1. Fender.
2. It is standard Jazz width. P.S,im not so sure about the bridge now, would there have been an 8 string bridge about in the 80's with individual saddles ?
3. Im the one thats having a crisis,i've just been given it.Rob some bits off it and bung it in the cupboard of no return.
4. Guilty as charged, except for the Expensive bit.
5. Try as many as you can.It may be the one that you least expect. Take your time. Ignore brand/shape. Do'nt buy with a view to modding it to make it "the one". The one will find you.
6. My strings on my main bass have been on for,oh,8 or 9 years, would wearing gloves make them last longer ?
7. IMO,a beter way to tell if there is any difference would be to play a bass with no finish, then play after it has been finished. That way there would be no filler/sanding sealer.
8.
Band 1 seems to have some songs in it...you'd need a good vocalist to cover some of them.
We think so.

10. One of the fender short scales had a Strat pickup in it,did it not ?
11. Im guessing Dimarzio for the neck and Jazz pickups.Very few of the pole pieces line up with the strings,so it should IMO sound unballanced, but it doesnt, the sound is massive on each of the pickups.
12. Yup,for some reason the sound is even accross all 4 strings.
13. The guitar pickup actually sounds ok.The nut can be replaced. It intonates too.Im sure that the bridge is a replacement. The bass will never be for sale,(dont ask me why,i dont know) wether it belonged to Saxon or not. I think that the whole concept of it is wrong, but it has a massive array of tones and plays well strung up as a 4,but god knows what it would be like as an 8 with that narrow spacing.
14. This bass belongs to the singer in our band,it was allegedly built for the band Saxon. It is through-neck,Jazz width with Flying V headstock with Schaller machine heads. The body is slab construction.Im assuming that the bridge pickup has been replaced at some point as has the nut.All the electrics work apart from one mini toggle switch.Im assuming that the mini toggles are coil taps ? The bridge is adjustable for each string.IMO the neck has been shaved down, and the neck has twisted (although its still perfectly playable)because of this. The weight, almost 13lb. Im guessing the early 80's as a date. Any info on this,or a pic of it in use with Saxon,if it was indeed used by them would be great.
15. Free,Cream,Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac,Chicken Shack,SRV.
16. See...........it pays to try all price ranges in the shops.Brand snobbery can be an expensive waste of cash, especially if you're looking for something as basic as a P or J type bass.

18. No,i will be entertained by another old slapper, fnar, fnar.

20. The starter pack SX's are not the same as the JD's.The last SX starter pack bass that i saw looked like it was made out of ply, while it was nicely finished,it just looked a lot cheaper made than the others that i have seen. JD has/had a website but i can't find it at the moment. The JD's that i have seen all had the vintage tint laquer on the neck too, while the starter pack SX's looked like something that was made for IKEA.
21. I have a JD Stingray thing, looks good, passive, plays really well, sounds ok,and the neck is very stable.I have tried a couple of P type JD's and really liked them.I think they retail new for £135 ish, certainly better than the cheaper Squiers IMO,and the ones that i have seen recently still have the correct headstock shape. They are the same apart from the name transfer.
22. Jim Deacon basses. They do'nt have the full range, but they are SX,as far as im aware.

24. My DBS is very loud,i have the 1x15-2x10 @4 ohms,and the 1x15 @ 8 ohms.I use the 1x15 for quiter gigs,as it halves the power.
