  1. Two Notes are real quality pieces of gear, guitarist mate of mine uses the cabs Simms for guitars, and when I looked at the list the amount of bass cabs they have is not as extensive, but if it has the one you want I think it would be a decent buy, be good to hear what others have to say
  2. Disagree with the optical illusion Bas, like or loathe the shape and finish (I am predicting all kinds of obscure car references, lack of authenticity with a distressed finish etc.) in the Neck pick up is a split coil, housed in a humbucker tin. I would wager that optically this is way better for this bass. They even do a 5 String Bas, as you play in shades it’s right up your over 40s street.....
  3. Look at and listen to Sandberg TM basses, they invariably have Delano’s with a Glockenklang pre amp in them. Delano’s are more modern sounding and a bit more HiFi. if you want something a bit more vintage and a bit more mid range look at Haüssel pick ups. Ulyate pick ups are making some noise across the water, and the have a new TicTac range with slightly different magnets. i’ve also been interested in Joe Barden pick ups, but they do not do an MM one as far as I know, which is the same for Lindy Fralin pick ups.
  4. I have 2 red basses and compared to the white bass I have I sound equally as stinky poo or doubly as good
  5. Nonsure what you are Banglesing on about, you’re a bit of a pyramidiot too, don’t deNile it
  6. Yep Cam, you said it! still no reports of a DG cab out in the wild yet, but this Aggie looks nice
  7. I put a heavy set on specifically when I tried BEAD, but why could you not put on DR DDTs for normal tuning as an example of a string? When yo drop it/them down there may be some benefit to their design to help. Personally I like DR DDTs, one bass is down half a step, the other is normal, I like the way they sound and play. I would have no qualms in putting a heavier set on no matter the tuning if I preferred their feel and sound. Can you expand a little please?
  8. I did put extra Heavy DR DDTs on that bass which probably helped it to hold, the only nut I had to file was the G String, all Others were fine. i loved that bass dearly, it was beautiful, only problem was I could not take those MFD pick ups, they were all power and no subtly, it looked amazing, one of the best necks, a G&L #8 is super skinny and lovely, much better than their #12 they stick on everything which is sort of a PJ size
  9. @mcnach no arguments from me there with anything you have written, it’s all good stuff, I was just presenting possible alternatives without changing the bass which was my impression of the OP. i did throw in there the new Schecter Apocalypse bass which is a 4 String designed to be tuned BEAD, which is out and will be at NAMM about now, and certainly looks good. They also have a 4 and a 5 in the same flavour
  10. Ha! i did do this on one bass, G&L ASAT semi hollow, it tolerated it very well, and played fine, but everyone is different
  11. @mcnach they have D tuners with the dial on the Treble side so you could flip everything down. i know it’s a lot but it could work, and 4 d tuners are less expensive than a whole new bass probably. Or getbthe new Schecter Apocalypse Baritone 4 String bass!
  12. easy Enough to go DR DDT strings heavy or extra heavy and file the nut
  13. How about an Olinto P bass with a Carbonetti guitars relic job http://www.labella.com/basses/ Mas Hino has some skills
  14. Give us a nudge if you do and let me know how it performs
  15. @mcnach haven’t they brought out a double drop? not used it personally so can’t comment on how good, but this could be a solution https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-xtenders/products/doublestop-lever-addon
  16. @Paul S I love him dearly, but please do not lock me in a room with him, it’s bad enough I realise that as he gets older and more batty I will have to take him to feed the ducks, I don’t want to live with him as well....
  17. You can get a drop D tuning easily with a D tuner, costs about £70 and means you can easily flip in and out. if you really wanted you can fit 4 of them and drop every String to your desired tuning.
  18. I imagine the world sleeping now to it... Warwick would build one for you mate, they would build me a 12ver if i wanted (they may well have done one before, or at least an 8)
  19. @Al Krow ‘it’s true my old bean, you caught me at a weak moment mixing my high pass and high cut terminology up, fairy muff, however you did only baulk at a 12 String once I explained (and you retained the info in your over 40s mind) what 3 courses of strings were, and then proceed to tell me that any octaver which was your flavour at the time would do a better job than an actual tuned string. Not sure the band with on he new fab web site would cope with listing all your faux pas.....
  20. @kodiakblair I should have written it better you are right, but honestly you can tell @Al Krow anything, he’ll probably believe it and then repeat it as gospel, or he’ll quote you and change bits to suit himself
  21. If it speaks to you, it speaks to you 40 years or 40 seconds old, but the key is the set up, and probably newer instruments are easier to set up well for the average luthier/bassists who do their own
