Hi I've just bought this- I like it a lot but I've just had some awesome news- I've been offered an endorsement deal with Windmill Guitars and will be getting a bass made by them- I only need two basses so this and my marcus miller jazz have to go! Pics up either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I was stupid as I fell in love with this bass and ended up overpaying- I paid £500 but i'm after £425. I'm based just outside of brighton, anyone is welcome to try it out. please email me at- russfcox -at- gmail -dot-- com Russ
I've heard about this basses before, they are quite popular amongst Spanish bass players... I'm also member of the Guitarramania Forum (Spain) and people talk really well about them... If you check Windmill's site Musicians section you'll see this guy: Charlie Moreno, he's got he's own custom model, "Windforce Charlie Moreno". Check his YouTube site and judge the bass (...and the player!) by yourself: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user...egroove&p=r
I've been offered an endorsement deal with Windmill, I'm just in the process of choosing what I'm after bass-wise I'm looking at getting a 5 string jazz built but info on them is thin on the ground r

Hi- I was wondering if anyone here has had any contact with windmill guitars? http://www.windmill-guitars.com/

I had a pair of custom wound jazz 5 string pickups plopped into my old sei jazz, very very nice indeed- thinking about getting a set of 64's for my geddy lee
Hi Russ its Paul, your bro was over Wills the other night saying you were about to pick this up! Sounded like you would never sell it! You all good?
Hi Paul, I'm good mate- you? It's a great bass but I find I use it in passive mode all the time anyways- I've just this sec bought a secondhand geddy lee jazz from Gak, more what I was after really. They're both very similar but I wanted a passive tone control and didn't want to butcher the marcus ;D what are you playing nowadays? still got the sterling? r

This is one hell of a bass- This is a sunburst one and has had the bridge replaced with a 70's reissue bridge- sounds and feels excellent. REDUCED TO £450 passive mode is excellent as is active mode- volume between the two is very close so it's easy to flick the switch over if you want to kick in a bit of a bass boost etc- when used carefully the preamp is brilliant. The bass is light and comfy and has a great neck, better than the Geddy in my opinion. Cheers! Russ russfcox- at -gmail -dot- com
cool, my options are stacking up and I will get back to everyone ASAP. Russ, have you got a HS or HH? Does it really do the jazz bass sound? I need something that will give a deeper sound than a normal ray?
As far as the both pickups on full sound goes- yes, but with a twist- it's clearer and deeper but still very much single coil- check out ed friedland's demo of the 20th anniversary SR5HH on you tube- that vid sums the bass up perfectly. I took one of the pickups in my SR5HH out and they're only dual coil so no chance of a noiseless single pickup single coil mode as with a single pickup SR5 Try one out if you can r
PM sent
I'd seriously recommend you try to find a HH or HS SR5- I reckon that would suit you down to the ground- They do a really good jazz impression, it's proper cross between an SR5 and a Jazz. I had a lakland 55-02 but the SR5 HH does the best of both worlds thing WAY better and in a 34" scale.

'Vintage' stingray copy 5 string- heaviest bass I've even owned yamaha bb404 - not bad, uninspiring Warwick streamer standard single pickup - I loved this bass so much, really wish I could buy it back Warwick corvette proline (wenge neck) - wasn't actually a proline, the bass cellar ripped me off- it was just an ash bodied standard- sh*t bass Fender Jazz 4, sunset orange, maple neck - my first 'proper' bass, traded to flanker in px for a sadowsky 5 Fender usa deluxe jazz 5 - stunning but B was lacking slightly Hohner fretless - crap Jazz copy fretless - heavy Sadowsky tokyo UV70's 5 string - wicked bass MPG Level 5 - wish I still had this Lakland 55-02 - great bass, heavy Shuker jazz 5 - just wasn't me, went back to jon Musicman Stingray 5 1994 - Buying this was a real wake up. Stunning bass, best low B of anything else I've owned- got an ebony fretless board put on, it made a stunning fretless. Sei Jazz 5 - beautiful, what a neck Sei Original 5 - again, beautiful- awesome bass. Musicman Stingray 5 HH - The best bass I've owned so far- I missed my old SR5 so much I bought this. It just works, everything is spot on. Sounds so good recorded and in a band. Marcus Miller Jazz 4 - bloody excellent bass, really enjoying having a jazz 4 again.

after buying a marcus miller 4 i'm well and truly back into jazz basses- I'd love 70's jazz- sunburst, maple neck w/pearl blocks, black s-plate.
21 frets I think innit? 21 on the picture (unless you count the zero fret Just up to the top E? OG
to be honest I haven't counted the frets in the pic- I asked for 22 but i just wanted to see how it would look in general r
LEDs in the neck edge..?
Nah- LED's are a luxury I can't really afford- If I wanted to spend more money It'd go on the electronics first. I'm after a vintage vibe from this- 70's jazz meets SR5 My Sei i'm selling has side LEDs but I'm not that fussed R
Why 22 frets though..?
The neck is largely based on an SR5- profile, frets, neck joint, truss rod, tuners etc- there's something about a stingray 5 that just works and I wanted to take as much of that over to a jazz bass format ;D

Hi- I'm after having john build me a 70's styled jazz 5- I went to beav's graphics to get a mock up done- i'm really impressed with the result- -full size jazz body - 5 string -swamp ash body sunburst finish -bell plate over the neck pickup -ramp in front of the bridge pickup (about 2-3cm until just before the scratchplate) made of swamp ash, finished in keeping with the body - to be adjustable with screws like a dummy pickup. (cheers dood ;D) -black/white/black pickguard w controls like a celinder jazz (attached photo) I've always managed to knock the controls on a normal jazz when playing with a pick. Chrome knobs. -22 fret maple neck -carbon fibre reinforcement -maple fretboard - blocked in pearl and bound in white -headstock as per your new design, 4 over 1 - matching sunburst finish with shuker logo in silver coloured material. full width string retainer like a sadowsky -fender style cloverleaf tuners but with hipshot ultralight gear section (again like a sadowsky) -Stingray 5 neck profile -all chrome hardware -6 bolt neck joint, like an SR5 Nordstrand Big singles pickups Shuker 2 band preamp (bass boost only/treble boost and cut- active/passive switch, series/parallel switch

Nice- there's something about an SR5 and markbass rig- exactly what I've been in love with for a while now ;D

Hi- I was wondering what's under the scratchplate of the marcus miller jazz bass 4 string. My old usa jazz had a big hole under the plate and wondered if this was the case with the mm jazz's. would someone be able to do me a big favour and post a photo or just describe how the control cavity is routed under the scratch/control plate extension. Cheers in advance Russ
This looks good for me . Russ buys the Roscoe and does all the legwork getting it down from up North. He gets bored of it after a year and that way I only have a 20 minute drive to go take it off his hands lol
;D nice- That does seem to be the average lifespan of my basses- It's a bit far for me to travel at the moment, not going to be able to take any time off work for a bit and my weekends are rather full for ages to come. Would love to try it out though -
