  1. Pretty sure there are transistors in Class A, A/B etc as well as D Then you get the silicone/Germanium etc debate plus which tube you like/prefer. Not sure why the constant debate on audience caring or not comes out to justify or relegate something, always seems nonesensical to me, as you say all of us buy gear we wanna use from the simplest cable, strap upwards, only exception is for a look alike tribute band where you may want to replicate the exact look. Other than that, it’s a meander. Ashdown make time amps, Geezer Butler is awesome with a great sound that suits what he wants to do.
  2. @Woodinblack sensible words from the Bristol massive. Misunderstanidngs in ‘Class Power’ disturb me as well. We all need to play what’s practical and makes good sound/audio sense and a trade off between it all to get what we want. This is from a heavy bass all the way through to heavy equipment.
  3. @Al Krow some people do/did initially think that, some people know already. Some people also mistakenly think class D is sterile.....
  4. Not all class D are sterile, or more sterile. D got it’s letter because it was next in the alphabet and Class C had already been coined for non-audio power, it doesn’t mean digital etc.
  5. Picking up on this and the thread, Sandberg play each and every bass on assembly so after checking the parts are right, electronics done, it gets played, often by the owner Hölger himself to be sure it’s fine. Call ‘em Fender copies if you want, they are not, new shapes now, love or hate relics (I think they do the best in the biz) they do normal finishes too and there are literally about a million options if you calculate what is possible on the configurator. They are what Fender should be with fantastic customer service
  6. Aye Tom Waghorn is a busy chap. I did a similar look as you looking out for maybe doing a custom 12ver near to Bristol. I struggled....Maybe a trip to Jon Shuker in Derbyshire, not too far, he gets good reviews. Or take the plunge and do a self build?!
  7. If I get em I will be well proud, free tickets for all and sundry and i’ll Do a tour of the bashes
  8. @ped if I went ahead and got the boobs, would it stop, or would they just send more to bolt in a Brazilian Butt Lift as well?
  9. Much as I like my own Man boobs, Candice on the Ads is making me feel insufficient and I am sorely tempted to get bigger breasts. Can anyone recommend which are the best implants for metal please?
  10. I ever asked about yr strings, and now I use clearasil
  11. @Al Krow I did read the OP, but OK, to put it plainly, most of the statements about likes and dislikes are barn door obvious and actually applicable to the whole band, not just bass. Volume, cohesion. Dead time is nowt to do with just bass, but if your front person has charisma, so called ‘dead time’ becomes a non entity. Interesting bass lines - well if we have established that they barely listen to the bass, then the latest pentatonic lick with a gozillion hammer on’s will be missed easily. Probably no one has had a great deal of people say, “shame on you, you only played the root note”. Similarly have people had lots of people say, “Hey man, you bass lines are really interesting!” Lastly, the other parts are just a comparator between effects is like a who’s who of effects and justifying having them. You say they would not notice a zoom or an H9 difference, if at all, but they would definitely notice a FI, even if all parameters were set about the same? So essentially - it is saying to my mind anyway. Does the punter know the difference between a well balanced and practices sounding band versus a sloppy mushy goo. Probably, unless they are slaughtered and just wanna yell Sweet Caroline
  12. @Al Krow you have to look at the question and the group you have posted it to. Everyone here knows the importance of not just bass, but balance working a band. The question is phrased negatively, hence you will get negative responses, so it should come as no surprise. I personally agree with @drTStingray I think the audience know exactly what’s going on, maybe some wont know ‘specifics’......... Also as many people have said its genre specific
  13. @Al Krow as long as the bassist is playing the correct Jet bass song......... What if band A has a keys player......... What you are talking about is a full band playing a full band song, of course (unless it’s acoustic, no cajon drum etc.) all parts will merge together and give a fuller sound, that’s blindingly obvious. What about the other 2 points?
  14. No one seemed to care when Metallica edited out the whole of the bass line on the And Justice for All album. Seeet child of mine, people care way more about the guitar riff, if you never did the bass bit afterwards I reckon nearly all people would not care a jot Jet - the Bass player can’t even get the name of the song right, what hope do the audience have?! Aside from the obvious big names, a whole heap of bass players won’t know too many others who perform their craft, so if they don’t know or recognise, what hope do we hold for the audience
  15. Do Royal Blood and Paris Monster have a Bassist in their band?
  16. Fender Elite basses from the 80s. Recently check out DeTemple bass. http://www.detempleguitars.com/temp/CATALOG_ITEMS/DeTemple_P55_over.php These certainly look the beans. Hohner headless basses are 2 split coils in their housings. BC Rich Warwick john Entwistle Buzzard bass - although being the massive bell ends that are Warwick not only forced the destruction of the moulds so the real graphite version of this by status cannot be produced, they also then produced a wackass version of the bass.
  17. Awesome I was here as well! Brilliant show and 3 nice Sandbergs to boot!
  18. @CameronJ spot on Give me some Cane Rows and a bit of talent, we could be twinz
  19. @ped agree with that and Vigier - nice stuff Can we add BC Rich in there, not many warlock clones, they sit out there in their own
  20. @Al Krow nope, I use pedals, you know I do, but could go happily Bass - Amp - Cab, use em because I like em. Just sounds to me like an EQ pedal is chasing the tail, yep you could bump the frequency, and it may remove the sheet from infront the speakers, but there will still be a massive blanket and duvet sitting over the rest of the rig you have to fight through. Just going bybthe OP’s words - they have said it’s functional, but not inspiring, a load of opinions will flood, but they nailed a sound with a certain rig, and TC gear works. Thats about it really.
  21. Without bashing or championing any gear. One piece gives you joy, the other does not fulfil your sonic needs, but may do if you stick a load of stuff and EQ pedals infront of it to make it potentially sound how you like it, but no guarantee, and an increase in stuff (which you may want). Monetary situation aside - seems a fairly easy choice
  22. If I can tilt it slightly you can build in customer service, approachability, etc. I did mention Sandberg - Brilliant I’ve had great dealings with Status Waghorn guitars were excellent, I didn’t go through with the build, but a lovely chap to converse with
  23. Sheeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!! I popped an alder body and graphite neck bass together for way less, and I bet it don’t sound about fifty times as poop as tha Modulus
  24. Yep, it’s on the menu. I have a KMA Audio Machines The Tyler, eminently possible
