If You Could Have 1 Hour With Any Living Bass Player.....?

Well it'd have to be Tal if she didn't remind me of my DAUGHTER. God I'm old ............. -
I played a gig where a 4x10 was total overkill last night. Im thinking of picking one of these up....but also thinking a nice 1x12 cab would be more suitable!
I can't imagine it being overkill with our drummer - but I agree maybe a single speaker cab would be nicer. I like the look of the Promethean 1*15 (if you look at my sig you'll see I have a Nemesis 1*15 which I can't recommend enough - love it!) but I already have the 4*10 so I'll take it along and see.
Any plans to record it miked?
No, I always record DI. Tried it in another house today to see if there was any mains borne interference. No real difference. I'm guessing it's typical for this amp - I can't A/B it with another as I'm in the middle of rural France but from what I've read mines not a real bad one. I'll see how it sounds at it's first gig in couple of weeks - plugged into my Warwick 4*10. Hopefully it'll be loud enough ??

Reviving an old thread - I've just received my Promethean combo and guess what - it hisses!! Thing is it doesn't seem volume related at all - the gain and master settings don't appear to have any effect on the level of hiss - it sounds like psu interference to me?? At least the plus is that at gigi volumes it'll be inaudible. So, should I send it back? Any comments?

I love looking at the pattern of bids...
barneythedog replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I agree you see some dubious bidding patterns on ebay, some are so blatant it beggars belief. In this case however it all looks legit to me. Good point, bad example (imho) -
the strings are tauter near the bridge too, so when it comes to playing fast it can be easier at that end of the the bass. Having said that I agree, I generally prefer the warmth of the neck end.
Dude, if you dont have a particular budget for pickups try Andy and his absolutly fantastic hand wound pickups, got myself some 84's and they really turn any bass into a monster. wizard pickups There are a lot of people on here who can vouch for Andy and his customer service is great! Hope this helps
I have a pair of 84's I'm selling. Almost new, about 4 months old. Bought the wrong ones TBH and can't get on with them.

good to see. he's 15. If he can stick with it he's gonna be superb. Wish I had been that good at his age.
-
I buy from them on a regular basis. Good service, fast, efficient, good prices - what more do you want? Mind you, I live in France so the exchange rate isn't an issue. Bigjohn - just email them and ask them to send the items they have. I've done this on a number of occasions with no problems (or additional shipping cost). Andy

So, any further news? How's she going?

LMII vs GK700RB-II vs Warwick Profet 5.1
barneythedog replied to chris_pokkuri's topic in Amps and Cabs
I currently have both a Warwick 5.1 and an original Little Mark. The Warwick is for sale. Speaks for itself ? -
Started on guitar, but there were too many guitarists and no bass players so to get in a band I swapped. Learned a twelve bar in A, and been playing it (the twelve bar in A!) ever since

An old post revived. I just wanted to add my opinion, as I've just finished the opto mod on a CS-3 I bought of the 'bay. I've recently changed from a Warwick Profet amp (with inbuilt compressor) to a Little Mark (with no onboard comp), so I have been on the look out for a pedal. To echo the previous comments, this is a WELL worthwhile mod. The most obvious change to me was, as Steve says; the controls now DO something. On top of that, it seems a lot more transparent. When I first bought the pedal I was very disappointed how much of my "sound" disappeared with the pedal on. No more. This makes a well built but pretty average pedal into something well worth having. As a footnote I would add that, whilst it IS a DIY mod, a degree of skill (or a LOT of patience) is required. I am fortunate that in a former life I was an electronics tech. and have lots of experience in soldering, desoldering etc. As a first attempt at soldering I would recommend starting on something simpler.

nice looking ibanez ATK
barneythedog replied to budget bassist's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
now that went for silly money. I love them (had two, still got one), but even allowing for the colouring .... really?? -
Anyone remember Musical Exchanges when it was just off Broad Street? Showing my age now.
-
not as old as mine Excellent bass. If I had the cash, I'd buy another. Someone please buy it.
Just get a 2nd hander off here! Sod buying new
exactly. And you certainly shouldn't overlook the big Jap names; Yamaha (as mentioned) and Ibanez. Very well put together mid priced instruments are available from both of these which easily compete with (outperform IMHO) OLP, Rockbass and Squier. The biggest selling point for the OLP/Rockbasses etc. is that they look like their big brothers. If you can see past that there are some stunning offerings from Yamaha and Ibanez.
Are the necks on the Tokai Jazz Sounds any wider at the nut than the Fenders?
Can't really speak for all of them, but I believe mine is the same as the 60's Fender it's based on. -
Sounds like good progress being made Alex! I've been playing with WInISD myself recently, and was just wondering if there were any anticipated issues with group delay? This may of course be a totally stupid question, as I'm not really sure what I'm talking about
