  1. But the option wasn’t there because the precedent was set by other bands willing to play for nothing.
  2. Poor analogy. You’re being asked to come to a gig and play for the benefit of others. Many such events may well feature paid bar staff, some of whom may just have started doing such work. They still deserve a wage.
  3. You could have learned the same skills while being paid: it’s not mutually exclusive, you don’t need L plates on your amps!
  4. There’s a difference between unpaid and very poorly paid. Also a difference between unpaid overtime (implicit in some employment contracts) and volunteering.
  5. Because they know better, apparently. Pressure not to complain. Go look at twitter; many small acts have a hard time having to play for nothing but feeling like they can’t do anything about it.
  6. And so you perpetuate the problem! Your practicing was in the studio/bedroom/garage surely. If you’re being asked to perform your skills for the entertainment of others, you ought to be paid.
  7. Nonsense! I’ve learned my career skills while working and being paid. If I needed training they would pay for that too.
  8. If I were to change careers I would still expect to get paid by my new employers, even if I needed time to become fully productive.
  9. That twitter thread went well until the ultra-capitalist dipstick at the end tweeted. Some people!
  10. So the event organisers don’t think a band here is worth paying for. Why would you want to play under those circumstances?
  11. The poster was specifically referring to a hobby at the weekend. You’re also not depriving professional footballers of income by playing for free at your local park.
  12. You don’t play football or golf for other people’s entertainment! And the only service you might provide is to A&E…
  13. I had a red one of these for about 20 years: lovely to play.
  14. The Custard Factory's in Digbeth I think, that's rather trendy thesedays. And the coach station. The rest is roads innit?
  15. Cancer's deffo not my cup of tea, you're right! Yeah - that's rough - he's not even 50 (Wiki check). All the best to him.
  16. And Jack's been walking for decades more than some of us...
  17. Happy Jack and the Curse of the Fallible Preamps. Box office smash, t-shirts and Lego sets aplenty, I tell you...
  18. Season 1 review: short on character expansion, predictable set up for season 2. If this gets cancelled i’m shutting my Disney+ account!
  19. What’s bigger than A0, A-(minus)1??
  20. Keep on keepin on, bloke!
  21. It’s not even half the size of Rutland, and has a population of 39,000. I’m sure the Dept of Trade worked through a lunchtime to seal that deal…
  22. @Andyjr1515 Esq. BAh (humbug) of this parish certainly does. There are several amazing builders on here, not sure which other ones do guitars.
  23. Yeah: @Andyjr1515 why don’t you make one extra each time and have a box of 20 different sized swifts?
  24. "Darkening of the Volute" - that sounds like the latest EP from basschat's resident neo-prog-metal band.
