Exactly! Need: strings are dead - need a new set Tone pot on bass becomes crackly and needs replacement aside from cleaning. Amp blows up - need another Realise that compression is key to bass - get one and learn how to use it -

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
Cuzzie replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
The minute rules are set out, people will always flaunt or bend them for their own needs! 2 categories could be easier. Want and Need. Buy/trade only for gear you need in 2019, and do nothing in the want/wouldn’t mind/might be nice category. Allow yourself 1 exception which is named before the year starts if it comes up at a great deal. -
Withdrawn: Mods please close. Fender Short Scale Jazz (Modern Player)
Cuzzie replied to Marc S's topic in Basses For Sale
Pre CBS is more historic, and a landmark in an era. JV squier’s hold a special place as well in their value. In the grand scheme of things holding value, a Chinese made shortscale May not have the same gravitas no matter how well made it is or how few were made, especially with other well made short scales available and more popular now. It is all IMHO as is yours, and I agree sellers prerogative, it’s a nice bass, but I think it’s movement is independent of the festive season. Still though GLWTS- 15 replies

I have to say I have always appreciated her, but never been a fan. Saw her on her recent tour, yes she has a ‘quiet’ voice as opposed to weak, but we all can’t have a foghorn. She was plainly very very very good - show had the right amount of everything, band were good and tight and the bassist uses a Sandberg. Happy days, well deserved IMO

Agreed with above Dont get a Fender Starcaster - complete bollox, mudbucker pick ups are fluffy, look cool but not great.

So to keep it on track I’ll pm you @mcnach

Exactly what I felt, and it’s due to the steel pole pieces, and the rotation of the magnet Leo did to make them higher output. They are often Treble happy basses, probably designed that way as Leo’s hearing and high end hearing went down hill to compensate. Ultimately I had a couple of pre-amp pedals I liked to use to sculpt my sound and all of that energy was too much sonically for my tastes, but on build quality - right up there, as well as options on different neck profiles, don’t just stick to the #12 PJ type config, if you like a skinny neck the #8 is to die for and the #6 ( I think!) is an awesome fat P bass, but still quick and easy to play due to a flat radius.

ASAT is a great bass, I had a solid and semi hollow, electronics are good, but I didn’t get on with the pups

It’ll go fine, no doubt you will be a star, but you would shine with a comp!
-
Indeed it is actually proving the need for compression. Sounds like it is being used correctly, but used correctly it should just sit nicely in the mix, so you think you don’t need it, bin it, then realise what it did so it’s bought back again, as infinitum etc. This is one of the best compressor advocate phrases of you analyse it properly

@Al Krow It doesn’t need to replace those other pedals , it can just sit next to them on the shelf keeping your book ends aligned. So far as the tuner goes, when you get deep into your editing, careful you don’t reassign FS3
