1. OK, will let this run for a week or so and see where we're up to. If people could post which sets and quantity you want that'd be useful
2.
Now, the big dilemma: impedance. Is it going to be a 4 ohm cab, an 8 ohm cab, or a @#?!£ cab? All I want to know if impedance is going to be lower than 4 ohms. I can't have impedance lower than 4 ohms, since my Little Mark can't handle them. And I'd like it to be under 6 ohms at least for more power. This is the impedance graph for the two 12":
3. Just a note: shipping is going to cost $6 + 15% of the subtotal + the UK customs charge. What do you guys reckon?
4.
Think i will stick with my abm 4x10 cab,can not fault that for build quality
Aye mine was bombproof, and about the size and weight of a bomb shelter too
5.
Can you mix and match types in a bulk order? I'd chip in for a couple of sets of flatwounds if you're including any in the order...
Had a check and yes in the checkout you get the bulk discount on flats too
6. I've tried the stainless steels and they are really good, very similar to Elites. No silk on the ends though. You get a bulk discount on sets with the same number of strings (if they are the same price) so if we can get a few people interested it could be $9 for a 4 string set
7. Anyone interested getting in on a bulk order from the states? Let me know http://www.webstrings.com/electric_bass_strings_index.html Current order: 4 string: 2 x Medium Flatwounds 1 x Medium Stainless Roundwounds 3 x Medium Nickel Roundwounds
8. Only Energizer fit in my bass (can they not set a standard size for 9V?), they last about 6 months.
9. Wouldn't mind a go, Chester/Warrington/Liverpool area
10. Tis a heavy bugger, I got rid of mine coz it wouldn't fit (easily) in the new car. Shame because the sound was amazing. The Schroeder is a completely different beast, same sort of volume available but tons more high mids and treble - try before you buy
11.
You can get away with it, but you shouldn't. High frequency output from the woofer will have a different phase response than the tweeter, causing destructive interference, and the impedance of the cab above the HF corner frequency will be 4 ohms, not 8. Many cab manufacturers do use a high-pass only, not because it's the right way, but because it's the cheaper way. BTW, if you're adding a tweeter it should cross no higher than 2kHz with 12s, 2.5 Khz with 10s. Manufacturers usually go much higher, it's true, but as for why they do, see above.
Thanks
12.
+6 1332
+2 1334
13. My ABM head + ABM 410 cab was the best sounding rig I've heard - perfect in the bands mix... but then we "split", I decided I needed the extra space, and couldn't fit the cab in the new car
14. How do If I want to wire up an 8ohm tweeter with an 8ohm woofer do I need a full crossover or can I get away with just using a high pass filter @ 4kHz on the tweeter? Cheers
15.
I'm sorry, did I trash someone? I just quoted exactly what I received in a pm from another basschatter, which should help provide a reference versus another popular 1x12". Feeling upset about losing MJ are we? Alex
By this reckoning the compact can be compared to another popular 1x15 then? What's MJ got to do with anything?
16.
Areas of circles isn't critical when comparing one driver against another, but it is important to realise that you do need some kind of square measurement, since a speaker cone has a surface area (ie 2 dimensions, not just the 1 you've used). If you say that a 4x10 is equivalent to 10 x 10 x 4 = 400 and that a 1x15 is equivalent to 15 x 15 x 1 = 225 then you'd be on the right track. Thing is, you then need to bring in the third dimension (ie how much air the speakers move). Assuming the 10's you're using have an Xmax of 4mm (which is more than most of them have) then you're looking at a displacement of 10 x 10 x 4 x 4 = 1600 The 3015LF has an Xmax of 9.6mm, which gives you 15 x 15 x 9.6 x 1 = 2160. 3015 wins, hands down. A
But only in terms of excursion
17. Check it out on the royal mail site, just enter the weight. I expect the size format will be "packet" http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFin...ear=pricingcalc
18.
This is how I did it
+1
19. Not to be a dick, but I posted a Gotoh bridge for less than £3 recorded.
20. 5 scourers out of a packet of 12
21. Vol, vol, tone, tone, kill switch?
22. IME the Ashdown 15's are pretty quiet and need to be paired with a second cab. The freq response is only to 2kHz and the amp runs 180W into an 8ohm load. The MAG 300 head through Ashdown 10's would kill the Hartke
23.
thought I'd do the clever thing and google this question. ended up with this thread from talkbass. Of course, they don't reach a final conclusion, but I've now moved the amp into the shady part of my room just incase.
I'm banned from TB, did they argue for 30 pages then talk about how good Jaquouo QIIXI is?
24. I have a bass one that I could be tempted to part with
25. The big metals ones tend to go for around £100 on here, the modern XO ones slightly less.
