  1. @Reggaebass just for you
  2. It’s my second, I have a jazz status on a P, now a P on a jazz Also, loving it being mostly black, with the tonestyler it really does sound fantastic
  3. It’s an option, but will be a whole heap more routing/filling - I quite like the idea of pick ups in the wrong bass and position!
  4. https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2015/04/15/solving-bass-hum-problems-grounding-vs-shielding/ yep you are right, I am a dullard - never type a reply whilst pretending to do bedtime, the wrong stuff comes out🤦🏾‍♂️
  5. So.....more tinkering. Picked up a set of seymour Duncan Rickenbacker pick ups, but don’t have a Ric, so what should one do - rout a jazz body and see what happens! Managed to get a USA Fender Highway One body nicely cheap, and an unused status P bass neck (love a status neck!) for a great price, and off we went. In addition I picked up a Stellartone Duo 6 V4 Tonestyler Jazz plate up cheap as well. Disclaimer - I have no routing tools so a combination of a Firsch Forster not, chisels and Dremel did the routing, so it’s not ‘neat’ but it's functional. Also at this stage I have not commissioned a Pickguard to fit as this would be the best thing to cover my sins, but Ashtrays give to me by a friend do a decent job. Now of course, silly me forgot that the Rick pick ups are nearer the neck than the bridge, so of course, the volume drop off on the E and G is noticeable! Just a word for those doing something similar to remember! Options i I thought of were flipping the saddles 180 degrees on the E and G string so the underside is uppermost and that should bring the groove in closer, or get a Schaller 3D Bridge where you can get a string spacing of 14.5mm (this bridge is at about 18mm), fortunately I found a good second hand one so it’s on the way. I am also getting carbon paint for the cavity as it’s a little noisy and the copper tape made it short out. I did have a little play, and you know what, it really works, full, Rich and punchy. Will update when finished
  6. Grounding problem the hum normally goes away when you touch the strings/bridge as you complete the circuit. Sounds like it could be a shielding thing - I hope someone confirms or denies! has it got either carbon paint or copper tape in the cavities?
  7. All the above good advice - DR DDT strings are pretty good at drop tuning as are their Hi Beams which are my current Fave
  8. @Jimothey Spot on, he was a bigger big brother........still is, but I can run faster!
  9. Cheers fella - just the wiring to check and set up to do!
  10. And she is finished - I think a solder has come loose on fixing as only the neck pick up is working! But it sounds mint, minor tinkering only, hope my brother ends up a happy man.....!
  11. Perfect Hohner headless territory this is, small but mighty, and very 80s chic
  12. Whilst not specifically the size the fusion DJ mix bag/workstation range is good to carry an amp and other stuff
  13. @dave_bass5That sandblast is a wicked wicked finish
  14. Not played a 5er but the prototype 4 was banging
  15. I take it that doesn’t count as politics.....?! There will Be filibustering and everything....
  16. It’s not really a discussion on faith, more an observation about how the band was seen and marketed. Seems to me your a fan of both wiki and the band, which album did you like best and fave track on it (it’s only a mild diversion off topic and allowed in discussions, most threads go this way you will find!)
  17. And I think it works in Tech21’s favour, it’s not got the Sansamp tone, and this offers something different
  18. That guy cracks me up, his review is well worth watching
  19. Being a Sig pedal, the mids are centered to the artists preference, but it’s been made tweakable enough for all, and across the threads on TB etc people are using it across all genres. Dood did 2 reviews for I Guitar magazine on it, and if interested, well worth checking out - not for everyone, but is pretty good. The good thing about this thread still is though that it’s an honest appreciation of 2 leading crossover pre-amp pedals out there
  20. It’s not really ‘pushing’ the circuit, each person who has it will have a different value for their mid control, and of course whilst compression is linked to the low end, it will also bring out low mids as well with it, so these 2 dials work bee interactively, and their will be some inherent crossover with the highs and high mids. Maxing the Mid dial produces no further noise, any noise generated will be when you start using chunk and drive on the DP3X, this can be further tempered still with a tone knob. This is all the pedal on its own, you may choose to use it front the amp with further EQ. @Reaper there is plenty in the tank with the shift button as @dannybuoy described which gives it a whole different emphasis and may cause you to dial back the mids DG gives you loads of tweaks with labelled frequencies, yes on the face of it the DP3X May appear more ‘limited’ and the learning curve at the start is long, you have to sit and make minor tweaks , even a couple millimetres at a time to properly rule it in or out, but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to use.
  21. People should start chipping in soon with favourite makes, what’s liked etc. Nothing quite like getting to a music store and trying a few out though
  22. Do you know what kind of covers you are doing? How often is the B string going to be used? If it’s heavy on R&B and pop then yeah it’s a good shout, or maybe something like drop D tuning where you tune the E string to D instead and that can cover some territory, and is really easy especially with a Hipshot D tuner.
  23. Maxing out an EQ is not really an issue, it’s using what there is to the best of its ability. The old Fender tone stack used on amps and pedals at neutral is 2-10-2 bass-mids-Treble but is infinitely musical despite seemingly having no further to go on the mids, and never lacked for presence, so there is stuff available. Aside from all the stuff mentioned here by folk, ultimately the dials are very sensitive, and small tweaks give big changes, so for sure as @krispn says it’s ears not eyes, it doesn’t matter how far the dial is in any direction. I’ve heard the DG pedal in a ‘proper’ demo, it does sound wicked
