1.
. . Cricket ground? OK, but now back on topic: . . .
Kinda spooky you mention the band Egg. 2 of my friends were both members of that band at different times, and i also have their first 2 CD's, which were Albumen and Travelator. I've also jammed with the Scott brothers who were founding members of Egg
2. I've already got bits here Terry, so i just need to google ' template router bit ' Seems to me you either need a bit with a movable bearing that followes the template, ( and obviously you move the bearing up the shaft as you need to go deeper - hope thats right ? ) or one that has a shaft the same size as the cutting flutes, so the shaft can butt up against the template I could be wrong , of course
3. I've yet to ask anyone which type of router bits to use
4. Well if Damien Hurst can sell utter sheeite, why not i say
5. Ah ! Well, dont let me near one then, because chances are, i'd melt the thing into a pool of liquid. Delicate is not my middle name
6.
Or you could just use a MAP gas gun to flame polish the edges.
Over my head bert What's a map gun ?
7.
another option (that i use for smaller cuts) is a manual coping saw, it takes time but less likely to get melting or splintering, masking tape both sides is always a good idea, leave the protective plastic on as well. for finishing the edges was taught to start with a fine file, then go through the grades of wet+dry paper (used wet) up to about 1500 grit, then brasso for a final polish, you can get it super smooth and transparent this way. we made keyrings using this method at school, then i used the same method for the perspex top of a hifi stand i made as my GCSE project (far too long ago!) Matt
template, Do the insides of the pickup rout template need polishing ? Sounds very finicky for just a template, Matt
8. Lost our voxist due to overbearing and demanding wife. Then other guys lost heart after 6 years of moody prima donna singers and / or wives pulling the plug, yet again. I'm now scratching in the corn for some mature ( say 45+ ish ) time served / gig experienced bands. I've managed 30 years + gigging and have solid decent gear and rig setup. Fretted and fretless bass and of course the obligatory bass players wagonette for haulage purposes Would love to work with decent keys, synth and sax , perhaps non slap funk ( i cant stand slap, sorry ) or jazzy blues, but mostly groove orientated stuff, rather than guitar widdling rock No baggage ( wife / kids ) so free to rehearse and gig pretty much anytime Mine's a double Jack D - ta
9. Thanks T - though i;m still thinking bertiebass. I seem to be somewhat hamfisted with delicate work
10. Oh hell. I read too slow and it chips, too fast and it melts. I'm thinking Bertbass already - cheers Mick The perspex is on its way so i wonder if i can send that bit of sheet to bertie with some measurements ??
11. Peeps I'm having to make templates for pickup and rear cavity routs, and i decided i want perspex. Trouble is, my memory of cutting perspex a few years ago resulted in it sort of melting back together behind the cut. I was using a jigasw and fine blade. Is there better way to get a clean cut - maybe something like a sharp stanley knife and making lots of cuts over and over again or is this likely to take days ? 5mm Perspex / acrylic is not cheap to practice on so i need to do it once
12. Or the other way round when selling and you get a message to say 'i'll have that ' and that's the last you hear
13. No, he was the walrus. Try to keep up
14. Been there and done it. I couldn't agree more
15. Blimey guv, you would have thought EB would have hurled an MM at the public
16. Did they not bring out a few different models ? MM, Jazz, etc ?
17. A 35" scale axe would almost solve any flappy B tuned string on a 4 banger
18. Every ' flea ' bass replica i've ever seen has never piqued any interest with moi Then again, i don't even like his style or tone. I like the guy himself though
19. If anyone watched Howard Goodall's program last night on the making of Pep ( composer of Blackadder title track and much more ) , it was fabulous watching him breakdown the way the Peps tracks were constructed, and just what incredible work and genius those guys used to magic them tracks out of thin air. Even ' within you ' whether you like it or not I have even more respect for their musical prowess than i used to
20. Saw JT just as Glascock joined Tull. A monster band for sure. I was more of a Cornick fan, but but hey, the list of good musos that have played in JT is pretty damn good. I even had Glen Cornick buy a bass neck from me on Ebay, though he lived in California at the time. He sent one of Tull's drummers over to collect it. That was Clive Bunker.
21. Of course, once you've got one, its best to get another
22. NOW £225 + POSTAGE IF REQUIRED
23. PS Check Saunders web page - great bass http://www.tonysaunders.com/
