  1. Pre amps are defo Glockenklang but latterly they have of course used the Darkglass tone capsule in their Grand Dark bass. That is an option, Glock do a 3 band, Noll electronic have a preamp with a different flavour that fits, you can utilise stacked knobs for these and these are pretty good, of course there are the Aguilar ones. Buckets of options, all have their pluses and minuses - but crucially you have a wonderful bass template for you to tinker with
  2. USB sticks, SD cards etc are cheap as chips these days. He could burn onto them and hand them out. Do you have any way of recording ‘out front’ to check the difference? The mixer will of course what goes into it, but how it sounds out front once bodies are there may well be different once the speakers are blaring - it may help for getting levels right especially if you play the same venues
  3. Not all flats are the same, not all rounds are the same, some flats give you zing, some rounds give you no zing after 15seconds of airing.
  4. Also pick up height - making them a touch lower could take some signal away
  5. Pick or fingers? Fingers with fingernails? playing nearer the bridge or neck? Even before we start talking wholesale EQ changes you can get a lot of difference by altering the above
  6. Most of those SA presets are chaff Again the DG does not do that vast array of sounds, so for that price, yes it needs it. The PSA is a wonderful studio piece of kit which can now be taken more easily on the road, that takes some tech and knowledge to bring that package, so it will cost, and it’s not too unreasonable bearing everything in mind, especially if you are a multi instrument musician.
  7. Beauty is you can store 3 for easy recall, and then only have to remember the 1 more, so it’s actually saving you headspace
  8. Drinking pants and wearing whiskey - a heady life indeed
  9. Go Creamery Pick ups - best out there and british, they have a ‘58, a ‘65 and a ‘14 but within them you can ask for a specific spec and Jaime will wind accordingly. I am not sure they have done a black label P pick up yet for sale separately........
  10. Heard one the other night - Yep they sound nice
  11. Genzler Magellan Darkglass M900 v1 second hand Aguilar TH700 EBS Reidmar 750 GK MB 800 Peavey mini mega Hartke LH1000 (not the lightest) 4 X TE Elf’s and a partridge in a pear tree
  12. Think it’s photos off a tablet but I thought that first!
  13. A little tongue in cheek, but we are pretty much talking about the same thing. Compression we can all agree is not for masking mastery of an instrument or mastery of playing with others, but even masters can have a helping hand. Recorded orchestral music will have an element of compression applied to the sound as well as levels before it is released. If we are talking orchestral music live, yes of course every instrument is not Mic’d up and compressed, but what you have is a piece of musical art where the parts are written for a number of instruments - if you want a heavy string section be it viola, violin, cello etc you have relatively more parts of the instrument you want to bring higher, same across percussion, woodwind, brass. There are of course acoustics of the room and how you play them alongside your music, having performed in the free trade hall in Manchester and then compare it to the new concert hall, with its specialised foundations to allow gentle dampening as teams go back to not affect the sound, all these play a part. The list is endless, and at its best compression is not noticeable, it’s just done enough to balance the force. Am I qualified? Nah, peeps like Si your person, am I an interested audiophile who wants the best balanced sound possible either playing or listening, damn straight
