That fairy dust is due to the pre amp as well as it’s normal compressor duties based on the Urei 1176 FET compressor I like. Same reason, why I like the Solid State BUS compressor because of its innards as well as it’s compression duties.

Probably with so much processing, amp/cab modelling if you have a ‘known’ element like a Split coil sound you can engineer what you want, that not necessarily lazy processing, it could be quite clever and complex, you could of course reverse engineer or set up different patches for different basses. Or you could do demos like Patrick Hunter and make every pedal and every bass sound exactly the same

Musicman Stingray Classic or Sandberg TM4 Hardcore Aged?!

California is the whole range from P to jazz to PJ (VT) TM, VM, TM2. California II is the new shape brought in in 2015 to move away from the old Fender shape, the black label pick ups are slowly filtering in from more recently, but the old sandberg pick ups are class too, but a little more vintage sounding compared to the others. Some have Haüssel pick ups which are also great, they are more in the custom made models. if you check pictures pre 2015 production and then current, you’ll see what you prefer. Also have a play on the website configurator, I have lost hours making basses! -
Musicman Stingray Classic or Sandberg TM4 Hardcore Aged?!

So the TM.....it’s bloody brilliant!!! Nothing will sound like a Ray, a Ray is a Ray. The TM even with the bridge pick up solo’d will notnsojnd like a Ray, it was not designed too, it’s there to compliment the Neck pick up. Played a TM, Played Grand Dark (actually played most bases in the Sandberg range!) it is a top top top notch bass, and personally I love ageing. If it’s active it’s a Glockenklang pre amp which is very very good. You have the option of Delano picks or Sandbergs new black labels (if it’s a custom bass they would stick what you want in). This new black labels are monster pick ups and I would heartily recommend them. If you want to go brand new then the new Super Light series has hit the U.K. only this past week. It’s made from A cedar bodyC Norwegian Maple fret which is lighter, the whole bass comes in at 2.8kg and is about £1.4k. I think they are at bass direct. I have played the prototype and it blew me away with punch, clarity, sustain and those black labels. You may have guessed I am a massive fan, but honestly if you take finish aside, I haven’t heard 1 person knock a Sandberg, yep some may not love it, but it oozes quality -
This is a mass I minefield, but also great fun! Compression just as Bill said is the key to this. If you want a warm sound, the DG hyperluminal is a good shout. The Super Symmetry sound is warm, the Cali mode - is like the Cali Urei1176, and the BUS mode based on the old solid state compressor is great too, really versatile compressor. There are so many points to change your sound, without touching your board you could changes strings and or pick ups in your bass and it may get you what you want. I dunno what Cabs you have, but coloured cabs may also give you an output or tone you like. I don’t really use the Two Notes for any drive, it’s dialled in pretty clean and is just making the sound a bit bigger if that makes sense. Harrke VXL is a great under rated pedal and can be got for around £50 second hand (first generation) and that also may give you what you want. Another class act is the Tech21 DP3X pedal. It is not like the other sansamp sounding ones in having that prominent mid scoop, it’s different and is a clean EQ, tuner, compressor and drive Channel in one tiny box. You can go ampnor just take it and go straight to the PA, it’s bloody genius, and you can get a real ‘vintage’ type drive tone using its drive channel which can be bright and your tone knob to roll it off.

A P bass, and by that I mean a split coil in the right position, any make/manufacturer will only sound like one. The minute you rout anymore wood out, pop something else in there, it will lose some essence. This is of course IMHO, but if we believe in resonance, altering that surely has to have some form of effect, even before we add in other sonic signals

Ah ok play in the bathroom only then!

Was that with a European power supply or non at all? Did they advertise it as coming with a power supply? Most small pedals I would wager come without power supplies separate.

@Geek99 I can confirm sporran rash on my bass. Its more unique of a model now

@bassmachine2112No bombs from me - I completely get it. I may or may not end up owning one, but enjoyed playing one. TBH it’s a live and let live policy in my world - be original, try combinations, hone your sound and craft to mix with your other instruments, if that’s a Rick or a rickety old Hagstrom - you just have to rock it

Done it on G&L’s and Sandbergs all fine. I actually tuned my Hohner B2 to C and it handled it beautifully, that is an inexpensive quality option, Hell you could get a fiver for less than half the budget

NBD I got this 8 string Schecter and it makes a lot of sound !
Cuzzie replied to grenadillabama's topic in Bass Guitars
You’ll get used to fretting it, just a slight technique alteration as it will be playing the strings be it pick or fingers, it’s loads of fun having a multistring -

@dave_bass5 I have some wooden ones from Thalia, nice, but wear down relatively easily, I can post you one if you want and if I remember! The other one to look at is the Dava pick grip tips - the rubber grip and angling the pick slightly allows you to strike rubber and plastic together to take the click away, or rotate it slightly and use just the rubber part and it gives you a muted string sound, but more Motown. They do a mix pack with Nylon (floppier) and Delrin and another one, I forget. They even do a very thick Delrin. Worth a try. Defo get the grip tip ones (jazz grip tips are even thinner tip and smaller pick) as the other standard rock or metal ones don’t cut it for me. -
Aye, but it were the same fingers on that one, although we never saw his head......
-
@Ricky 4000 yep could be, it may be the whole soup making it stand out as a cocktail, but having spent some time looking at, playing, feeling etc the tactile and density differences of a number of fingerboard materials, having previously been a skeptic it really swayed me to believing when the other parts were equal

So, I’m thinking about a new head, Class D with a valve pre....
Cuzzie replied to Wilco's topic in Amps and Cabs
Clean on the DG is good, but it definitely is more sterile and possibly slightly thinner than others out there. -
For the non believers out there on neck wood not making a difference, there you have it. Maple stands out as different. same applies across the spectrum

Yeah, I kinda went for distortion a little......... Dmt forget the burnt umber pedal is a 2 stage clipping fuzz silicone and germanium. you don’t want to know what else is lurking in the pipeline......it will summon the 4 horse people
