I would have thought that stickers would peel off/look tatty after time.

Fit all hardware before finishing.That way you know that everything will fit,and there will be less chance of screwing up the finish with the slip of a screwdriver or something on assembly.

IMO nitro feels better than poly,looks better and wears better.The fingerboard is rolled which feels better.The bodies are a bit thinner as are the Affinity Squiers that ive seen,which makes them a bit lighter and a bit more comfortable.Recipe for success in my book,but i agree that the price is too high.

Ive got a P with a Jazz neck.

I had a similar problem years ago,the E-A half of the pickup had called it a day,making the E string weak,but the D-G half was still working ok and was still making the A string loud enough.
You could swap the 2 halves of the pickup around to see if the volume loss transfers to the G. -
