[/quote] Aren't you forgetting sumthing?...todays original recording will still be crappy compressed digital, or are studios now going over to four inch tape and Fostex to keep the whole thing "authentic", I doubt it somehow. I listen to some of my stuff from the 70's and late 60's and just know it's highly doubtful its ever going to be replicated...

He holds his sticks with his index fingers placed rigidly on the top of the sticks which means his wrists are stiff and the groove is suffering. Its the same at nearly every outdoor show I've worked at over the last few years (Im a photographer for my sins!). Can anyone explain the deal with those bloody great subs below the front of the stage....reckon I've yet to hear a nice balance anywhere in any field that I've stood in, and Ive seen some experienced session bassists playing who all end up sounding like boom and mud......hopeless.

Your in a confined room with no bodies to soak up the volume plus surely the idea is to interact and sort things out etc so 60 watts is plenty if the guitars do the right thing and max the pre's and lower their master vol's. Also this idea that you have to keep up with the "loud" drummer is a bit amateurish imo. Our drummer simply plays a bit quieter in rehearsal and he still sounds crisp and on the money. Your ears will thank you for it in 30 yrs time.

How about this then? Local (mature) band I'm doing a couple of outdoor events with this summer have a funny little habit of changing keys on the fly depending on how the singers voice is...eh? I cant understand it and even they dont seem to realise what they are up to...its very funny has me in stitches but they cant see why I'm laughing..has to be the weirdest thing I think I've ever done. Huge fun though.

My heavy old 71 P was a dog so damn sick it could barely stay on its stand anymore. Over the board it sounded pretty lush but the open E string was so dead as to be inaudible, tried strings, neck bolts, bone nuts, bridges everything to bring it alive and figured that either the neck wood or body wood were causing some sort of cancellation...weird

If it could be proven beyond doubt that he recorded 'Darling Dear, 'Bernadette' etc etc on it then it could be argued that historically it's a pretty cool instrument but without the proof.....

Just started doing some outdoor summer deps for an easy local covers band after a lay off of 20 years!. Mixed feelings bout the whole thing really. Tunes are a mix of the usual pub rock classics and pop stuff but I vowed years ago never to do any more pub band gigs....EVER!. Thing is its bloody good fun and my playing has got better over the years so it does feel pretty enjoyable, The important thing for me is that I dont take it to seriously but if they start to do the pubs Im out.
