  1. I reckon then, that i'll stick to the TE era SMX , but hopefully waiting for someone with a fubarred combo / speaker and willing to part with the amp
  2. I'm in the Arai SB club, well i used to be. Had the SB 600, open book headstock, ( as opposed to the Batwing ) and it was a set neck, single pickup. Lovely to play if you like slim necks ( and boy are they slim ) and 16.5mm string spacing, which i adored. The only trouble with it, from a personal taste POV, was the lack of mids. I think the single pup was in the wrong position, but thats just my opinion. I would certainly like to own the SB 900, which did have the twin pups.
  3. PS you said the SMX were hybrids - i think they may have a valve stage or something ? Not sure how much difference 1 valve will make, though owners could correct me on that. I know the GP11 Mk V i have here at home has a fab tone, and i suppose i could steal the amp from that and rack it, but it would be a shame to dismantle such a vintage beast
  4. I suppose you're right in that its lasted this long so its ok, but i'm not so much a fan of Gibson TBH, so will stick to pre Gibbo As for the outboard compressor, i used to have one, and great they are too, but dont want to add yet more gear - but thanks for the offer MB I've already got the graphic / pre shape original TE footswitch , which is enough add ons for me
  5. Good info MB - ta I think i'd be looking more for the SMX range, pre Gibson, so i'll leave that one above alone
  6. Just found a GP12 , ( with no SM/C/X invloved ) with a dual compressor - is this a bit rare, then ?
  7. So MBA was right and handy info, ta chaps. Now need to find out if anyone has pulled an smx amp from a combo and whether it fits 19" racks
  8. Bizarre - looks like there was a tie when i checked, between Mornats and Rikki with 7 votes each
  9. Dont fret over 300 watt or 500 watt. You'll barely hear the difference, all things being equal.
  10. Glad to see you haven't lopped an arm off with that router yet. I only used it once and it scared the pants off me. I reckon you're going great guns. keep it up. Measure 4 times and cut 3.
  11. I should have said ' shape up ' I've lost the ability to type the English language
  12. Oooh - outsider !!! Burn the witch
  13. That's about as diplomatic as you can be. If they don't up shape after that, have it away on your Nikes
  14. I confess that i was actually born in Barking hospital, but the paradise that is Dagenham was where my parents lived at the time. I worked in Hornchurch in my early days of working, and Romford. And then started the outward trajectory that you speak of. I got a lot further than you, as you can see So i win
  15. Tiny That school is long gone. I think it closed about 2 years after i left as a secondary modern and re-opened as a Catholic school Where's your stomping ground in Costa Del Essex, H ?
  16. Indeed H, they were. I also did my secondary schooling at South Ockendon
  17. Can you guys or gals give me some info on which model TE heads have the dual band compressor fitted ? In fact, i 'm thinking of combos more than stand alone heads, as i'm contemplating seeing if i can find a TE amp / Pre pulled from a combo. I'm also hoping that that any head ( stand alone or pulled from a combo ) will fit a standard 19" , but shallow rack case. I'm sure the 2 piece vintage combo amps would be ok in a shallow rack, as i've dismantled my own GP11 Mk V and seen that the pre and amp, although separate, dont really take up much room front to back when squeezed together
  18. My old man worked at the Dagenham plant pretty much all of his life, ( wasn't that the biggest factory in Europe at the time ? ) till we moved near to Purfleet, then he transferred to what was then the AVO plant at Ockendon - Advanced Vehicle Operations, where i think all the old Escort Mexicos were fettled
  19. Was it ? Jeeez , i need to go to Specsavers. I thought it was a TE footswitch. Still, the photo was tiny, in my defence
  20. Original shape 80's Overwater Standard , single Bill Lawrence pickup
