Nice work buddy 3 part harmonies too. I would have enjoyed a pint to that

Ok First step up is turn up in the house and see what the amp can do. It's loud and crisp and accurately represents what you throw at it. I played it raw from my Sandberg bases - nice sound, clean and crisp, the dials do what they say on the tin-straight up flat, counter clockwise cut and clockwise boost, loads of bass on tap. Select the Mid frequency you want to affect, it's a nice big dial that clicks at each level, and bingo you do the same. I threw my pedals at it and it gave me what I wanted to hear. The pedals were a Hartke VXL, MXR Bass chorus deluxe, Cali76G, Two Notes LeBass. All through my BF Supertwin Did I mention it was loud?! It copes admirably and as you turn up so does it with no jumps and spikes from one level to another. Happy bunny so far for a clean transparent tone with presence Next step Loud outside the home.. Well worth a consideration for people in bass land. They also do a 400w version

Just have to say guys, really like all your websites, its nice to see people not pumping out generic stuff, but stuff which encapsulates the character of each band. Long success to you all

No worries, let us know, it will sound great, but it will sound different to the jazz, it's not a bad thing, just different

OK, Before my head I have a Hartke VXL, Cali76G compressor and Two Notes LeBass. All great pedals. Used it with a PJB Bass Cub for a combo. I also used it with a Darkglass M900 amp which again was good, but I am playing much cleaner now and am using a Form Factor Audio Bi1000. This is through a Barefaced Supertwin. A friend of mine has a VM4 which has Delano's and if you want a hifi sound these are a decent bet. Funnily enough, he quite likes my Sandberg pups! I would take your bass and cab to a local music store and trynout some heads, then you know that is the only thing changing to help make your mind up. If you think the Puma is a bit polite, maybe avoid EICH amps as they are made by the same person, he just split to do his own thing. Another friend with a VM4 uses a Genzler Magellan, great amp, he is very happy. Defo try a few heads out with your gear. DR are great strings, I have their DDTs. One last thing, has it had a proper set up? Is the pick up at the right height to get the most out of it?

On the Darkglass Instagram page there is a 5 min interview talking about his new cabs. To summarise 4x10 @ 1000w 2x10 @ 500w Ceramic drivers Specially made, custom made for DG eminence speakers. Crossover point fixed in at a lower Hz to adeptly handle distortion, not just DG distortion, set to take the bee hive hum/fizz away. Cabs are made in the UK! Predicted date Mid October. There you go!

For all you Darkglass nuts there is a 5 min video on the Darkglass instagram account where he is talking about his cabs...

I like my VS4 passive, it's a great instrument, But I love my Sandberg MarloweDK. What you are describing are the 2 inherent qualities of 2 very good basses. Depending on what you play and who you play with, and what they are playing it's only you can decide what you want. Your strings and cab are great, your head is good too, although not my favourite for powering your sound, but if you like it, don't worry. I would do nothing, play the Jazz live mainly, have the VS4 as a back up, or you may find if doing any recording or certain types of songs it feels a bit better. Don't knock pedals, some are really good and you don't have to spend the earth on them. A really good cheap one that I know plays well with the VS4 is a Hartke VXL, you can get them for £40 second hand and it has a DI out. You have quality kit, enjoy them for what they are, but definitely do not put a hole in the VS4, worse case, sell it on.
-
I have a VS4 passive too IMHO don't cut a hole in to make it a PJ or a VM use any of the suggestions made in the thread, but it's your bass to do as you choose
-
Yes they do sound hefty and good, maybe a touch on the bright side with the Alu/paper cone mix but good all the same
-
Hopefully it will all be amicable and notnout of pocket for you Let us know

Good cabs, will serve you well. I had one and only moved it on for space saving and got something else
-
That's a J pick up You have a split coil P bass or so you said If you want to rout the guitar and add a J at the bridge making it a PJ, get any size you want and cut the hole as you see fit
-
Sorry to hear that buddy Maybe politely point out that companies like Darkglass would do something about it and see what they say Fingers crossed
-
Good to hear You are nearly right on the comparisons though Glock will be Audi/Mercedes/BMW battle, we can even through minis in there Form factor vs Mesa you are looking at Shelby mustang vs corvette etc!
-
Yep Come across them before and they seem pretty well made, good principles with a decent sound from what I have heard without having road tested in the flesh. If I am correct you can also get custom colours, very Italian! Another to add to this which may do the job are a Dutch manufacturer called Hevos. This is all going on specs and on what little sound bites you can get on the internet, but seems a very credible alternative. I think there are loads of things out there to use which will do the job really well, sometimes you need to take a punt similar to what Wateroftyne has done with Handbox. I've done a similar with Form Factor Audio. I suppose for most folks it's a question of sticking with tried and tested in case you want to move it on. Finally nice to have a trusted ear hear it in the flesh. Were you impressed? Is this a Ferrari vs Maserati or a Fiat vs Alfa Romeo debate?!

Don't get a Fender Starcaster. I had one, it was panty poo plops
-
Yeah it's pretty good and secure, only problem is if you forget it or lose it then you are a bit stuffed. Fortunately they packed me with 2 which is pretty decent especially as they have to get it made specifically. By all accounts from other people on Talkbass and speaking to an endorsed artist they do look after you. I experienced that so far

Fusion gig bags are excellent and pretty bombproof
-
yep - lost some time already.........
-
Sounds a dream - its perfect for me, absolute dream, and strangely i love a big footprint, it stops me from trying to expand where i don't need to. One of my best purchases ever i reckon and you're a top bloke to boot. Think you are onto a winner with names, time to design your own pedal!
-
If it's what you want and you are sure it's not a bad idea, however if you eventually want to sell the bass it will affect resale value as it's been altered and would not fetch the same as an unaltered VS4 or VT. As per earlier posts it's all your own decision but base it on your ears, that goes for pick up choice as well, none of us can lead on that.

+1 for Ditto X2 and you can have 2 instruments into it at the same time
