabs? Unless an amp is complete rubbish (which I know Ashdown amps are far from being!) it should be pretty easy to EQ out wooliness. Alex
I suspect the 115 cabs/combos, the MAG 15 I had was not a good cab on it's own. Alex IIRC you said you knew the EQ settings for "flat" response for a variety of amps, any ideas for the ABM EVO II?
Quite excited, and its again made me realise how good their customer service is.
Depends who you talk to, I was emailing "designer" Adrian Emsley about a technical question which at first he ignored, then proceeded to tell me what I can and can't do with MY amp, avoided my question and then gave me the complete wrong answer... Edit- back on topic, do have fun though
I thought the whole point of having an eq was to use it....
Not many people have the brain power to figure out a mix of sliders and rotary controls...
I'm soooooo bored at hearing that Ashdowns are woolly. I wish you could have heard my ABM piped through my Schroeder cab it was superb - not a sniff of sheep anywhere.
+1, my EVO II through the Schroeder is awesome. If that's what they call wooly, some people need to clean their ears
I managed to blow the driver in an ABM115 without driving it very hard. Its the one and only speaker I've blown in 22 yeas of playing. After that i sold it all as I was a bit wary of something else going wrong - plus I absolutely hated the wooly, indistinct sound and the excessive controls on the shiny chrome head.
Unlucky with a defective part maybe?
Question for ya. Do Ashdown sound like sh*t? The reason I ask is, the only decent? amp I have ever owned is a Ashdown mag300. Before that it was all practice amp, small stuff. It`s a few years old and one of the british ones. I took the head out of it and stuck it in a case for ease of transportation. I was in a local shop the other day and heard a guy playing through a Eden ENX260 head and a 6 x 10 Apeg cab and it sounded fantastic! But at 499 it was a bit steep, but on Thoman it`s only 395. Told the guy that I had an Ashdown and he instantly replied Crashdown as they keep breaking down apparently. I keep spending money on guitars but I think that I should spend some cash (not a lot though) on a new head. What about Gk or Hartke? Any tips? Jez
Seeing as you own one, does your MAG head sound like sh*t? If you are unhappy with your sound then obviously you need to change something, maybe start with the EQ. What sort of sound are you looking for? Bear in mind what sounds fantastic in a music shop is going to sound different elsewhere (where it actually matters) Also, I've come across more broken Hartke gear than any other make...
