Narrow it down for us: 4 string, 5, fretless, Classic style (J or P etc.) or something a bit different?
I just tried to find the video I was referring to and it doesn't seem to be available now. It was a play along of Elvis Costello's Pump It Up by You Tube user TJH3113.
that guy is a great player - especially for bass players wanting to learn songs. You can hear his playing, and he sits nice and still. (I've seen plenty of terrible videos, no matter how good the player is.)

I have an AH250(I think it is a 250 anyway) and a 1053 - owned them from new since 1998.

The same goes for the Markbass Combo he put his name to: it's a decent price but not silly money - and quality without being flash.

Status Quo hanging up their electric guitars
Daz39 replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
Legends. I think their own success is exactly why they are their own Tribute Band. They've stuck to the same formula, once they stumbled upon it, and it works. It fills arenas and shifts records. They are to UK music what ZZ Top are to the US. Been around forever, stuck to the same method, your Dad has one of their albums and the band are not remotely serious about themselves. -
I appear to have a millenial generation attitude
And you know this how?
Both personal and anecdotal experience from peers. I'm not saying that all council jobs are like this, far from it - but short of the Call Centre industry, it's a poor relation to the expectations/attitude in a lot of private sector companies I've come across. I blame my parents too - they have cushy pensions and no mortgage, and retired early. I think I'll be dead long before I retire... -
Indeed, yet this myth still persists. Neither have pay levels increased to those of the private sector by way of compensation...
No - but sick leave is laughably uncontrolled in some councils, and 'performance reviews' are just tick boxes. -
Ooh, a Warwick 5er.. tempting. I'm not sure I could trust myself living so close to a shop like that ;0
The graph takes a terrifying dive after 51-60. Should I start harp lessons now?
Harp? That's what all the whingy emo-rockers call anything with more than 6 (sometimes 4)strings posted on a facebook Bass page. Anyone who's seen it will know what I mean. I have genuine worries about death. I mean, it's pretty scary. It's nearly worth spending my life in blissful ignorance and believing in a religion. Almost.

My stands come from the music section at Toys R Us - £8. Don't laugh - they work! Small A-Frame, light, nothing's fallen over yet.

I'm 39. Never gigged, but was in a band very briefly at University (last millennium - sob!). I did my back a few times from the abuse I gave it as an athlete in my youth, but a decent mattress has largely fixed that. Like a few others - too much time spent raising sprogs, paying the real gas bill and visiting supermarkets to have much time for anything except bedroom noodling with the amp on 'sshhh..' *dramatic sigh*

I use the EBS flat cables as well, they're brilliant and come in at least 3 sizes.
And too many of them...
All bands have to start somewhere. A similar argument persists with e.g. aviation and the publishing world (both of which I have had experience of), in which the common whine is that new entrants are making it a 'race to the bottom' by undervaluing themselves. If you have a problem with others valuing themselves for less than yourself, you need to ensure you are properly differentiated to get the required attention. If these pubs want to pay peanuts they will get monkeys (as it were.) You can't directly attribute falling pub numbers to rubbish bands. There's a lot more to do with social drinking culture, the spread of cheap supermarket booze and a million channels of drivel to watch on TV to stop people having a good reason to go to the pub.

You can't win: Option A - take the £200 and you'll get loads of calls in the future for work and then 'but you only charged thingy £200,' or Option B - explain why £200 for a wedding is (diplomatically) not acceptable, and you're the bad guy. Because after all, it's just a hobby, right and we'll give you beer...

Yep - there's definitely an Apple-type cache building up around Darkglass; which is their differentiation from the other major pedal players. It will sell like hotcakes, of that there is no doubt.

Own up - who wants one?! Just announced for NAMM - no specs yet, just shiny pictures from their Facebook page.

GET YOUR PEAVEY's OUT - American Rudy Sarzo Signature
Daz39 replied to BassManGraham's topic in Gear Gallery
I have a Peavey these days: budget priced Millennium. £179, made in Vietnam, has neck dive because the head is stupid; but boy does it sound good, and the neck is brilliant and smooth. Full on the bridge pickup, 80% on the neck and roll off the tone and it's very Jazz-like. I do hit the strings hard too, so even with half-wounds I get a lovely punch. Ok - can't work out how to add an attachment into this post or my content. The Bass is my profile pic though. *grumbles about modern technology* -
I went to a jam session once after meeting a guitarist in Newcastle's premiere Rock Pub (it's sadly gone now, I believe). I rocked up to the community centre or wherever it was with my Strat copy (18th b'day present) and my Zoom 4040, and we made some random noises for a bit. Once we decided to actually do a song I switched to Bass - the centre had one there; an RBX with a Trace Boxer Amp, very nice, and the keyboardist took my guitar. We played Comfortably Numb and being a bit drunk and bored and still a newbie I started playing in every octave available (all 5 or so notes of the bass line), while the rhythm guitarist struggled to work out which chord was which and the lead guitarist was off in the ether playing like Gilmour himself. I thought we were brilliant, but then strangely the lead guitarist moved to Barnsley to attend music college, the rhythm guitarist quit to get a job at Burger King and the Drummer's wife told him to stop messing about with new bands. At least that's what they told ME!! OP still wins at the moment though...
Statutory rights like these relate to a contract between a retailer and a consumer. The consumer has no contract with the manufacturer other than a manufacturer's warranty. On private sales of second hand goods the consumer has far less protection. It basically comes down to whether the item is as described and there is no requirement to disclose faults (although if the item is listed for sale as being in excellent condition, you'd be able to argue that it was not as described). Warranties are not transferable unless there is a specific clause in the contract.
Sorry -had forgotten the OP got the bass 2nd hand!

Nod - on the one hand Iron Maiden do it and frankly it's quite tricky to hear the difference unless you have stereo speaker stuff going on. They have 3 strats with different tones - but they all solo differently so I guess it works. On the other hand: Counting Crows usually record/tour thesedays with 3 guitarists - taking turns to be the gnarly lead player, sparkly rhythm jangle and (my favourite) the tremolo-drenched chordal stabs. Echo the earlier post about alternate turnings. Playing the same chord in different tunings will really emphasis things when you need it to. And stop similar pentatonic-noodling when you're wanting to do some sparkly arpeggios instead.

Half Rounds for me: 45-100 for me - play lovely and smooth.

I have an AH250 and a 15" Cab by TE. Awesomely heavy - I even used them to hold the shower tray down when I resealed it...
