And Krow-son you could change your 6 string into an 18string, that would be cool...

@Al Krow I wouldn’t call you a compressor fence sitter, you are the Bob Dylan mate, and using the justification of a lack of observation skills from your band to no one needing a compressor is pure knights move thinking. Another compressor thread again descends allegations into technique issues, no compressor user ever says that you shouldn’t have good technique, and I really doubt anyone rags their speakers soooooooo much that peaks in their sound caused by a filter pedal will blow them up. regarding a drive pedal, well depending on which one and what kind, that more than likely has some form of compression in it, so yes another compressor may be a waste, but you are compressing the sound. Yes compression comes in all ways and forms along the chain, most ways you will not know about, will adding a compressor help, yes it can if properly understood and properly used with a clear goal and not just tried it once, Pah -it’s rubbish. Is it essential, of course not, the only essential thing is a bass guitar of some description and a means to amplify it and to have fun.

G minor G Sus 2 G sus 4 want me to continue.....?!

No need to compare @Al Krow it’s not organically the same, use your ears mate, not as Deep or organic And the harmonics of 3 vibrating strings will never be replicated
-
Finally I can agree with this and not just in theory but practically having used octave pedals and a 12ver, but if what any pedal gives you works for you then it’s not a bad thing, but it will not be a multisteing instrument. Its like bass done by a keyboard, yep the bassline will be there, but it’s not the same

To me this is almost the perfect rock song. George Lynch is a vastly underrated guitarist and I think this is a beautiful solo, easily matching the famous Zak Wylde in Ozzy’s no more tears. Ray Luzier is a monster drummer and drives the song, rhythm changes etc. dUg kills it with simplicity. KXM - Breakout - I could listen to this everyday and not get bored.

It actually is restaurant, but when she is in mermaid mode there is a foot spa to keep the tail, but then she magically transforms to human form I have been reliably informed!

My daughters insisted I play my guitar this morning, they never normally do, I should have smelled something was up....... So the question is, what other uses do your bags/cases have?!

Bless you Mr Krow, bless you! I may change my Avatar to FatDug! That would be a dream, not for the audience tho

Who are we kidding - does great bass tone REALLY matter?
Cuzzie replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
@Al KrowOh they they may not give a stuff about the MB cab, because it is giving a great tone already that fits with the band, that’s entirely possible is it not? You mentioned your MB cab vs VK cab which will be paired with a head. The question is how do they comment on them in comparison to each other? And also which head cab combination? If they make no comment, then they either don’t care about the bass tone, or they liked all combinations equally. -

@Al Krow it wasn’t aimed at you’re (!) band, it’s a vast generalisation about bands in general, and I am sure they are lovely people. This is leaving personalities aside. You could have someone who cares deeply about tone on every instrument known to man who is an absolute bell end, and I wouldn’t want to play with them. Agreed that the nuances between dirt pedals which you are learning whether it’s Fuzz or RAT bases or germanium vs silicone clipping may be lost, and may not be important, but when it comes to that it will be more like does this song need some form of dirt yes or no, rather than which pedal to do that, as long as the bass tone does not suck. Crass and ignorance is not referring to them as people, it’s to the concept you have laid out about not caring about bass within the context of the overall sound, which is entirely what the OP was about. -

@Al Krow you and your fine wines, is that because your in Laaaaaaaaandon and gone all soft.....?! Whats wrong with a good pint of Ale or Cider eh?! To me, every point that has been said on here ‘for’ or ‘against’ (I don’t think anyone is actually against a great tone) is actually making a case FOR a great tone overall. If it sounds wrong, it’s not a great tone, if it sounds great, then it is a great tone no matter the equipment, number of pedals, expense of bass, minutes or hours of tinkering or practice. Some tone can be stonking and get you on your feet and prick your ears up. It really is that simple, and yes I am biased as I am sticking by my original statement. I do genuinely think that the audience does care, but what is more worrisome which @krispn highlighted, is if your band doesn’t care, that is ludicrous, crass and plain ignorant, because you can bet if they were in an audience listening they would probably be the first to comment on someone else’s poor tone. -

@mikel absolutely I add colour to the sound I want with pedals, but as it’s not part of the thread I did not want to get into “this is my signal chain etc.” When I say the sound I want, I mean that modified the way I see fit before it hits amp and cab. -

Excellent response Doc. Its nothing against anyone else’s equipment, but re Markbass or not, coloration of sound or etc it’s why I prefer a super clean transparent amp and speakers to transmit the sound I want -
I am rapidly finding out about modifying techinque with a 12! Its not easy!
-
@Al Krow the other thing is to use the 8 for the whole gig, but modify your technique so you can use just the one string if required, instead of the octave
-
Good man glad to hear it went so well. i am hoping for a band practice this week to test it out, but yes, some of y our songs defo don’t work!

@Al Krow the search continues..... Digitech Whammy gets you close

I’ve had the M900 amp, and I have no complaints about it, great EQ on the clean side. The drive channel ultimately was not my thing, but you can still get a useable sound without it being modern metal for other types of music. Don’t let the oodles of demos fool you, it’s not a pigeonholed amp and will work across genres. I have had not just the amp butbthe VMt and b7k Pedals. If you do want a vintage sound you may find you prefer the b3k circuit, VMT can be a little mushy. I moved mine on for something else, because there was another sound and set up I wanted. You can’t hate the amp, I don’t know anyone that won’t like it, and you may love it, but ultimately you have to play it to see if it’s you, we can’t tell you that. if you want and alternative with an inbuilt drive channel look at the Genzler Magellan 800, that is also very good.

I waited about a year or so, it’s worth it!
