I'm a big fan of the markbass cabs- there doesn't seem to be anything on the market that can compete with the 152HR for me 4 ohms, 800w horn smaller and lighter than most 2 8ohm cab setups deeper, punchier and louder than all the 8x10's I tried 32kg only 10kg heavier than my mb2x10 I'm selling the 2x10 btw- had I bought the 2001RB I might have been tempted to keep it! I have the jazz for sale at the moment but I'm considering keeping it now- it's stunning and it doesn't look like I'd be able to get another very easily in the future what with ishibashi not shipping to the uk anymore. I'm gassing for a precision My SR5 HH is stunning- really solid bass with loads of decent tones. I've just gone up to 45-130 strings after using 40-125 for years, it's made quite a difference

Gallien Krueger 1001RBII Markbass 152HR - 4ohms, 800 watts- an utter beast Stingray 5 HH CIJ Fender '75 reissue jazz

I've not played through a better combination than this so far - I've been mulling over the thought of buying this 2x15 for ages, it's stupidly loud, and punchy- it goes WAY lower without a the slightest of winces than any 10" loaded cab I've ever played through and is most definitely a full range cab- really great top end and plenty of clarity. I've not tried it in anger yet (well, not outside of Gak- I did give it some stick!) but have a 4 hour band practice tomorrow- I can't wait ;D And if I'd had more money and went for the 2001RB I'd be in danger of keeping my 2x10 and using this! Bollock shakingly good!

I've tried one of these before but not at length and not with a 5 string stingray. My current band uses programmed electronic drums and I'm finding it bastard difficult getting enough out of my current rig, I really don't want to push my cab too far. I've got a single MB 2x10 which is absolutely fantastic- it's served me well in traditional band setups for years and could take anything I could throw at it. Only trouble is, I'm trying to get such an immense amount of low end which this cab (along with every other cab I've tried at GAK and elsewhere) isn't quite capable of. I spent a good while yesterday trying out different cabs including GK 410 RBH (not bad, expensive) GK 115 RBH (as above) Hartke 810 XL (I think- great sounding cab, really really good) Markbass 410 classic (also excellent) Markbass 810 classic (expensive- sounds a lot like the 410) All the above were excellent sounding cabs but still winced at the amount of low end I'm trying to attain, each one bottomed out. Then I tried the Markbass 152HR - 2x15 + horn, with a GK700RBII - sweet holy f***ing jesus- I think I've found my cab. I actually had to turn the bass DOWN - Huge low end (down to 35hz on paper) - yet massively clear and punchy to an extreme, the only cab that really whacked me in the chest, it made the whole room vibrate but was easily tamed aswell. Plus it's only 50% heavier (an extra 10kg) than my current 2x10. I've been looking around before I shell out that kind of money- but the only thing I can even think of now is the Bergantino 2x15. Has anyone had experience of either the MB 152HR or Berg 2x15 in a regular gigging situation? Any advice would be great. Is there anything else you could recommend I try out or consider? Cheers ;D Russ

It's hard trying to find a good 5-string...
mr_russ replied to Baseballfan1456's topic in Bass Guitars
I've found Stingray 5's to be one of the only readily available 34" scale production basses with a fantastic low B. I spent years trying to find a decent 5 and ended up settling on an SR5 HH. Also- tons of growl available if you want it ;D r -
I'm considering getting a vbc810 - how are they for low end? I'm looking to punish one quite severely with my GK1001RBII and SR5HH, I'm looking for buttock loads of low frequencies with lots of punch.

Keep me in mind if you ever decide to sell that nordy!
hi, there is a bit of an extension as i recall, unfortunately the bass is with flanker at the mo on trial (though it doesn't look like it's quite right for him), and i can't remember how far it goes under - i'll give him a ring and see if he can help us out... just out of interest, why would you want to remove the last two frets? is it to aid slapping? or to reduce weight actually i shouldn't joke - i know mountain bikers who have done worse daf
I don't get on with 24 fret necks when slapping- not that I slap at all in bands but I like to very much when I'm in my bedroom ;D My main bass at the moment is a Stingray 5 HH- Which is an incredible instrument but slapping is slightly hindered by the neck pickup- it's still great to slap on but I love having that extra room on a jazz - even if just for the odd little pop. Cheers ;D Russ
I haven't, but... Constance Redgrave of the Spikedrivers uses an early 60's P tuned BEAD. It sounds great. Have a listen..
Nice- sounds good, might be worth persevering with. If THIS is any good as regards to a low B then I WANT ITS BABIES

Alternatively has anyone tried the new american standard Precision V ? if that low B is any good I'd be seriously interested in getting one r
-
Hi- have any of you tuned your Precision bass BEAD? I'm considering doing this but wondered how either a USA or CIJ Precision handles the low B in particular- obviously I may well need to replace the nut as I'll be using a .130 for the B etc. Anyone had any luck with this? Cheers ;D Russ
I've just bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 215 closed back phones and I have to say they're superb at reproducing the low end through my CD player. Monitoring my playing through the headphone socket on my eden, they give a nice fat round tone. Roughly £30 through amazon.
+1

What ever happen to all of the (bass) heroes ?
mr_russ replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
Also, promise to check out a band called 'Puggy' some amazing playing all round in a pretty wide appeal package - Their live performance was one of the best I've seen in a long time. Try to find their single 'Dubois' -

Hi Guys- after a very large amount of time getting stuff together, my current originals band is ready to start doing fully electric gigs. We're a 3 piece based across the sussex coast and consisting of Vocals/guitar, Bass (me obviously) and Keys/synths. We gave up looking for a drummer long ago and instead have spend an insane amount of time programming drums and recording percussion, we use a roland vs-1824 multitrack recorder to play back anything we don't play live (which isn't that much really) We're looking for some promoters to help us with gigs or other bands with support slots - initially looking within the south east but will be open to anything. Our website is The Doppler Shift Cheers guys- Russ
Thank goodness this isn't a 5 string . This one's a stunner guys and when I saw it the other week , looks as new. Nick.
I'd love a 5 string version of this bass- I don't think they make one though. I'll probably tune this p bass to B though if I can get away with it!
