Phwoar - check the knurling on that!! I like the nickel actually - good colour.

Alpher are based closed to me in West Yorkshire I think. They are 2? guys in a smallish workshop, and def. not paying NY rent. I bet they're not paying themselves much either as they're building the business - they do make some amazing instruments. Health Insurance is a massive cost in the US - especially if you're providing a comprehensive plan with good coverage for your staff. (This is why wages are generally higher for jobs in the middle salary and above, because many affordable healthcare plans are not amazing, but enough to keep your employees with you for decades for fear of being uninsured or not getting the same/better coverage if they move jobs. But that's a whole other story.)

That’s coz it’s scared of Mods.

Yeah - not a fan of the half a head but it is a beautiful thing, and he makes it sound great too. *looks down back of sofa for hundred dollar bills*

It looks really nice, classy. How much was it btw?

Yes! That’s why I love Prog. I’m still utterly impressed that Alex went from his blues-rock soloing that he grew up with on Working Man to his technically epic noodling in multiple styles all over La Villa Strangiato, in about 4 years.

That's next decade though, not sure I want to think about my age by then.

The Necromancer is one of my favourite tracks. It's just, everything. Shush. I learned to play the long players like Fountain of Lamneth, 2112 and Xanadu when I first got a bass. Once I got to Hemispheres part 2 I realised my limitations I guess there's not much variation in Live stuff from back then - CoT was written on the road while touring Fly by Night, and 2112 was very soon afterwards. It's nice to listen to Geddy's voice from this era too - while the recent live albums are amazing playing, he's obviously struggling to reach those 70s notes with his voice.
-
It’s a great addition, as are all the 40th anniversary reissues, some top live cuts on them. I want them to do the same for Caress of Steel and Fly By Night too!

You bought your car a Combustion 5! Cor, nice.
-
This also works if you are just too far away from your car for the key fob to lock/unlock it - hold the fob to your head while you press it.

He’s 68 1/2; he can do as little or as different as he likes!

I have just one (and one guitar), but that’s because I have no room for more. I don’t even get time to plug into my guitar amp (no bass amp) or get my pedals out. The Boy has a penchant for being ruinous to everything that isn’t his, and his sisters are too untidy to give me space.
-
As I recall, you could at one point spec the Canadian D-Roc with the Combustion switching. Sheldon also showed a diagram of the wiring and how to change it yourself for various series/parallel combos.
-
I have played it a few times and really like it. There’s a good interview with the bass player (who worked for Anthem Records and introduced Geddy to Tech 21 gear apparently) and their collaborative effort (lockdown-imposed) really shows as it’s not an Alex plus friends thing at all, just 4 great musicians making a really cool record.

“When is good, good enough?” Have you seen Whiplash?!
-
It's like the Joey of basses, just leaning there all casually. "How you doin?" When the D-Roc was first teased by Sheldon I did say it met a definite need (want!) in the market and I bet it sells shedloads, and it wouldn't be long before they needed a Standard* version like the Combustions to serve volume, as well as the err Custom*? ones made in Saskatoon. *I've forgotten the nomenclature!

Which one makes toast?

“As heavy as a washing machine, but twice as loud as a 1600 spin with uneven feet.”
-
That's a lovely end result. Great finish and look. How much does it weigh?
-
It even matches the sofa and flooring: will look good in house sale pictures Joking aside: lovely bass. Very fretless indeed, wonder if there are some slightly fretless ones out there.
-
Yeah - I hear some demo vids where they're playing grindy, distorted riffs in tunings well below B, and even with clever DG pedals and skilful playing to cut the boom and sludge it's pretty atonal to my ears.

I do like their noodling. It’s like Scale the Summit without the unnecessary guitars
