1. I'm not a fan of single 15" speakers. I certainly wouldn't go for the Laney 115 as the frequency range is only 35-800Hz. The Marshall 115 at least has a HF horn which will increase that somewhat although I can't find any specs atm.

    A 210 or 410 is what I'd go for :)

  2. Cheers, it's a terrific bass - the Bartolini electronics give a huge sound. The neck is super fast and makes a jazz look fat :)
Recently had the frets dressed as they were showing some wear - Ged Green did an awesome job on it - highly recommended: http://www.gedgreen.co.uk/

  3. Was good apart from the drum kick pedal falling apart repeatedly, the bass amp not working (another reason not to use Hartke sh*te), massive bass feedback from the monitors and being forced to play first rather than main support.

Nothing beats using your own equipment, but one of the other bands (who should probably should be called "you can use the most expensive equipment in the world but it still won't make you good") insisted on using their own kit which took up 20 minutes of stage time swapping it over - then the kick pedal broke when we used it... Brill :)

  4.
Well, there are substantial differences between Paul Tutmarc’s electronic bass fiddle and Leo Fender’s precision bass – not least that Tutmarc’s instrument was based on a 30 1/2” scale length and used an inferior gauge of string - both of these design criteria affecting the instruments range, and making it more comparable to a baritone guitar than a bass. The registrations for the developments and inventions that Fender made are clearly the basis for the modern electric bass, and Fender's was certainly the first mass-produced instrument.
There are substantial differences between a Fender P and Jean Baudin's 4million string bass but they're both still bass guitars.

Plus I wasn't disputing the fact that it was the first mass-produced bass, just that it wasn't the "first" electric, fretted bass :)

  5. Allegedly Emsley designed these amps yet (after 4 emails of nonsense/avoiding the question) gives out duff info about them...

For future reference: Connecting an extension speaker will CUT power to the internal speaker, leading me to believe that you can connect a 4ohm cabinet to this output. (I tested with an 8ohm since that's all I have handy atm)

    RH :)

  6.
Hey,

Firstly, sorry for starting my own thread to talk about this, i have used the search function and looked through numerous threads, but i have a few direct questions i was hoping someone could answer.

I run quite a hot signal with a plethora of overdrive/fuzz units usually turned on and so i am looking for a compressor, preferably in stomp box form, to help even out my signal and prevent my amp (or someone else's amp perhaps more importantly) from being blown.

And so which Compressor would you suggest i purchase? I've read good things about the Aphex Punch Factory, the EBS and the BBE Opto Stomp all which seem within my price range of £100.

It is important that i buy a durable pedal and i do want it to be transparent when turned on. Hence why i am willing to spend the extra as it seems that the Aphex may not be too road hardy.

    Thanks for your help, Rich
Hiya, I'm selling my Toadworks Mr. Squishy compressor if you're interested?

Review here: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/squishy.shtml which I would agree with + it's very solidly built IMO :)

  7. What it says on the tin - near perfect condition, boxed, cost me just over £100 new. Its currently got velcro on the back but I can get some new feet for it if needed. It's a really good compressor for bass and guitar - cleans up your tone really well (particularly distorted bass which is what I mainly used it for) and is awesome with a clean guitar.

    Yours for £80 posted ono.

    (pics later)

    Cheers :)

I liked your band too btw! That Christ Kicker song would fit a Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack!
Same here, we probably have about 30 original songs (plus loads of random riffs) and only a handful recorded :-/

  10.
How about tuning a 4 string:
    (Low/Drop) D (.110)
    (Regular) A (.085)
    (up from D) E (0.50)
    (down from high C to) B (0.35)
They're some seriously fat strings :)
