Guitar/bass valuations - any recommendations?
AinsleyWalker replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in General Discussion
One of the members is actually deceased, it's signed by all of Avenged Sevenfold before drummer 'the Rev' died. I think my friend looked into similar items and got a rough price in mind, but wants to be a bit more sure. That's fair enough, and thanks for the rec. 👍 -
I have a friend who is looking to part ways with a signed guitar, but isn't too sure how to accurately value/authenticate the signatures. Guitar is in great condition, never played seriously. Doesn't come with a certificate, but it was won in a competition at the band's own gig and comes with other merch including a 7" vinyl. Any suggestions? Anything is appreciated at this stage. Can give more info privately.

Hi all, I'm looking for some kind of power module like in the photo further below, but one that I can connect to my power supply's 18v 'Boss style' input (orange input seen here) I've been using a Palmer PWT12 supply for a few years, fairly inexpensive compared to the likes of Cioks and Strymon but still good quality, no noise etc. Unfortunately the mains cord is dying. I've had it repaired a few times but it just gets worse with time and I'd rather not risk blowing my pedals. It doesn't seem possible to buy the mains cord by itself. Rather than replace the whole supply, I wondered if I could get something like in the picture below. A power module that I can position on the edge of my board and connect to the supply itself. Does anyone know of anything that might be suitable? I can only seem to see IEC-to-EC cables like this one. Cheers

No need to apologise at all, happy to explain! Sidechain compression first. Trigger input goes in to compressor, and when that trigger crosses a set threshhold, the volume on another track is affected (usually reduced momentarily). A common application of this in production situations is to feed a signal from the kick drum to a compressor's sidechain on a bass track. This means when the kick happens, the volume of the bass reduces by a desired amount so the kick is clear and not fighting the bass frequencies as much. And then 'ducking' is just a more extreme version of that, I suppose. Rather than a subtle effect for getting things out the way for a moment, it can be used to create more dramatic volume swells, pulsing etc. It's very commonly used on synths in electronic music, especially house. The Pill allows you to dial in the depth of the volume drop, and how quickly it recovers again. It's a simple effect in essence but a fairly unique one for pedals, from what I know. Demo:

Thanks! And same, first became aware of the Pill in early 2020 but just wasn't able to get a preorder in until this batch First impressions are that it's very cool, especially with long drawn out synths/pads etc for groove based ducking. Nice with reverb for volume swell type effects too, but you have to nail your timing so the note doesn't stick out before/after the ducking

Been looking forward to this arriving! The Pill from Switzerland - sidechain compression / ducking effect. You can use the touch sensitive controls to trigger the effect, but I've got some patterns coming out Ableton that I'll send into the trigger input. Looking forward to seeing what it can do!!

Not sure about that. Plenty of Ibanez basses have similarly small headstocks (tiny headstocks are definitely an irrational hate of mine while we're on the topic) which fit 'Ibanez' just fine And there actually examples of older 'soundgear' basses that do include the full 'Ibanez' name like below. But at some point they must have switched the current logo.
