  1. From what i remember, pickups that are designed from the factory to be used with a preamp usually have a lower output than pickups designed with passive electronics. The active preamp boosts the output, so the pickups can be wound with less output. Basses with passive electronics tend to have higher output because there's no active preamp to boost them. That could be total BS though
  2. I had a Gen 1 S7, and loved it for a while ( new bass excitement ) but after a while, i couldn't get the tone i wanted out of it. Couldn't say whether it was pups or preamp , but i'm leaning towards the preamp. It was moved, anyways
  3. I see Jesus Message incoming..
  4. Helluva tool ya got there Andy
  5. Big fan of TT here. Its My Life and Colour Of Spring have sat in my collection since around '87. Unique band, almost un-pigeonholable. Hollis was a fab song writer and one of the most easily recognisable voices in music. Very sad
  6. Indeed it is, but he's willing to take offers, so it may not even go for the start price. I think someone would have a bid on it. How much is the pickup, assuming they can still be bought ?
  7. @Andyjr1515 Andy is working with Sapele right now - so Andy, can you stand the smell - what are we talking here...rotten eggs ?
  8. Humble, compared to some of the Apollo flight desks here
  9. Its like watching Merlin Carry on sah ..
  10. Great info Phil, cheers. yes i'm the same with the EQ on my amp and previous amps. I dont boost 50hz or below
  11. Oooh i've done that at home a few times. Bound to happen at a gig at some point
  12. I know it was mentioned long ago in this thread but curiosity has me asking. Since there aren't many commercial cabs that tune to 30hz ( if any ? ), how to 5 strings players cope with that B string, which is what - 31hz - ish ?
  13. Nah, not happening
  14. That effing strap twist alway gets me. I swear there's a strap consipracy going on, and the strap knows it winds me up. It's not like it's just one strap, either. I have around 4 and the cunning bustards all do it. Like bungee cords that always manage to hit you in the bluddy face, the strap twists out of sheer bluddy mindedness. Accidently kicking the muthas down the stairs doesnt help at all. They're so light they just shake it off. I may take my Black & Decker heat gun to the next one and see how it likes that bad boy
  15. Gotta agree with the consensus here. You did a great thing by playing at last years festy, and animals, like children, always need our help, so big back pat for that. Forget the poster. Its just getting you in a frazzle over not much at all. You can do better and more important things with your time
  16. Yup, just buy buy buy, wrap in plastic, stick it in the loft. Take it down when you fancy a look and wonder why you bought it
  17. Very innovative Bat thinking goodman
  18. I have an auto too, just chopped it in for a manual and it made no difference to me, as i still brake with my right foot, manual or auto
  19. Sometimes i surprise myself
  20. Nice , very nice I'm starting to take practice shots at my piggybank with my hobnail boot
  21. I've tried playing the wrong way round, and the feel and touch is non existant. They might as well be someone else's arms. Try driving your car and braking with the other foot from one you normally use. On a stranger note, my pal plays right hand basses turned round for a left handed player, but leaves the strings as they are, so E is at the bottom.
  22. All looking good chief. Its poodling along nicely
  23. Yeehar ! Job done
