  1. Totally get your point, I use GHS Boomers and if I had flats it would be tamer, but I like the grit of the Boomers. What I have is very old Boomers on the ASAT solid body as it is just a more meaty bass and with the thick neck, it really keeps the thud of a dense and classic almost Motown sound if I want. As I said before the semi hollow needs to keep strings in the new end so the rich harmonics sing. This bass really likes a pick being used. I keep fairly fresh strings in the L1500 as now I can do anything with it being able to control the tone and it is a finger machine.   2. A fellow Bristolian - excellent!. I got this from the Basses by leo site, so i cannot lay claim to being a technological genius, but for me it has made a huge difference. I never played the bass with the knobw past about 75%, which so far as my understanding goes is how they were designed to roll at, due to them being super hot, but with the L1500 i just found the treble region too much, especially with the pre-amp on and was almost like finger nails on a blackboard. It nearly made me move the bass on, i even advertised it on here. I did this mod and the world changed. 1. Replacing the stock R7 resistor with a 22k resistor kills the treble boost when the preamp is on. 2. Replacing the stock capacitor on the treble-cut pot with a .1 uf capacitor enables more treble roll-off. 3. A .001 uf capacitor added to the bass-cut pot (center lug to back of pot) reduces the resonant frequency of the pickup, providing more low end all the time. The key with point 3 is to ADD the bass pot capacitor, not change it. I have so much low end it is a complete sub machine as well as being a funk machine. I love my ASAT number 7 neck it is powerful. Adore my ASAT semi hollow with its singing ability, fast number 8 neck and it can still be dirty, but after this mod i have not put down the L1500 and its number 12 neck. Its probably not my favourite Bec, I prefers the other extremes i have, but the sound i get is phenomenal. Happy to receive a pm for further discussion
  3. I'm with Pinball except that I would have the ASAT, same electronics, but love the shape. Interestingly Pinball, have you modded your L1500 pre-amp and tone pots? I have and it's a whole new awesome beast!
  4. Simply because they are really well made basses which sound absolutely brilliant. If you like a Fender you will like them, but they are so much more than that. The Pick ups have a bigger tone and palette to me, they will cover the Fender territory and give you more than that, add in the vast array of finishes and neck sizes available then you have an awesome template. The nuances between the line ups and their Pup placement really do give you everything you need across the board. I'll Post a pic in a bit

  11. Yes for ACS Interesting ones are acoustic DUBS, they do it block the most amount of sound, but donallow it to filter through. Unfortunately on this one, you get what you pay for and I would say that ears are priceless...

Hello mate, Maybe I am about the same with you, but part of it with me is I only started playing about 2-3 years ago so I am on a quick curve with gear as I am a working man and have a bit more income compared to starting as a teenager. Nowadays gear is easy to shift and pick up with here, Talkbass, gumtree, eBay etc. so it happens more than it used to. I lucked out early in my guitar search, took a punt and realised I like G&L basses so am fairly set, although I do have a minor I ch for a Ray, and pedals amps etc. Well it's a journey to get what your ears like. I would only call it GIS if you keep selling and re-buying the same equipment, if you buy and move it on its GES - Gear Experimenting Syndrome

[/quote] Point taken and no you cant run demos with multiple cabs, that would be too much, but was just trying to rationale the sound heard for an earlier persons comments, and it probably wasn't tweaked. They did just say we chose this cab as it is scandinavian.....which is not great, and they should highlight its strengths and weaknesses as not everyone will know as much as you do about the cabs. The key to that demo though was the lack of proper use of the EQ section and just flagrant knob twiddling
  18. It's definitely a voyage with this one, i am loving it so far. I paired it with a Two Notes le bass before the VMT circuit and got some really nice harmonics and octaves with both distortion circuits hammering together, felt like i was playing a Hamer 8 or 12 string
  19. Have you looked at the Two Notes Le Bass? You can get clean as well as nasty channels in one pedal. The clean A channel on its own can be broken up to be a little gritty if you have the right bass for it. With the super hot G&L L1500 bass i can do this. I have this as well as DG B7k and VMT and can vouch for them all for different reasons

I agree of sorts with you, especially The clean sound, but what you had was the guy playing a lick and they were twiddling 1 knob full on and full off in succession and then back to neutral or somewhere else. The beauty is actually spending time with the amp as at every point amongst mids highs etc. They interblend with each other and then of course the gain knob will react with each frequency. It really is much more subtle (although powerful) than the review can say. The key is that the clean sound is awesome, which is actually the most important sound, if this is good then you can be assured the dirt will follow as it is great in their pedals. You have to remember also that EBS are quite coloured cabs, they put them together as they are Scandinavian-ish companies which is not the right reason! If I were you I would rush and try but have the time to sit with your bass and your idea of a sound
