Not tried, but i listened to a load of videos etc and universally is given a massive thumbs up, that and Reiner Amplification Gasoline. Reiner also do amps, small run business in the states

@Al Krow yep I did start that thread, but when due diligence is paid to what I said, I never stated once that DG was not a quality product, or had did not have quality customer service. I praised the amp and the EQ of it and the pedals, but I decided the drive part of the equation was not for me. I have never not praised Doug as I have had email conversations with him and he has always been super helpful. i then said they are actually selling themselves short and pigeon holeing themselves into the metal market with the demos out there, as it’s does more than what is seen. I have been consistent on this, and indeed sent you a clean bass demo which was very good with a DG amp an upright bass as well with the amp. My vitriol, rant what ever you want to call it, I would say point of view though, was that the NEW products that came out I.e. the Cabs, The M500 and the Omicron hot on the heels of the Alpha Omega, may not do justice at their price point. Ceramic drivers, weight, costings etc. And I always said I was prepared to be wrong when we heard demo’s Of the cabs themselves not just aligned to a distorted sound, they may be the absolute nuts. There is a significant difference there between vitriol and slaying a product and questioning the price value for what it is (of course the price is whatever someone wants to pay for it) having used a number of their products, as opposed to someone vehemently deciding it was last years sound (despite never trying either pedal or amp) will not touch a product and then saying oh actually they might be quite good (something the apparent dissenter always maintained, but decided it wasn’t for him). There is a difference Bas and I know we like poking each other on this one. I will say triumphantly though on his occasion you are wrong, HOWEVER, you being wrong has actually lead you into potentially being in a very good situation. Maybe after getting it you can go somewhat into answering those questions you ignored a while back! ps can we still have make up cuddles, they are the best xxx

@Al Krow you know both @Osiris and I appreciate the clean channel on the M900, but to quantify this (maybe you were holding something back) you never said with your broad brush tarnishing of DG products that you loved the clean tone, and the clean EQ on either their B7K or ultra pedals or amps, I am sure it was a pure lambasting..... i am sure also you have poured scorn on someone for considering getting a B7K pedal to use as a clean EQ only, and similarly poured scorn on another for mainly (not only) using 1 of the Two available channels (the other does get used) on the Two Notes LeBass and that it renders it a useless very expensive non-intuitive pre-amp pedal. So if there is such a thing as Bas Logic (I am not sure there is) then taking all previous evidence into account, this is a massive turnaround. The only reason we are considering community service for you and not a sentence is that your insanity has been cured by some twist of fate and chance that you will use the amp. The sentence is suspended though and will be enforced if you ever touch the drive channel
-
@Osiris he did say though that he would categorically, unequivocally NEVER use it, nor even turn it on. Bas is a man of principles and conviction, he never backtracks on ideals and statements. i think we can give him the benefit of the doubt here. There will not be a thread saying ‘DG was the sound 2 years ago, but not last year, but is again this year’ I promise you.....
-
Oh sweet hallelujah thanks goodness some sense prevails and it’s just your poor grip of diction and the English language that confused all of us normal people that don’t live in Laaaaarndon and speak proppa bruv innit.... yes your sentence structure began with not all but then you say lurk modestly in the background - name a bassist- and then say others drive the sound, name a bassist. i would wager x4 the BBB that is what most people outside of Basland (at least 80%) would have read it as. glad you edited it now, B- is your new grade
-
@Al Krow are you really suggesting JPJ and Flea lurk in the background? its plainly obvious that those two, especially JPJ drive the songs and the energy of each song. all or the sounds have to blend for it to be a good sound, look at Primus as an example, Les does some crazy stuff, but his guitarist also has crazy effects he uses to fold around the bass and it as much makes the song as the bassline. i would argue it’s the same across a lot of genres in a lot of circumstances, and more than you would think. a classic example of missing how a bass drives a song is listen to Evil by Cactus. Then listen to Black Stone Cherry’s cover of it on their recent album. They downtuned it and slowed it down and it lost all the energy, whereas all along the bass was subtly driving it, in the background and you may have missed it. i agreed with you once earlier today, usual service resumes!
-
I thought I felt tremors......../ that looks awesome and mean. i don’t care about your neighbours we want a loud volume report today thanks! congrats
-
You know I agree with you on a lot of things @Al Krow but you do always dodge my questions..... ;-)
-
Exactly my point! Plus an intimate tinkering knowledge of DG pedals would be helpful to do this comparison or have compared the 2 amps
-
@Al Krow I don’t misunderstand you statement as praise for the DG microtubes engine, I am asking based on why it is better than the Tech21 dUg. Call it a turd race if you want, but why is the DG better than the dUg? As per the questions asked earlier, even if you think both are rubbish and something you would never use, why is one more rubbish than the other? so far as dUg saying it’s the best pedal in the world, it’s not arrogant, for him, it probably is as it’s nailed his sound (which plenty of people do want) in a pedal they can use with their existing amp instead of buying his amp. Surely this is a good thing no? dUg is one of the least arrogant people out there, a true people person. So come on then Bas, give a run down on DG microtubes Pedals in all their forms vs dUg Pedal and the dUg amp be the DG amp
-
@Al Krow can’t believe you are backing cowboys, no matter who won, Indians were way cooler, you should know that! So I am going to call you out on your sweeping statement going back a few posts and ask some questions. Why do you genuinely think the DG microtubes does a better job compared to the dUg pedal? When you say microtubes do you mean their microtubes pedals (of which there are a few), which pedals do you prefer to the dUg and why. Do you mean the microtubes section on the amp compared to the pedal? Is there a difference sonically on the microtubes section on the amp compared to the individual pedals it is replicating? If you say it’s the amp, then that’s an unfair comparison as the pedal has a fixed crossover and no EQ, so in that case can you compare please the DG M900 vs the dUg Ultrabass 1000 both on clean and dirt capabilities? Just to complete the set can you shed some light on the Tech21 amps VT1000 vs 1969 vs Landmark 300 vs dUg Ultrabass as they all seem very similar on paper and looking aside from the paint job. While we are here give us an opinion on David Norschow Amplification and it’s new amp. It looks like it may be another Genzler Magellan 800 with a crap drive you’ll never use in isolation. I would love to see you with that rig you mentioned Bas, it’s bigger than you! i’ll await Answers patiently....

@Al Krow is your typical Wild West cowboy, shoot first and ask questions later. Bazza the kid!
-
@Al Krow nope I am happy with my Form Factor Bi1000, you can’t comment until you’ve tried the DG! you have to remember this pedal is a fixed crossover and will give you a specific tone, which may well be marmite. I seem to remember you slating the ‘baked in’ Darkglass tone previously......... i don’t hate the DG distortion, but to my ears it sounds a little separated from the clean tone, that is just me, not a hater. To comment on the dUg pedal you have to Understand the dUg Ultrabass 1000 amp which is a while other animal, and has a great clean tone as well. Bas you cannot move me on this one, dUg the bassist is king! i am sure his pedal will be really good
-
@radiophonic yep, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. if you have time have a quick flick through their catalogue to see an evolution of sound, so even from Faith hope and love, to out of the silent planet, Gretchen goes to Nebraska, and Ear Candy whilst retaining a distorted tone there is a progression as he moved from Bi Amping through to the dUg amp. The big change was when they regularly started to downtune and end even lower check out the Dogman album. That is for me a dream tone, it’s immense, but listening to the guitar Ty is playing a Stratocaster and sprinkling fairy dust over the top.
-
@radiophonic yes it is compressed, but so is dUg’s sound. have you heard Kings X live? its a monster tone but you are completely right, the way he blends with Ty Tabor is the key to it, but it’s absolutely lovely it really is
-
dUg pedal will definitely be south of £500 and may be closer to £350. This is direct word from Tech21. the pedal will have fixed crossover points for the distortion sound which will give you dUg’s sound and a little flexibility in the dials and what you can do. You will not get the full dUg amp drive section flexibility, but it has a tuner and a compressor as well as the circuit. If you like dUgs tone you’ll get it with spades. Its coming out at NAMM this Jan and then later in 2018, no actual date given.
-
@Al Krow doesn’t like the A channel because there are only 4 knobs he thinks it’s not worth his time as there are more knobs on the other side....
-
Used MXR - not bad at all User Darkglass Super symmetry - again good compressor and puts a warm feeling to your tone i have a Cali76G- it’s the absolute mutts nuts-infact anything Cali is super cool. You will defo not go wrong there!

this is the previous version of The Parvati and the newest one is an improved version to give you an idea. you can see the actual Parvati here playing into the KMA Tyler at about 1.36mins https://youtu.be/myS94LW6lNY There was a dating show years ago called blind date where someone chose another based purely on how they answered questions. Hosted by Cilla Black, at the end the voice over always said “the decision is yours!”

Showing my age....
-
So i’ll Just lay each of the pedals out as they are, opinions can be made by each person, as that is what it comes down to at the end of the day the Tyler - a double FX loop with a HPF and a LPF to blend with your clean signal and it does have a Phase inverter switch. To my ears it is fully transparent so when not engaged i’d Say the normal tone goes through. The Parvati - Based on the vintage Russian Muff from Matte. A mid control was added, to help regulate these frequencies (scoop). Additionally each clipping stage has its own switch. With the left switch (Stage 1), you can choose between Silicon - No clipping - Germanium. The right switch (Stage 2) adds another three clipping variations, again silicone, no clipping, Germanium. With both switches in the lower position, you get the clipping stages of the Green Muff. Everything else is up to you to find your personal sound! From Fuzz/Distortion to smooth Overdrive. It also has a tone knob boosting or cutting highs or lows. I will say it has a range of sounds as you would expect, and you can keep a good handle on the lower end so it does not get lost, get that fuzzy muff and get nasty clanky modern and bits in between. I seem to find a sound I like, and then find another, and another which is cool and engaging at the same time, lots of tinker and it really loves a P bass, really loves a fat split coil. There is a big difference between my Sandberg Jazz with Sandbergs pick ups, the one with Haüssel’s andbthe P bass, all good in their own right. @totorbass you don’t need to get too fuzzy with it, there is definite clarity in it but Cilla, the decision is yours!
-
@Al Krow I should have some time to record it today for you. I’ll go native, no other effects, then I may do it via the Tyler with the rest of my chain for you to see if it makes the blondest difference, it probably won’t knowing me!
-
@Al Krow it’s not a baked in sound. What you are getting in the videos on you tube is often guys playing very aggressively, or really quickly with a very compressed sound to double and triplet kick drums, and that version of modern metal. I have nothing against periphery, meshuggah etc. I quite like their stuff, but if that is all you hear, or the other extreme is people doing a lot of tapping, that’s what you’ll think of. you can for example get very close to a Tech21 dUg ultrabass sound. I spoke to Doug Castro about this as I found it when tinkering, he has the dUg amp as well and he could not explain exactly how it happened as the circuits are different, but when you crank stuff, hit strings differently, allow harmonics to sing and blend you can get very pleasant tones. similarly you will get a straight up tone for R&B, funk, Jazz, Country. So I don’t think there is a ‘baked in’ tone, there is a characteristic to the drive provided which you can mould and blend with any other pedals you have. My other 2 bits - the VMT for me was poo, couldn’t get it to sit right, it wasn’t vintage it was muffled and confused. B3K circuit is mint
-
From my point of view when I had it it’s not just about the dials, and EQ points, but also your attack and fingers vs pick. What I will say for me is that the distortion side of things always sounded a little separate from the actual bass sound, instead of being truly parallel with it. That was pedals and amps, and just not quite enough low end, close , but not quite for me. That just my thoughts, happy to be disagreed with. Despite some of my remarks on other threads which was more about price points, I will stress that customer service and build quality are top notch and no one can disagree with that whether you like the products or not!

Bas we may need you to go to the Yammy store and try out! no playing comparison from me but all I know is that they now have the diagonal bolts for the neck which I think is smart body is a bit sleeker pick ups have pole pieces instead of blades and are voiced slightly differently
