  1. Yes i see the bridge is not original , as bridge pup is not that close to the bridge on the 900 But the measurement from the 12th fret will be accurate
  2. A good suggestion , but i dont think that's for me
  3. I can only repeat - use the 715x It may not have the 12 band EQ or dual compressor of my SMX, but if you cant get a suitable tone out of a TE, you need to see a specialist
  4. Just because, here's the other 2 colours Peavey issued for that model I think the dark one is called T-Black, though it was really some kind of nice burgundy/brown. Cant remember what they called the light red model. It'll be on the web somewhere.
  5. I've owned a couple myself. One In that colour too. The other was a dark finish Wonderful bass. This was one of mine and a sound sample
  6. That's a fine looking axe. Maybe thats the sweet spot, but tone is personal so it wont be the sweet spot for everyone, but i'm kind of thinking somewhere there abouts.
  7. Pino is not really on my list for fave fretless players, tone wise ( so sorry Pino fans ) but neither is Jaco. For tone, i love this guys sound on a ( is it a Zon ? ) Del Palmer ex Kate Bush band but maybe tricky to emulate because the Zon doesnt use a regular pickup Del said in an interview that he wished he'd done the original recording on a fretless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ-9TWI-UAk
  8. In my head, i've always thought, rightly or wrongly, that it's hard to EQ out the growl from a pickup so close to the bridge, and a bit of the loss of low end, but happy to be corrected on that
  9. Good points . I too used to have the SB 900, but cannot recall the distance
  10. I tend to move about like most people depending on the tone i want, sometimes near the bridge, then further up.
  11. A second hand ESP LTD is a pretty good purchase. This is the new price .. https://www.thomann.de/gb/esp_ltd_b204sm_fl_natural_satin.htm I had that exact model in the past. Sold it here for under 300 quid. And this is what it sounds like :
  12. Thanks - that's a useful measurement
  13. The positions are almost endless. Anything from an MM position, Precision, and the Greek's Citron way up away from the bridge, and anything inbetween all of them I originally thought MM position, but having others post their opinions has made me think. Glad i asked
  14. I remember that bass , awesome thing. I hadnt contemplated mounting the pickup that far forward though
  15. Awesome - thanks !
  16. What distance was that from the bridge ?
  17. Just for simplicty, i'm contemplating just leaving the soapbar in Series
  18. Yes that would be a consideration i hadnt thought of. I may just leave it in series
  19. That's exactly my question - how far from the bridge. It's a soapbar though, not MM
  20. You'd be wise to edit your post and remove your contact details. This is a public forum so anyone can see it. Private message Pete instead
  21. Bretheren, i'd like some opinions on where you lowlife comrades would place a single pickup on a fretless bass body. I understand this is as much subjective as anything else to do with basses, because it's personal, so there is no wrong opinion. All opinions are valid. It's a coil tappable humbucker, but whether i tap it, i dont know yet. Leccies will be passive, Vol , Tone, 6 position Varitone. ( well, 5 as 1 is bypass ) If it makes a difference to opinions, it's 34" scale Let me ave 'em
  22. And so it goes on - bar stewards. Useless Parcel Service.
  23. I'm not gutted we had to sack the scounging croaking lazy tightwad. Sister's nice though.
  24. Where do you hang the anal papyrus roll ?
  25. If Carlsberg Stradivarius made basses, they'd probably be the best basses in the world.
