  1. Change the R7 resistor, add a capacitor to the tone pot, it’s useable!
  2. Yeah that’s about right in a nutshell, but I didn’t really gel with the stock sound anyways. For what ever stuff pedals etc I was using in my chain I felt it lacked subtly to tone shape because it was a bit more brash overall. Personally I think Leo was compensating for his overall and high end hearing loss when winding these pick ups to our back what he couldn’t hear, but if you don’t suffer that, it makes it too much . The L1500 really was fingernails on a blackboard Essentially, craftsmanship great, pick ups and electronics not my bag and lack of ability to easily change the pick ups. Thats my view, I really wanted to keep my ASAT’s which are the same circuit as they were beautiful
  3. For me it’s was the power of the signal hitting anything else you use made it difficult to switch between basses without big changes in any dials as well as the pre amp settings which by default nod towards treble harsh, which you can of course dial down, but goes back to the problem for me of changing basses and settings etc. Well made basses, but in not having regular sized pick ups, taking an excellently made bass and modding it then becomes an issue. I always have felt that if you are someone that is Bass to amp and nowt else - these are great basses. Now with things like the Stomp or a Helix where you can set up a separate patch for each bass it makes it more viable For me, these issues as well as a wealth of options which can be modded one the same price range make it less popular
  4. Even if this is made ‘in jest’ or to make a point it’s neither funny nor appropriate
  5. Good chap this man selling GLWTS
  6. Yep as above, or I use strips of electrical tape and keep applying till it works and is the right width for a snug fit The colour matters not, it’s hidden in the canal of the wood
  7. Axesrus do half decent tuners £8 each
  8. Did a load of research into Lace pick ups - they are minty
  9. Lull T bird if i remember right
  10. Small update, after playing with this for a while. I had some shielding and grounding issues, so did alter things from the actual provided diagram a little (would love to show a picture, but reluctant to open again as it tool me some tinkering to get it right!) but essentially I completed carbon painting in both cavities, copper tape the underside of the Pickguard, screwed a ring terminal into the body with a ground wire, copper tape over it, and ran a line of tape circumferentially around the jazz plate cavity connecting to this, up on to the body Under the bridge, and under the plastic guard around the bridge pick up rout (you see a little flash peeping through where the control plate, pickguard, bridge surround plate meet) and a small strip in the routes cavities too so there is a constant line, and it worked!!! The Stellartone tele jazz plate really is a great piece of kit. The selector switch simply does Neck,Series,Parallel,Bridge and the Tonestyler is like the Duo 6/Bass 6 with 6 positions dialling through a high and mid cut with a maximum capacitance of 0.047uF. At the click of a dial you can go clank to more organic - personally I prefer it either wide open or in position 5, the range of tones will be similar to the excellent review @krispn did with recordings on the bass ten, but obviously less Sub-eeeee in its abilities. I have to say the Seymour Duncan Rickenbacker pick ups are very very good, evidently I have not heard them in a Rickenbacker set up, but having played a rick I think these would do just as good a job if not better in there. The Neck pick up really is quite smooth and you can coax quite a nice fat P sound out of it. I had to use longer screws than supplied and really jack up the pick up on foam in the cavity to get it to a decent height (a point for anyone trying to fit one into a non Ric bass) and deliberately it is the quieter of the 2 pick ups. In series there is a lovely fullness and mid range to the sound pick or fingers and would probably suit those best looking for that more authentic driven sound. In parallel is where it takes off and starts moving towards some real bite and clank, slight volume jump, which could be apparent as it is naturally brighter, but it does bring you forward and more prevalent in the mix. Selecting the bridge, there is no real loss of output, and it’s a very full sounding bridge pick up that does not get too weedy and nasal like, one of the few times I would happily consider bridge pick up alone. Status graphite neck - say no more - probably the best necks out there, and definitely plays it’s part in giving the bass a nod to Ric levels of cut and clank. Big thing to note to anyone popping pick ups from another bass into a bass that it was not meant to be in and in another position - That Schaller 3D bridge is a god send and a massive chunk of metal, being able to get the string spacing to as little as 14mm made this happen, or the E and G were outside the field of play. Yep I am biased, but I’ll enjoy this one, and personally I think a Ric hybrid really works, across multiple genres.
  11. Small update, nowt ground breaking. A friend borrowed my long drill bits and I got impatient, so instead of drilling a hole for the ground wire, I ran some copper tape as a go slower stripe. TI flats with the creamery 58 pick up (it really is amazing) does the job for me. The Allparts neck is fat but fast and playable. Its a very very enjoyable bass and I am looking forward to adding further playing age and wear on to it.
  12. Defo the best choice - only you can tell if it’s for you - let us know, and also save money for the SH1!
  13. I haven’t played one, but it’s based on reading around it and many reviews. Played one of their normal guitars - they weren’t mind blowing
  14. Cool it’ll likely 3 point DPDT switches you need for various configurations Really gods push pull switches are made by Noll Electronics in Germany - you can buy direct from them and it’s cheaper - they are quality - they also do nice pre-amps which are maybe slightly more aggressive. That’s putting into place that Glockenklang are more neutral and Aguilar more vintage - just to give perspective. If you need wiring help, repairs and Tech is a great sub forum amp here where people will help if you have a specific goal, and there are also loads of wiring diagrams on the web
  15. By a lot of reports the Strandberg is not great The Tech21 SH will however be the nuts
  16. If you have an idea what you want they may be able to provide the requisite diagram and let you know what type of switches and pots are needed. also, how is the body? Is it a normal jazz plate rout or is it a blank top with a routed section at the back for electronics? The number of holes you have may well dictate what is possible, unless you don’t mind drilling. Also it’s a good time to get clever with push pull pots and or switches, for example recently with the help of others here I managed to wire a single push pull pot so it was volume only and push or pull for parallel or series for a 2 pick up bass. Sure someone here can help
  17. Haüssel’s usually have a wiring diagram as to what is coming out. You potentially have any row of pole pieces on their own or in combination with each other, series/parallel for any combinations. I suppose technically when selecting individual coils you could have them Vol/vol or Vol/blend. You can also have a kill switch Loads of options
  18. I must agree with you fine fellows, fine bass, fine example of ageing, comfort etc if it’s your thing
  19. Better in every way
  20. Multiwave distortion isn’t bad by any means and it is a pedal with a lot of options, similarly the aftershock is a good pedal. Everyone has their own budget but you will get most Tech21’s between 120-200 second hand, as you will the non Ultra Darkglass pedals. You also have the Valeton Dapper which is essentially a Tech21 Bass fly rig clone and that has a sansamp type circuit, compressor, octave, chorus and tuner in one small package and is pretty good actually - guitar interactive magazine do a good review on it, and that can be found for a good price second hand.
  21. If it’s at guitar guitar you could probably buy it, try it and still return within 14 days. I’d respectfully disagree about the dUg pedal and the ground it covers, I personally think it can cover quite a reasonable territory across genres. You won’t go far wrong Saving for some form of Tech21 - great company, quality gear. It is however really difficult to say which one to go for, we all use/hear/need things different from each other.
  22. @paul_5 I am sure Ronnie must have written Game of Thrones
  23. Ronnie Dio All lyrics sensible and gold dust
  24. @Panos Bobolas wrapping rain and cloud is expensive, I am sure an offer somewhere in the region of the asking price means I could pack the bass, sneak some rain in, and I may even be generous and let you keep the sun
