  1. Gabrielle - Liverpool in the 90s - thank god it was a freebie
  2. Massive waste - toxic people around her causing a demise
  3. But you are prepared so that’s fine. when I was young and single I would always go out in hope of meeting a young lady and be ‘prepared’ but i have a face for radio so N inherent lack of success - the one time there is a chance - unprepared due to past history - consequence - home alone
  4. Yep Shells sand or stones so long as their is ice cream and chish and fips it’s fun
  5. No - it’s resin and lead-they are tone metals and tone sap/glue - they will have their own resonance properties - you wouldn’t catch me calling the plasma bass or acrylic bass a tone wood, that’s just silly. Feel free to look up the different tonewoods, densities, strengths, pores, water content etc that will give you information - from there you can decide how much difference there is. I know definitively my tone thing graphite bass sounds different to my tonewood one - and even if you jumped the electronics between the 2 it will be the same
  6. Not disputed - people need to do what’s correct for them
  7. It’s exactly the points - it’s a solution for the circumstances - if your amp goes down, and you have DI to PA - job done. If your amp goes down and amp to cab easily your only means of amplification, no PA - then what? Re-thinking playing is exactly right as well - some songs I do ‘normal’ tuning some in a drop tuning-one bass I was using didn’t have the drop tuner so incase I forgot to tune between songs I practiced playing the songs in both tunings - and predictably I forgot to tune, but muddled through. Professionalism in this instance is just about being the best you can be for yours and others enjoyment and being the best prepared for the same reasons.
  8. Unless I intercept it on the way down
  9. I think there are very few builders who would shape a body and neck - pop it together, insert all electronics and hardware - play it, remove all electronics and hardware, shave some off, reload, unload, shave etc. but experience and care about all the processes/materials along the way and checks before final assembly will iron out most faults and give incredibly consistent results. You may get the level of detail you are looking for from a luthier and that’s fine, all I can say is I have seen each and every stage of guitars being made at Sandberg and the care take I don’t think anyone would complain at
  10. Sandberg The body shapes are of course standard to their range as much as possible, but they are hand finished at the end - I don’t think it goes as far as taking their precision shape and making an SG shape - but care at every step is taken
  11. Some manufacturers do take care - i have seen personally. Planks will be cut to get the most out of a tree - nothing wrong it’s that as wastage is terrible, but unless its a deliberate patchwork bass, tone woods will generally be matched to be the same variety of wood and have grain similarities - not always, but ones that care will
  12. Sounds professional to me covering eventualities. Microphones are a funny one - cardioid, super cardioid, on axis, off axis what vocals do best with what - singing/vocals i would always take my own especially nowadays with the old transmission of droplets which i was never keen on ages ago anyway, hence using my own.
  13. Even Boris makes an exception for you on this matter
  14. Don’t rest - keep walking the path to enlightenment
  15. You are correct - it is about mitigating risk in a situation - correct me if i am wrong, but the bands you play have 2 guitarists - 1 acoustic 1 electric, bass, drums, vocals x2 and sometimes you have wind instruments depending on which one of your bands is playing. That is a whole wall of sound which can easily fill in for potential issues - lead guitar breaks a string, the rhythm of the song carries on with the rhythm guitar, lead singist has a coughing fit or something, second/other singer steps in. Go down to a three piece - any one element goes down, the whole bottom falls out the songs. When i was doing hip hop multiple modalities for the backing tracks and there were 3 of us, everyone learnt everyone else’s lines for an instant drop in - its what necessary
  16. Nicely put The old adage: fail to prepare, prepare to fail Or the 6 P’s Proper Preparation Prevents Pi55 Poor Performance
  17. I was at that same Pantera gig, but was further back - think I remember seeing a lad walking out with a cricked neck!
  18. Could be - my 51 pick up bass does not get on with some set ups or the normal settings I would use at all
  19. Tonewood is a name given to describe a group of woods that are commonly used to make musical instruments. The group is vast - it’s almost as arbitrary as hating the term furniture wood if someone used it. Yes every piece of wood will have some tonal properties, but some will display better properties than others - and this will be for a myriad of reasons based on its internal make up, stiffness, water content, shrinkage profile, ease of working, availability, tradition etc. But as a general rule hardwoods for bodies softwoods for sound boards - those terms come by not because of how ‘hard’ they are but because of the grain. Thats about all it is, but there will be a difference species to species, block to block even on the same tree which may or may not be discernible.
  20. Thats heart breaking an i hope it happens to no-one - I’ve designated driven - taken all the stuff back to a safe place and tried to come back out for last orders just to ensure this does not happen
  21. Not for the first time a complete misunderstanding of the intention of mine (or others) posts, or danger of skim reading and coming to a different conclusion. there is no harm in DI’ng into a PA - but if your PA carries vocals only and DI-ing is not an option, therefore a different solution is reasonable. If your only means of projecting the instrument is an amplifier and cab, having a spare amp is not unreasonable. Having more than 1 driver, using public transport, hiring a vehicle, taking a taxi, getting a dep in for sickness and unavailability - these are all things that can and do happen to ensure a gig goes ahead, correct me if i am wrong they are things you have done with your bands? The only thing that muddies the water is assuming that because what you have does ‘X’ or where you play has Y, then everyone must have the same, its not the case in all situations. Example from experience - Church hall gig, ensured there is a PA for the vocals at least to go through, man with the keys will meet at the designated time to unlock and release and show how to work it. As ever tight turnaround right before the event is to start which includes setting the place up for the event - Keys man is a no show due to illness, ring around trying to get keys and busy ourselves with the other stuff, eventually someone comes, PA is not working - Yes i did take a spare PA and yes the drummer had the acoustic and electric kit so we could pick the appropriate one to match the systems, and yes the designated singer was ill leading up to it so i had to make sure i had to learn all the songs to sing in case, and the band learnt extra more suited to my voice just in case - it was a charity dinner/event and we were the only music/entertainment - it had to happen. Doing your utmost to ensure it goes ahead and to give the best show possible is not nonsense - unavoidable things can of course happen.
