  1. @PaulWarning I agree with you totally, from having read a numerous amount of threads it seems to me the no compression group say prove you don’t need it, the compression group give examples of where compression is used at every point along a signal chain, whether intentional or not, and then things like it’s a cover up for sloppy technique, I don’t use one and my sound is fine comes out, yes it happens in studio recorded music and that’s fine, but no need live, The audience won’t notice etc and it all descends. Is it compressor as a function, as an effect, as a limiter, for sustain......... I Suppose the question is do you want an additional compressor pedal or rackmount, in addition to the natural compression happening in your chain? If you want to yes, if you don’t, don’t. If you want to experiment do it!
  2. @Brook_fan ah yes, that was probably because the OP also posted the same thread on Talkbass at the same time and was relaying 1 of those results not in favour of compression, and I just pointed out in the interest of balance that the other 99% of replies thought it was just another thinly veiled compressor bashing thread. And I cannot disagree with your description of a use for compression amongst the many out there depending how you set it up
  3. @Brook_fan if it’s in relation to Europe stuff, it was only mentioned once or twice, andnthats my fault, but actually it’s sort of relevant and comparative. According to the figures it’s a 50-50 split, each camp will believe they are right and will trot out reasons for it, and the debate will roll on........going no further as I certainly don’t want to politicise it!
  4. @bazzbass one thing could be that because there has been a change in sound, then being different you initially think it’s better because it is different sound. Regarding staring again, has anything else changed in your chain? i always advocate starting on minimum, then maxing everything, then everything in the middle, note all differences and then notch through the parameters till you get a pleasing sound. Snap a photo of your old settings, don’t look at it and then see where you end up with the new one!
  5. Ha! we both nicely sat on the fence for that one, or the mod police would have us!
  6. Yep That's to be expected, but what does it tell us? Just over or just under 50% of the country voted for or against Brexit
  7. @Al Krow are you just gonna pick that one comment from that thread, or will you also quote the 90 other comments that disagree with the post and think it’s not the greatest of questions, putting it lightly....!
  8. @NancyJohnson philistine
  9. Electra’s a good basses, yes they are assembled in the East but all final Quality control is done at the ‘Home’ in Germany. Excellent Customer Service which @CameronJ can confirm. He had a second hand minimum bass, tuning peg broke on it, he emailed Sandberg and the owner Holger replied personally and they sent out a replacement tuner Free of charge, remember this is their budget range! To me they are no brainers @dood did a great review on their VS4 Electra, and there are a few around on eBay and gumtree at the moment. PMT usually have a stock, if you have one near you try one out, then you can decide if you want one second hand
  10. @rushscored4 @Elfrasho Yep just seen that, and if you are interested....... Its overpriced, his description is wrong it’s not delano pups, defo Sandberg in House pick ups, i’d hardly call a strap ‘plus extras’, it’s a 3rd hand bass minimum, plus I know that he has hiked the price he paid for it a few weeks ago, so he is gaming it quite hard, and he should know they are about 4kg. They should be about £900 regardless of recen price hike IMO, and that is fair for a wonderful bass. To get a Sandy closer to £700 you would be looking at one without ageing done, that is of course personal preference. A TT (jazz) bass has a neck but width of about 39mm and is still slim and nice, there is not a lot in it, you may struggle for under £700 for a Sandy, but you may get lucky. If you are interested in a DK, and want to know more I will happily oblige, shoot me a pm
  11. ......aaaaaaaaaaaand all those basslines were compressed. I would say your band is tight and sounds great together because you have used compression wisely as well as playing really well together as a unit
  12. Sandberg MarloweDK 37mm at the nut very slim and fast with a great feel all around, it pushes your budget though
  13. Should we not do the same for:- If you played a wrong note Got the timing wrong Used flanger instead of chorus Kicked some form of distortion/overdrive/fuzz on in a song you wouldn’t normally do it I take it if only 1 person notices that’s enough, or does there have to be more than that...... I have to say IMHO this survey misses the point of how you use compression and so won’t really prove anything either way
  14. Hell no Me first!!!!
  15. @mcnach I agree it will be difficult to properly A/B them, the same strings on them or not, this nuances of how a person finger plucks, slaps, uses a pick with minor adjustments in how you blend it will never come out. Its a bit soft, but I genuinely think the feel of the bass will being out a different way of playing. To me what you have written is great and enough juice in there to warrant someone taking a ‘punt’ on a new one (like you have with a returns policy) or play one on the second hand market to see if they likey
  16. Long but great
  17. Ooops sorry! perils of not reading properly when you are supposed to be working!
  18. Pretty sure the Hotstone deluxe is a normal kettle cable, surely most will do?! i interchange cables between 2 combo amps and a powered monitor with no hassle. Cioks are the only monkeys that have a clover leaf and are a pain, but great power supplies
  19. Nope Whichever mode or equipment to give compression which works for you when and wherever
  20. Ha! a) no b) love him c) not yet i posted across the 3 relevant topics so that peeps who were following each could get a slice, yep there will be cross over! But, you have virtually nailed it, by searching YOUR tone and blending it to your band, covers or originals, it will make for a better show andnlistening experience and the audience benefit as not only will they like what they hear, but what they see which is the point of love music, someone into the groove. Amd this you have answered your own question
  21. You can run the amp always clean, always b3K or always VMT clucking the right switches, or you can kick the effects in and out as you choose. The DG is a fine amp, and isn’t just for metal/rock. If you like the Aggie and like the B3K/b7k why not stick with that amp and pedal combination?
  22. People do care about bass tone, they just don’t know it! AlSome wise words about tone and EQ from the man himself.
  23. cant wait for the reality when it comes!
  24. bit of demo and chat about the pedal, but wise words in general from the big man
  25. @Old Man Riva brilliant, thanks for that. Yep he has some chops, always enjoyed his playing
