  1. @dannybuoy we are talking about the pedal yes?! Are Acme still being used by roadrunner
  2. @Al Krow agreeing with Alex, makes a change for you, you feeling OK?! I’ll float this about reggae for you, think about what instruments are primarily involved, think about how they are played, think about their sonic territory, then think about the sonic space left that the bass fills. If you put down the Hertzometer for a minute and think about the sounds and how they blend across not just reggae, but different types and styles of music, what the end goal of the sound is and how individuals play, the journey will be far more fruitful
  3. I was going to say I could make it sound excellent even without the worlds best pedal, but mum told me not to lie as well as not talk to strangers, but I seem to be doing that a fair bit on here. You are right about the finesse, let me know when you find someone to make yours sound good
  4. I reckon I could make most rigs sound alright except an MB Combo.....
  5. @Opticaleye you are right, I think mine is a wannabe, which makes you sort of a hero for me. That and a Forty Eight would be peachy
  6. I am less subtle pretty much all wide open! i do like the notch on the turn on my blend though
  7. 0000 wool is the thing to sand it with gentle and does the job
  8. Me too and I rather enjoy a root note and a plectrum
  9. All hail @FacStudio the anointed king of Sandberg’s!
  10. @Opticaleye you know I have an Umbo fetish and this is doing it no good!
  11. 10”, 15”, 500” speakers the statement stands that you make up the fundamental
  12. Reggae is less about the subs and lows and more about the mids actually Al. The reason you feel the note is because the sound systems often used 500” speakers at massive volumes
  13. You can hide at my bunker - pork scratching and crispy bits with real ale on tap
  14. @dannybuoy i think we get fooled that because it looks like an MM pick up, it has to be in the same place as a Stingray bass, and it should sound like a stingray if solo’d. Absolutely this is not the point of that bass configuration, and it is not the way it has been wired for sound either. Both the position and the relative ‘weakness’ of sound as some people call it of the MM is entirely intentional as it is there to blend with the J or P pick up. Even within the sig models that are VM/TM the M is positioned differently to a standard version ever so slightly. Now the sound may or may not be to someone’s liking anyway, but I wouldn’t say that an MM pick ups ‘natural’ place is in the Ray position, as the Basic shows that it works on its own out of Ray territory
  15. I know Bas, tuning 1 string takes super ages. Its Ok DB, AK spends even more time on the fret board than he does on BC so he has muscles of steel
  16. Judicious use of lower notes understanding harmonics of the fundamental in a carefully crafted sound, without the use of a heavier implement to act as a more expensive thumb rest. Remind me if you remembered your lesson on Drop D tuning vs D tuning.......
  17. Well i am a bit more meat and potatoes, we cant all have your bling and pizazz buddy. On this occasion yours are definitely bigger than mine
  18. Well i have been telling you there is no need for a 5er Mr Krow..........
  19. Ok mate no need to shout, I heard you this time. Maybe you EQ’d those out of the bottom end......
  20. @discreet sorry what does it sound like? I couldn’t quite get what you were stressing....!
  21. I love discussions like this, as it’s so specific to what bands play and do. My guitarist is very good (too good for me, he tolerates me as we are mates) but he has a massive tone, playing style more along Ty Tabor, George Lynch. I need to scoop a bit to let him take as much space as possible. No other instruments, just a 3 piece. When I have played with others, absolutely more comes in.
  22. I imagine/remember what the band sounds like and then play my sound/tone according to that regardless of how it sounds solo’d, so it keeps me honest on what I want to achieve. i like my tone, hope others like it too
