  1. This was back in the old days before Sandberg became my nirvana. The silver one was imported from the states, taking into account the buy cost, postage and tax - I came out even on resale
  2. I have always thought G&L P bass stood aside as a right corker in their stable and the SB1 and 2 vastly underrated. Had an ASAT solid and semi hollow and an L1500 - loves the looks and build quality, but the pick ups were not quite for me and dimensions of them make aftermarket mods difficult
  3. The whole point on that was Fender did not contact Sandberg, they are within their rights to stop sending their product to a distributor if they want, the shop etc can make their own decision on whether or not they want to lose their best selling product. But as @krispn said, the flip side is Hölger saw the opportunity, and ran with it, it’s why he is such a dude, and I think they are better for it. Shame I have the old shapes, but maybe they will be more collectible-who knows? I don’t really care - stonking basses
  4. Any room to parts your own bass together? You’ll defo get exactly what you want then, and if patient can get a mix of second hand and new to give you what you need. I had no prior experience but managed to cobble a couple together that are just right for me. The natural finish one needed me to mend a crack and strip and oil it. Incredible fun. White Bass - USA Fender string through body, status neck, Hipshot Ultralites, Fender HMV bridge, Seymour Duncan APB-1 pick up. Natural Bass - Alder body (I think), cherry neck and Birdseye maple board, ESP bridge, Creamery ‘58 pick ups and Tonestyler pot. Plus a massive bundle of change to spare from your budget even including buying some tools.
  5. Yep - big guys do it all the time. Buy out Hamer etc. And run them down Criminal
  6. No direct contact to Sandberg with threats, but called all distributors and shops that sold Sandberg and Fender and said if you don’t stop selling Sandberg we won’t send you any Fender basses. ‘Gentle’ pressure..... Not as bad as the Warwick owner who will ring up shop floor boys and demand sales numbers for the weeks/days and shout at them if they do not sell enough units, or hoodwink Entwistles son into giving the design authority to them for the buzzard bass and then force status to not use the word buzzard and smash all the moulds, and then produce a horror show of a copy of the bass that is useless for anything except a boat anchor.
  7. Fender being idiots in about 2015 was probably the best thing that happened to them, it forced a slight alteration in shape for like you say the better
  8. Mines older too - but the newers tend also to be light
  9. @fretmeister I had a VS4 full fat exactly as Cam said, it was a dream - sold it with a heavy heart to fund a new bass. It went to a good home and if interested in one I can put you in touch if he wants to sell. I do miss that bass, and it was very light indeed, passive as well
  10. @CameronJ good point, i’ll Take one for the team and call myself a bell End for that-I think I was remembering a second hand price I saw one going for that didn’t have a 3 at the start of the figure... MarloweDK hands down then!
  11. Completely get you - we start then getting into not just the magnet but orientation of it - I couldn’t get on with G&L orientation of their MFD’s and their steel pieces, before we get onto windings. I agree it’s difficult to fault the Glock Pre - I can see how the Delano’s are not to taste and the in house Sandberg be they black label or not would appeal more generally.
  12. You have to remember Alnico’s are just the magnet that is used, Alnico 4, 5 etc. Pole piece size, winding, pre amp it is linked to will all make a difference. So changing out the Glock but with Delano’s May float your boat. Delano’s have Alnico magnets in them
  13. gotta say that between here and the similar one on TB across the water, The MarloweDK and Pino are getting a whole lotta love in the non stupidly expensive category
  14. Good lad! Get ‘em in, get ‘em working
  15. Sandberg MarloweDK (surprise surprise!) Pino Gibson EBO 3 Biggest surprise is not minding one of his videos
  16. Amen to black labels - @fretmeister knows their worth. I got a MarloweDK with old Sandberg’s, A TT with Haüssel, done Delano’s (weirdly you sort of appreciate them when they are gone, or come back to them) and they lay out a great sound to mould as you want, but if I got another Sandy, would be new black labels
  17. Do Thomman do 30 day send back, you could do that? Any which way the above stands about pick ups and electronics which you can easily pop in. I’ve played all the various types Sandberg use pretty much. If interested in them, give me a DM and we can chat more. Get the Bass!!!!
  18. @dave_bass5 are you buying new or is it a ready made from a distributor? The bass, no doubt is the nuts, so well made. Delano pups are anything but polite/tame it’s all about how you use them and the Glockenklang pre-amp is a very good piece of kit indeed, you will pretty much get all you need from them - the tonality between active and passive is exactly the same, but active gives a bit more ‘push’. We all have different tastes but the 2 band EQ is all you need. If you are buying from Sandberg you can ask for the Glockenklang 3 band pre-amp if you wish instead, and also you could get their Black label pick ups inserted instead of the Delano ones. The black labels could be purely passive, or they do Haüssel pick ups which are also brilliant if that is your preference as a special. There is of course the ability to drop any of these in as you wish. You won’t regret it
  19. @Osiris You still cant have the bass tho - too long for ya
  20. I was given a decent little kit made by Tacklife for my birthday - has done all my jobs nicely. I found 350 to be about the optimum level to dial in for these
  21. Agreed And MarloweDK - what a bass - mine will travel to the grave with me
  22. @geohamIMO mojo is whatever you describe it to be, it’s such a loose alternative banded around. The dictionary definition mojo as “A quality that attracts people (or something) to you and makes you successful and full of energy” People going off on a tangent and talking about the natural or unnatural wear of a bass are wrong. This bass makes you feel alive and you want to play it - it has mojo, end of. I completely get it - some things work that on paper should not, but is not paper and a spec sheet - it’s raw materials moulded into something which seem to have gelled into a piece of kit great for you. Look no further unless you have to or want to, or at least don’t sell it to chase a dream, the grass is not always greener
  23. You have to gig it. Its quality - it’s made by sandberg, the pick ups are phenomenal, and it’s über light - so light you could go back to lugging tube amps to make up for lost weight! I don’t slap and this bass made me want to - Bring the Power Back RATM sounds mint on it really happy for you!
  24. Great guy, prompt payment, easy conversation when he bought a Hipshot D tuner off me as I responded to his wanted ad. Would do business again
