Is ' hide ' the same as ' delete ' ?

Not a bug ( or maybe it is ? ) but someone sent me a message, but it was not in my message inbox. A kind of sticky note appeared and i didnt get to read it, because i had a PM at the same time. The weird note disappeared while i was reading a PM, and it never came back
