1.
Used Transferwise (was sceptical at first) and it was as easy as a bank transfer but way cheaper than bank charges.
I can concur. I bought an amp from Germany, and they insisted on Euros. Paypal fees or bank charges totted up to around £30 -ish Transferwise charges amounted to £2.50. The problem was getting the german company to accept that as payment. They did in the end, but they must have figured that they might get scammed, because they hadn't heard of Transferwise Anyway, i'd use them again at the drop of a hat
2. How do you know they were exaggerated - were you there at the time ? Just because those negative experiences don't tally with your positive one, doesn't mean anyone is making it sound worse than it is You can get good and bad in dealing with ANY business in life, not just music shops. That's life
3. Ah, wtf, have a taste Gong - Espresso from Gazeuse !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuMEhD4P8PY Floppy Hat from Velvet Darkness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mSL0Zy2i3o&index=2&list=PLWFXsGz50Kq349oDTwYFxIZtt_PU17PdM Gattox from Velvet Darkness ( gattox is pisstake of the word gateaux ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP04AiRv8N0&index=8&list=PLWFXsGz50Kq349oDTwYFxIZtt_PU17PdM
4. Check out solo album Velvet Darkness and Gong album Gazeuse ! These feature brilliant work by Allan First got wind of AH from his '76 album Velvet Darkness, and loved his work. The Gong album Gazeuse ! features more stunning work I got to see him in the early 80's at a tiny jazz club in Oxford, with 2 unknown local jazzers on DB and drums. He was famous, but didnt mind playing with these locals at all. He was a very humble man. You could pass him in the street and not know. He looked like a chartered accountant I'm gutted
5. Just bought a concrete TE cab from M the G. Met the dog ( ultra cute ) drank the coffee ( wet n warm ) ate the cookies ( tasty ) and have now met The Greek connection ( cool dude ) A good day
6. Damn, someone got a post in between I would never just take a bass off the wall without asking, but it was posted that way
7. So in these shops, if you like a bass that's for sale on the wall, you have to buy it, then you can try it out ? That kinda of defeats the idea of bothering to have a shop, surely ? All they need is a website and a warehouse
8. Its not a big deal whether you do or don't. There are much worse things But its a bit on the sad side. Like sweeping dust under your own carpet and telling yourself your house is clean But live and let livery , as someone said ( brilliant )
9. Did someone mention that BD wont let you take a bass from the wall to try out ? Eh ? So you have to gauge how much you like or dislike the plank by staring at it ?
10. Down the centre to anchor the string, then enough spare for 2 / 3 winds Job done
11. Suede on the inside is great for non sliding around I have one myself, but i prefer one's that slide
12. Yup, same here. Just gave up on the strings. I even tried to order a pair of pickups and preamp, a bit later, but there's not enough info on specifications, and some info on there on these items is confusing I tried to get clarification, and i ended up getting nowhere. I gave up and bought Aguilar Soap Bars and Noll preamp
13. After full charge, about 31/2 or 4 hours. Enough for any gig really. Turn off between sets though
14. I managed to order Status black nylon flats on the Status webby, only to get an email sometime later to say they stopped having them made, and they dont know how i managed to order them. I got told to refresh my browser ? How can that be the problem They didnt take any money, but did say they would let me know when they're back in. That was 4 months ago I suspect if i was ordering a £3000 MK graphite wonder plank, the communication would have been more forthcoming
15. Think of your own font, then get two Gibson decals made up. You've every right to call your handbuilt boutique basses Gibsons. Then you can fall asleep after gigs explaining to the pedantic nerds who point out that your bass isn't a Gibson. Laugh a minute
16. B side to Hell Raiser anyone ? Cracking ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0hG3Gib-Is
17. Yup, still using mine. Still no problems, and mine runs through an ABY switch, tuner, micro thump, BSW, Flange, Chorus,
18. Here's one that i would give a miss. Funk/ jazz bass player yo Joabmelon Tuesday 4 Apr 2017, 5:58pm So hi there. Imma bass player lookin fo sum future soul/funk/jazz like ting. I've bean plaiing base 4 ruffly 3 yerrs an I've been in 2 bands in dat time. I'm currently still in a band-like thing wit my sister who plays keyboard and produces her own choonez (her name's Theo laird look er up on soundcloud shes really Gud!!). Hailing from the city area, I wouldn't be overly interested in travelling outside due to the fact that I am 16 and consequently cannot drive. I have a four string fretted bass although I'm looking to invest In a 5 string. I take influence from bassists such as jaco pastorius and Stanley clark. I do also enjoy electronic music/ bands like that of Klaus Johann Grobe and also progressive rock such as man and birdmen. Although I primarily like that typical cheesy 80s funk, I can and Will play jazz if needed and can fit into most styles (I am a music snob however so I won't be playing indie or heavy rock tank ya veri mooch!!) Oh yes and (for those who stuck around) I can also play the saxophone to a considerably high level and will happily disrobe the ol pipe if need be. So thas aboot it!! I luuk 4ward to a repliii!! From your brother, sister, uncle, mother, father and creepy 4th cousin... JOEY
19. A video is definately the way to go, though a lack of one wouldn't turn me away. Just like an imperfect ad wouldn't. Of course, there's always those that do. When i see ads starting " hey, wot u doin - wear a kickass gr8 band .. " etc etc If it looks like it's from a hoody infested council estate, i'm out. No offence to hoody infested council estates, before the letters roll in
20. Posting a vid or tracks online would go a long way to helping prospective applicants to make a decision. This would be much better than just an ad
21. Well, thats my point. If you only judge what you read, you might miss out on a face to face...there could be an excellent band in there Yes, i see that most have to make a call on on ad, especially if its some distance away to meet the band, but is it possible that these bands could be excellent / great musicians but a tad lacking in the ad posting dept. ? How would you know if you only judged them on the ad ?
