I am not sure this is a direct battle between it and the Stomp. I think it sits between that and the helix floor unit. If you add the FM3 to the FC6 it works out less than the helix floor unit, plus you get full Axe FX3 functionality, but you can break it back down and make it more modular. Yes it’s expensive, but I think it sits quite nicely between areas, especially if you like Fractal. What is nice is that as a company if you were waiting on the AX8 they have automatically shifted you to this unit (unless you don’t want to), knowing that actually this would replace it and stop the Apple like business model where you buy and then have to buy again

True - I am a massive unit! That bloody extra band on the Preamp causing it probably

Fractal FM3 anyone....?!

Actually Captain that’s highly illogical. If we take Sandberg as an example there are a finite number of variables (in this case pick ups) it will come with from the factory direct or retailer - within that advice is given. It appears you would tell someone “don’t get Delano’s because against my Yammy and Ibby’s pick ups they were too....” the Sandberg’s never come with those pick ups so it’s a pointless argument and not relevant to their options in this scenario. The scenario changes of course if they have a bass and want to change the pick ups. Even then you may not recommend your pick ups you like as they are different in configuration and sizes and that person may not want to rout the bass to accommodate those specific pick ups - of course if they don’t mind routing - it’s open season. And yes pedals, amp, playing style and material played come into it as well. Ultimately that way a logical conclusion can be reached
-
Reason I don’t show people away from a brand is we all play differently and through different rigs - what works for one may not work for another
-
I would say that the comments you will get on things like Sandy’s, black labels, Haüssel etc. will probably because people have specifically sought those out, and hence have known what they want - similar to if you have gone for Creamery, Wizard, EMG, SD, Ulyate, Lindy Fralins, Joe Barden etc. Personally unless they are complete dogs, I wouldn’t move people away from a particular pick up, but that's me. For each of what we have mentioned there will be more for than against or they would be out of business
-
@Al KrowSo I may say the question is have you spent time with The various different pick ups in different models, or sought out sonic comparisons and listened with you mr own ears to make judgement? Why do you prefer black Labels or Haüssel and think they should be standard above old sandberg and Delano’s? Genuine question There is no right or wrong pick up config or manufacturer here - these are all high quality components.
-
Incorrect to a degree - what I was putting across is a way of thinking. Had a bass with Delano’s - nowt wrong with them or the Glock pre - it’s a fine combination. Don’t have it anymore, nothing to do with the bass Or Delano’s being turd (which would probably have been the inevitable incorrect conclusion). Have spent time with Delano’s, Sandberg’s normal and black label, Haüssel, Seymour Duncan’s - P, J, PJ, M etc. Aficionado’s make whatever is in a Berg work - why? Because it does.......
-
Not trying to defend Delano’s but it all depends what you want. For want of a better phrase, if they sit as being ‘neutral’ that’s not a bad thing, especially if you know ‘your sound’ comes from your amp, pedals, coloured cab etc. Its all just magnets, bobbins and wires and sometimes wax - the right combination is out there, or you adapt with other things what you have

That and Ken taylor vastly underrated basses

I’d argue that value for money the Grand Dark is right up their with what’s packed into it

Stock is dictated by how much the shop buys in and it’s policies on selling - they prob have loads of Fenders in stock - doubt its a fire sale They that have paid ‘full fat’ have likely done so in the knowledge of other prices but wanted a specific spec/finish/colour etc. Used ones are great value precisely because of the quality. Yes they take a hit from new to second hand, then it plateaus shame for other quality brands outside of Fender (which is what most people go for) G&L, Schecter, ESP, Yamaha etc. Doubt half the customers are not happy with Delano’s, you have your experience and that’s fine, but I would think it’s a gross over exaggeration. I think most Nordstands I have played have been utter Gash - still a good pick up. There are other options of pick ups available from the manufacturer - may cost you more, but if for example you do a Shuker build course and want to install a pick up he doesn’t normally order/have a deal with - that costs you more as well, or you buy it yourself. Time for Sandberg to up their game.....🤔 constantly tinkering, subtle changes, brilliant QC, innovation about the best customer care you could ever ask for - when a company is emailed and asked where they can buy a tuning peg which broke on their second/third hand Electra (budget range bass) because they dropped the bass - how many Owners of the company would reply personally and send for free. I think other companies need to up their game

The metallic orange is a great colour in the flesh gloss or Matt Good plan on the neck dimensions - they keep a very close track of all their parts and inventory so should be right to match up. Exciting times!!!- 162 replies

So kind of you But no - this is paying forward what others have helped me with. I suggest getting yourself a massive jug of Pimms on this summery day!

I had a nightmare with that too - I ended up using a one of the standard fine jewellers screw driver set normal not even Phillips head and it worked

Shielding May be an issue, but if it goes when touching the bridge or strings that may well be a grounding issue. Believe it or not the shielding will be really easy to do yourself, and you don’t need to disconnect any wires. if you unscrew the pots from the front of the bass (normally just a nut and washer) the pot and wires can be fed back out. You don’t need to unsolder anything and I would probably leave the jack in place. Now you can get some copper tape and line the whole cavity. Regarding the ground wire - there needs to be one from the bridge - if there isn’t one, one is needed, if there is one it may have come loose, so it may take a while to find in the birds nest! That pot at 6 O’clock has a blob of solder but no wire into it from what I can see - that may be the culprit. Sorry I am not near you to help!

Apologies I got mixed up, thought this was an open forum called Basschat, I must have stumbled onto Baschat but if your banter is weak......

Here’s a question for you - what’s the difference between an active bass and a passive bass really, especially considering there may be pre-amps used after the actual bass. Is there much of a difference between a passive bass and external pre-amp and an active bass and internal pre-amp except twiddling knobs on the bass or on a pedal with potentially more powerful parameters? Pretty sure it took myself or another couple chaps I know wiping your nose that a bass you owned worked in both active an passive mode - forgot that now makes you the don on all proceedings active in the bass world Is owning a Yammy bass a pre-requisite to be on the thread? One could argue that although you ‘own’ a lot of stuff, the amount of use it gets you may as well not, so maybe you shouldn’t be on those threads (I love the amount of patches and tips you’ve uploaded to the Future Impact and Helix treads by the way - stellar work) or even considering advice on your myriad of ‘creative’ things. FYI had a fiddle around and helped to repair a Yammy bass recently. Gigging - yep, you gig more than me 👏🏿. I’ll ask your advice on how best to set the EQ flat if I need it. When you stop copy pasting and regurgitating other peoples opinions often incorrectly, and form some of your own that aren’t reading a spec sheet, happy for you to toddle back. Otherwise - yes dear....
