Hey, Firstly, sorry for starting my own thread to talk about this, i have used the search function and looked through numerous threads, but i have a few direct questions i was hoping someone could answer. I run quite a hot signal with a plethora of overdrive/fuzz units usually turned on and so i am looking for a compressor, preferably in stomp box form, to help even out my signal and prevent my amp (or someone else's amp perhaps more importantly) from being blown. And so which Compressor would you suggest i purchase? I've read good things about the Aphex Punch Factory, the EBS and the BBE Opto Stomp all which seem within my price range of £100. It is important that i buy a durable pedal and i do want it to be transparent when turned on. Hence why i am willing to spend the extra as it seems that the Aphex may not be too road hardy. Thanks for your help, Rich
Hiya, I'm selling my Toadworks Mr. Squishy compressor if you're interested? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=28059 Review here: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/squishy.shtml which I would agree with + it's very solidly built IMO

What it says on the tin - near perfect condition, boxed, cost me just over £100 new. Its currently got velcro on the back but I can get some new feet for it if needed. It's a really good compressor for bass and guitar - cleans up your tone really well (particularly distorted bass which is what I mainly used it for) and is awesome with a clean guitar. Yours for £80 posted ono. (pics later) Cheers Review: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/squishy.shtml
Thanks! We need more recent material though :$ I liked your band too btw! That Christ Kicker song would fit a Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack!
Same here, we probably have about 30 original songs (plus loads of random riffs) and only a handful recorded :-/
How about tuning a 4 string: (Low/Drop) D (.110) (Regular) A (.085) (up from D) E (0.50) (down from high C to) B (0.35)
They're some seriously fat strings

Didn't help that we only learnt it on Friday night lol
if he's out the band, it still means we will have no drummer for the london gig! lol
Yeah but he won't f*** you about again lol
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Same here, am feeling rather underwhelmed :-/
well, we've managed to get our very first london gig! and we were all ready and hyped up for it, but just recently, our drummer has said he cant do it!?!?! What do we do! we can either find someone to fill in, even thought its so short notice, and i doubt a new drummer will have enough time to get use to the songs (just a week away from the gig), or cancel it, which i myself do not want to do! cancelling with such short notice probably wont get us another gig there either.
Tell him he's playing or he's out the band.
I posted a bass and it was over £60. What's the problem???
The fact that you can post a bass for £15 lol

Depends entirely on what sort of sound you are looking for.
That is a positive thing
Definitely. The Gibson style bridge is a nightmare.
Protium, Sorry, you misread my note. The web advice in the book I'm recommending is crap - it says "don't list your gigs on your website, if you feel you must have one, as rival bands will get ideas for places to play" and crap like that. I'm a total, and very vocal, advocate of both websites and Myspace .. Check the link from my sig
Woops totally misread, sorry
Short sharp pumps are the key to filling properly rather than a long pump and always hold the butane upside down. I get much longer than 5 mins soldering time.
Will try this. They say to have the butane upside down and 10 seconds should fill the iron for about 80 minutes soldering time...
-
How do you fill them properly? I've got this Bernzomatic iron and following their filling instructions I get liquid butane everywhere and only about 5 minutes soldering time?
Get a copy of this absolutely excellent book/ebook on how to do it, and then how to get booked back. It will be the best £15 you've ever spent on anything to do with your playing, no question. http://www.gig-getter.co.uk/indextest.htm Don't be put off by the marketing. Oh and the Web advice is a bit crap but the "personal approach" to pubs bit is right on the money.
A decent myspace (done properly not cluttered up with pics, slideshows, top 8000 friends etc) - you can have everything on one page, music plays while they read your bio, dead easy to navigate, dead easy for people to get in contact, massive online network with other bands/fans etc, and it's FREE! Doesn't seem too crap to me
-
Daft question but are you sure it's the machine heads? Have you tried tightening them, checked its not the strings, etc.

Hi, we are MouthBreather: http://www.myspace.com/mouthbreathermp3 We play a pretty diverse mix of rock and metal with some funk and jazz influences mixed in. We're playing the Doghouse V3 (now "Underground") in Runcorn old town on the 26th Sept and 9th Oct if you wana check us out... Rich

Have a demo CD of 2 or 3 tracks with your contact details included. Go to pubs and ask if they are looking for bands, leave a CD with the landlord etc. Have a decent myspace that is checked and kept up to date regularly. And just the right amounts of persistence and patience

Got it already, but would like another one to go with it
BIG +1! Then also the ones that bring their own sh*tty little crackly practice combo, see that you've got something that's actually SUITABLE and expect to plug into yours.
There was one gig the bassist was sound and didn't give me any trouble at all but when I'm setting up the amp for him the guitarist comes over: "Who the f*** are you?" - one of these pretentious 16 year old metal heads with an iron maiden vest on. I asked him if he thought his dean headstock would be comfortable when shoved 2 foot up his colon.
