I’ll add about the tonestyler, if you go for a bass ten, some of the extreme end of roll off would be very dark with the natural darkness of a SS bass

Black label gives a nod to vintage, but is very much more modern and punchy sounding inherently - within the Sandberg range, broadly speaking, Sandberg non black label are more vintage sounding, Delano’s more HiFi and Haüssel in between but also very high output. I am a Sandberg fan boy, but for me their split coil (not black label) seems to be the weakest pick up in the range. The pick up is standard size so the world is your oyster. Does yours have active electronics? No matter as you can still make it passive either removing the pre-amp or just bypassing it. For my Money Creamery 58 P is probably the best split coil I have ever heard/played EMG GZR is good Aguilar is fantastic Lindy Fralins Ulyate Tic Tac as a left field choice Seymour Duncan APB-1 is another left field, it has some good grind. All of those esp the first 4 will give you a fantastic classic P. Creamery also do a 60’s and 70s so it depends what you like. Pop in a Stellartone Tonestyler and you have all territory covered

Some woods are better tonewoods than others Good wood is good wood no matter the make Bad wood is bad wood no matter the make Construction should marry it all together if done right

Agreed Audere are very good
-
Something beautiful about a straight up P - no messing about
-
But if you were to use the neck pick up alone - guess what - its a split coil humbucker. The M pickup is a double split coil humbucker. and absolutely, dependent on which pick up, a J style/arranged pick up can sound very very close to a P, position aside even in its normal configuration. If you look at a Sandberg Umbo than that is arguably arranged like a standard P

Thanks for clearing up Obra, I am so glad you kept the Sandberg after what we talked about, it really is looking and sounding brilliant - hope you are well

He is super cool and his Sig bass is awesome

https://www.gatorcases.com/spec-sheet/?model=7204 5kg in weight for the rack bag, but you pull it - fits my 2U amp and a Kong Pitchblack tuner and space for other gubbins in there and the pocket - its no different to size and weight to your carry on hand luggage allowance on flights (when we could.....) easy peasy
-
For sure - used smaller heads for sure as well, but depending on the size and size of gig bag pockets, there are diminishing returns if it needs a separate bag/case to carry - if it’s something like a Tecamp Puma that really slips into a gig bag pocket its a difference to going on pubic transport with less stuff
-
Agree - the back of the rack stores plugs, cables etc. For my Gator the top pocket carries the foot switch, spare speakon, spare instrument/connecting/XLR cable - racked tuner - its all you need in an easy transportable thing
-
I would imagine lower than a B would be mushy G’s - but if you are going to play Songs like Black the sky and Shoes or even just Drop D songs a bit lower Drop B is wicked
-
Not quite game over, not all rack cases are gargantuan things. Gator wheelie rack case is light and sturdy and very easy to transport as you just pull it along. Bass on back, cab one hand, wheel in amp on the other - no more or less hassle with a one load walk
-
Drop tuning is a cool way to go - the intervals are not confusing and if you really want just do it without the D tuner and leave it in that tuning. if Drop D - your original open E is fretted on the second fret, if doing octaves on the lowermost (E but now D) string then instead of spanning 2 frets it’s the same as the one you are fretting - so low and high E you fret both D strings on the second fret. The real fun is Drop C or Drop B

Which winding is it, over 5%, over 10% or under. I have the Seymour Duncan hot stack 51 custom shop - it’s upper super hot - it needs its own EQ to everything else, responds to flats and not rounds so much better and really likes fingers as opposed to a pick. It will be very bassy, but stick with it to find your sweet spot
-
It’s a great video and great playing - but it’s not really there I don’t think to compare basses - it’s more showing off tones - it’s a Precision vs a Jazz bass - they sound different in their inherent naked form - you can tell where each one would work best and what with 🤘🏾💪🏾

Another nod for Doug Wimbish, and there is also that gentleman who straps his bass like a violin almost - his name escapes me - phenomenal player
