  1. Twas a good deal - mine were from a U.K. seller who obviously got them over, so no import Thanks for getting the name correct for me!
  2. @gorandelac I am not playing Motown with flats either, although I would - whole other genres. I just try to match what suits what
  3. There is so much at play here, pick up hotness, tone knob, bass pre amp. As an example the Stellartone Tonestyler can add a bit of ‘grit’ to a tone. I use it with flats, clean for a nice slightly bitey tone for want of better words. Another bass pick ups really likes flats, it just takes its response and I works better clean or dirty. All variations on a theme
  4. Depends on flats - LaBella deep talking bass are a whole different kettle of fish to TI’s. Not all flats are the same just as not all round wounds are the same. Some people will say a fretless is not for metal/rock - plenty of examples of non-ballads using them Clean Amps with an intelligent EQ can bring out what you need. Realistically - to prove it disprove, you would probably have to try out a load for yourself if you want
  5. @Tech21NYC dUg 1000 Ultrabass, footswitch controls clean channel, dirty channel and mix, as well as a mute. Compression on the amp also, second hand clip on tuner Job done Forgot to add - 3 XLR’s out - mixed signal, or drive and clean channel separate so your sound man can have a field day
  6. For anyone’s info The company used to be called Hilimire now known as firestone. Based in the US, but I have had a couple necks from them and they are really nice - absolute glove fit for Fender bodies, use some interesting woods, frets are a little sharp (they state they do not dress them) but that’s easy to fix. And not finished wax/lacquer wise Got both mine off eBay for under £100 - we’ll worth it
  7. Really nice aftermarket neck, I can’t take any plaudits for it apart from spotting it and snapping it up! Get this out the door, get my brother to pay up, recycle the funds for another!
  8. That’s cool buddy, I often mistype and don’t even know what I have written! It’s normally my fault for not typing enough as I am snatching replies between doing stuff
  9. We approach completion, awaiting the Noll electronics stacked Vol/Vol knob - tonestyler Duo6 for the tone knob is in. No electronics in the normal Jag places, they are dummy plates. Once the stacked knob is in, its popping it all together!
  10. Yep, that bits very obvious Guts of your bass to see your jack - less obvious from the outside
  11. TRS = Tip, ring, Sleeve whats your Jack? Mono vs Stereo Get into the guts and find out
  12. Even better! loads of options
  13. Don’t worry about the DI, most of not all desks have an unbalanced channel so they just take it out the 1/4” jack. If you really want, get a cheap passive DI as well, will be smaller
  14. Plus there are loads of tone shapers around, I just mentioned the VXL as You were using Hartke - and it’s bloody brilliant
  15. Not bad that Hartke pedal i picked up for £40-50 - left loads of spending room for Haribo and pork scratchings
  16. Yep you just have to remember flat is 2-10-2 and you are away, some form of pre amp before can always give the mids - great amps
  17. In fact, get their excellent generation 1 Hartke Bass attack pedal and any power amp you want - you have that sound, cheaper and better
  18. Or even the LH 500/1000 if you like Hartke is a little lighter and actually good
  19. Lack of heaviness weight or sound make it useless as even a doorstop. For a similar price bracket I would go a used Quilter bass block or Genzler Mag 350 - the Mag would kick it into touch despite being lower watts.
  20. True, and at times other things in the signal chain but it will give some idea of a different use - even if it was just amp/cab again depending on the cab and voicing of speakers you will also get a different sound, but you notice a definite difference between the clean and when the drive kicks in for a song
  21. Bassist for Kylie at Glastonbury used a Darkglass M900 amp. It’ll be all over iplayer
  22. P getting lost in the mix = a poor pick up or bad EQ. P’s have pretty much been there from the dawn of time
  23. I heard that Markbass employed Mr Magoo to design the aesthetics of their range
  24. Nope That’s the biggest porky of the day Next you’ll be telling me I don’t have a face for radio
  25. Thanks for the invite, if passing and in the area will do, with some notice of course for yourselves, but in all likelihood I am not sure what it will achieve for me personally as I may still prefer another sound as you say, but feel free to do a shout out between other amps with drive channels and maybe the ABM as suggested with a dedicated drive pedal - would be good to hear the results. Make sure its a distinctly average player like me doing the playing though, or everything will sound good, and that's unhelpful
