The lakland 55-02 was pretty good with barts, but the new lakland pickups and pre are fantastic! certainly worth considering if you're looking for the best of both worlds. I sold an SR5 to get a DJ5, both have great low B's- as does my new roscoe beck 5. The DJ5 neck is one of the best I've played, slightly shallower than fender's 5 string offerings but not too much- the bass set up really easily with a nice low action aswell. I really like SR5's but they feel quite different due to the string spacing mainly. GAK in Brighton now stock Lakland aswell as Musicman, a good place to try both out if you're near.
I was watching that all week. Unfortunately went out and bought a leather jacket in the morning so that scuppered the bass fund
I've been after one for a while and managed to shift my jazz within about an hour- picking it up on weds ;D
b seems to sound lovely, but the bridge is interesting, with those possibly troublesome grooves...
The grooves are present on all usa series basses afaik and have been for a while, it's handy if you want to adjust the string spacing slightly
I wonder from whom you've heard that, and if they've actually played one? As much as I try to avoid getting sucked into the 'Fender worship' vat of despair... I cannot see Fender releasing a lemon! Nice bit of playing BTW....
Fender, Lemons? maybe not but my old usa jazz deluxe 5 had a less than satisfactory low B- although it was an excellent bass.

indeed- I'd heard reports that the B wasn't all that good- that sounded great

Well- I've had this bass a good while now and it's excellent, but I'm still a jazz bass man at heart and am going to pursue getting a nice jazz 5. Stingray 5 HH - Black finish and guard, maple neck- Includes the original hardcase In great condition, It's always transported in my incase tourbag so has been well protected. I'm pretty sure there are no knocks at all on it (will confirm tonight) but some of the pickup pole pieces are a tad tarnished. I'm after £850 in a trade for a Jazz 5 string of some description- outlined below. Lakland DJ5 Lakland Joe Osborn 5 Fender Marcus miller 5 Sandberg Jazz 5 Fender Custom classic 5 Fender Roscoe beck 5 Sadowsky 5 Assuming I get this sorted, my 75 reissue jazz will be for sale/trade afterwards- I may be interested in trading both for something really nice. I'll get some better pics asap. I'm based in Brighton Russ

I'm finding this quite interesting- I was under the impression most people used 45-105 (125 or 130 B for 5s) but it doesn't seem to be the case. I'd been using 40-100/125 for years, almost since I started playing- I've only recently changed both my basses to 45-105/130 and I've found it to make a huge difference. Set up with a pretty low action I don't really notice needing any extra effort but the overall tone is far better to my ears and the strings don't buzz out as easily when you get into it and start playing harder ;D I don't slap at all in my current band but do loads at home so both my jazz and SR5 are setup to be slap friendly. I've got roto steels on both at the moment, I remember why I stopped using them in the first place- higher tension than Elites- plus about 1 in 3 sets die really bloody quickly. R

I used one (akai) for about a year- it was great but freaked a bit with the output level of an active bass, I had to be careful and run it after my compressor
You will only regret it, there is only so much 'blame it on the boogie' or suchlike you can handle before you go insane! Keep the Jazz for the next time you dep for me!!!
Hah, that's why I left my last one ;D - I do miss it though, at the time it was my only band, I reckon I'd be ok being in an originals and cover band at the same time apart from the inevitable timetable issues. To be honest Paul, If you asked me to dep again, I'd probably play my SR5 ;D it does a decent enough jazz impression R

I love my CIJ 75RI jazz, it's great- only trouble is, I don't have a gig at the moment where I can get away with a 4 string, I play my SR5 HH 99% of the time I need to get into a functions band again
