  1. Cheers HRH Yep, bottom end is where i roll. And so does this cab. It doesnt buzz or vibrate, and with the crackle gone, we have a winner ! Buy yourself a pint and i'll send Speckled Jim over with a £5 note
  2. TVM Its getting a workout as i've got Art Garfunkel , John Martyn , Vaya Con Dios and other tracks to learn
  3. Bingo - tried it outside cab first No scratchy, no crackly. What is all that about then ? I can only think that the basket was slightly twisted due to uneven torquing of retaining bolts. But whatever it was, its gone. Cab sounds very clean, with a hint of warm, even down to big flappy E on a EUB. No farty, no boomy. Its probably a 50 Lb + cab, but i can live with that.
  4. Throw 'em in the bin. 5+ are the spawn of the devil
  5. Ok, i'll stuff it back in the cab, but rotate it 180 degrees, and then do a proper torque sequence as mr spondon noted and see how things go
  6. PS chaps - thanks to all for chipping in quickly at this late hour. Appreciated muchly
  7. Right chaps - did the cup method, couldn't hear much, maybe a slight whoosh, but nothing like the scraping heard before. Took the driver out, checked for obvious splits / damage / damage to thin coil wires, and all ok. Tried the cup method again and .... silence ??
  8. I'll whip the driver out next and check those. I know a new driver from BA is about £118 , but for a repair, when you factor in postage each way for a 17 LB + driver , then repairs, i cannot see this as being economical
  9. Thanks chaps - will have another go using the cup method. I did a bit of googling too, and someone mentioned that a possibility was torquing the driver mount bolts in an ueven fashion, slightly warping the basket. Any ideas on that ?
  10. A lot of this is out of my comfort zone, so maybe another driver is the only way
  11. The 6 o'clock thing - If you look at the cab face on, then i was pressing at several points on what could be called ' the clock face ' EG I pressed the driver at the top as you're looking at it - say 12 o'clock - and then at other points on a so called clock face , 3 , 6 , 9 So, the scraping noise was at the bottom of the driver at about the 6 o'clock position Is the magnet accesible to re-position ? What is the coating on the copper wire - can that be re-coated ? The Fane driver was bought from someone on here, and it never saw a gig with me, because i was either gigging my 2 Beyma 2x10 cabs or my 2 markbass cabs, and i've never dropped it either. I live in a flat, with people below me, so its never been louder than practice volume when it was in the massive Peavey cab. So someone has sold me a duff speaker
  12. Just had a look at the speakon connection wiring - its fine Then did the silent push on the driver, no amp I thought it was silent, till i got to about 6 o'clock position, and there's a loud scraping. No scraping sound anywhere else ( 9 o'clock - 12 , or 3 ) What do you think that is then Stevie ? Only making a scraping noise at 6 - its not a whisper either
  13. I've hooked up the amp to one of my Beyma 2x10's, and using the same speakon cables, and guitar leads, the crackle has gone. I think the only conclusion then, is that the problem is the Fane driver. One thing i need to check is both speakon screw terminals to make sure the wiring is solid, but i'm doubtful that's the problem
  14. Havent dismantled and de-soldered the driver from the cab , so i may need to do this at some point
  15. I did what they tried in that AV thread already - see my post above
  16. The amp is about 6 weeks old - i guess it still could be that, but i doubt it
  17. I couldn't be sure because it rattled everything in my lounge so bad, the rattling could have covered up the noise of crackles
  18. Oh dear - Long crackle on a lot of notes. Worse on the E and A fretted or open , a lot less on D and G 1) amp has 2 channels. Only using one at a time as its a single cab. Changed channels, no help 1a) Also changed EQ, various changes, Comp on and off etc. No help 2) cab has 2 speakons. Swapped speakons. No help 3) Changed speakon cable and then did the above again, swapping channels, then cab speakons. No help 4) changed guitar leads twice, no help 5) used my wireless XVIVE's . No help 6) Isolated amp from cab and isolated cab from floor. No help 7) Took grill off, played open E and open A, and put both hands on the driver ( cone and beyond cone ). No help. 8) Changed basses - no help Isn't looking good
  19. I've also visited the website and seen those multitude of SOLD basses. It would be much more user friendly to have all SOLD basses in their own section
  20. Definately does Dave. And powered by a Mega
  21. Stevie and i were messing around. The cab was actually upside down at the time, as i was working on the underneath. But even with the cab the right way up, you can have the space for your knuckles when gripping the handle, either facing up or down
  22. Yeah they do. But if they were the other way round, its slightly more cramped to get a grip. I checked this before. You find that you need the most space below the handle for your knuckles
  23. Money shots - oi , stop dribbling at the back Some side action Some rear action , matron. Yes i stuck another badge on the rear. Had some perspex i didnt know what to do with Some front action And a close up ( sounding like a porn movie ? ) of the flash SS cups under the grill screws. Oh yes. Come to daddy
